Seems the best thing is to share memories- perhaps the things that stood out or just random thoughts about Kyle. I recall working at a hospital in Bethlehem with Kyle and our friend John S. In 1999. There was plenty of horseplay, messing around. Joe M seemed to have the notion that sudsing the floor with cleaner and using food trays to run, jump, and slide across the concrete, tile, was a good idea. Good times. I even recall Kyle boasting he could lift me. No sooner than I called bs, he grabbed me and tossed me above his shoulders, using my crotch for leverage. I didn't second guess Kyle again. Another funny thought: I distinctly remember discussing children's names with him too. He said if he ever had a son, he'd name him Gus- we all busted up. Funny is I ended up naming my cat Gus. .
Good guy from the little I knew him, definitely missed and definitely, definitely not forgotten.

See you soon, Kyle
life is but a vapor and then we shall have ten thousand years and more to sing His praise

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Grimes Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to troops in Afghanistan this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Kyle J. Grimes US Marine Corporal. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

In Memory of Kyle ~ (Debra Estep)

January 27, 2009

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Kyle, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

In a little more than a week it will be 4 years. I look back on it and it seems like both ages ago and yesterday.
I know, like you, I do not go a day without thinking not only of my son but of all those that died that day.
I also think about those that did not that day and the feelings that they may have for surviving and going on with their lives.
I’m sorry that I have never written before. I guess it was not my time to do so.
Out of all that died that day I only knew Mike, but they were all brothers and because of that, they were all, my son’s.
The tears that I shed for him I shed for all.

I was there with Kyle in Iraq. Seems we had a long history and didnt even know it. I am older than Kyle and so i was in the Marine Corps first. When he joined i was stationed in NC. His family would ask my mom if i seen him or if we knew each other. It was kind of funny because we were both in NC but then he went to Hawaii and shortly after I too got stationed there. Still had no idea who he was. Sitting in a hot tent in Kuwait we all introduced ourselves and where we are from. i was shocked when i heard "Kyle Grimes, Bethlehem Pennsylvania." I went up to him after we were let out and introduced myself. We stayed in touch as much as we could. I visited his company frequently and i made a point to see the young Marine and keep his head in the game as this was my 2nd time there. Then one very cold night in January I was on a convoy to al asad. as i was driving and freezing Kyle was aboard a helocopter. When i reached al asad the guys at the gate told us what happened. it was C Co. My heart dropped. I was trying to find answers. Was he on that flight? no names were released. It took 2-3 days before i got a yes or no answer. Sadly he was.

I spoke to his fellow Marines who knew him better than I did and they all had great stories of how he would do funny things. He took care of his guys and was a good Marine.

I want his family to know that he loved you very much. the last time i saw him was about a week before the crash. He was excited to be coming home and see you all again. I am so sorry that you never got to see him again.

Kyle,
Happy 25th Birthday in Heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

A loved one lives forever in the hearts of those who cared.
A loved one lives forever in the memories that were shared.

August 6, 2007

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

February 15, 2007

I am a friend of Kyle's Aunt Kathy, my name is Carmen. I, myself am an 8 year veteran of the United States Marine Corps. I was only 17 when I entered the Corps in 1978 and left in 1986. I have never had to go to war or feel the pain of a lost one. My father is a 32 veteran of the United States Army and a three time Vietnam War Veteran who thankfully never lost his life.
Kathleen is my best friend and I feel her pain every time she looks at this sight. Every person who takes the time to care and stop to remember these brave young people have added more light to their halos.
The young people of this country who give their life for freedom, the flag and the defense of the people at home are special special people, whether at war or at peace. The values instilled by the military at boot camp and the love of those at home are what help each and every one of us to overcome the tragedy that war brings.
God bless every person who reads this guest book, signs their name and takes the time to care.
The Marine Corps Motto "Semper Fi" - 'Always Faithful' - holds true to all who read this and all who cherish the memory of Kyle.
Best wishes to all who see this or have lost a loved one. Their memory is forever engraved in our hearts and the red, white and blue flag that made them want to be the heroes that they are.
I love you Kathleen and I thank god for the family that gave you to me as a friend and the nephew that gave his life for us all.

It is the beginning of Memorial Day weekend 2006. It has been almost a year and a half since Kyle left us and I can honestly say that my tears are just as painful today as the day I learned of his death. Today, I still grieve and my heart is heavy with his loss; however, I can tell you that his memory gives me hope. His fidelity and bravery are the essence of our freedom. I am proud to say, that my nephew was a great Marine and he was not afraid to die. His only concern was for us and how we would feel if anything happen to him.

It is ironic that Kyle's picture in this guest book depicts him with such a stern face. We that know him well can only remember his beautiful smile and his cheerful ways. God bless you, Lance Cpl. Kyle J. Grimes and all of the United States Marine Corp. God bless all the men and women of this great country that have made the ultimate sacrifice, and on this Memorial Day 2006 we salute you.

My heart goes out to Marybeth and Steve, Rachael, the whole Grimes family, all of the Hazler Family, especially my daughters who loved Kyle so much, Phyllis, his friends and everyone from Bethlehem that knew and loved Kyle; and, a special note of thanks to eveyone in this guest book who have taken the time to remember Kyle.

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

Last June I was traveling to N.J. for family graduation. Next to me sat a very handsome young man. We talked off and on through the flight from Baton Rouge to PA. He told me his family was from PA and was going back with his family (sitting across the aisle)to visit relatives there. Thinking he was in college, I asked if he played football. He laughed and said he was a Marine stationed in Hawaii. I don't know why, but I reached over and kissed his cheek and said, "Thank you". He blushed, his family saw it and was laughing. It did not seem like we talked that much, but maybe just enough. I heard someone call him Kyle, and I said, "That is my middle name." What I remember is his demeaner, what he said about his future in law enforcement, wanting to start school soon, and finding his special someone. I travel a lot. I meet people all the time. Some I do not remember at all. And some touch you in a way that just stays with you. This young Marine stationed in Hawaii, family in Baton Rouge and PA, named Kyle will stay with me forever.

I hurt for everyone who has lost some one during this time. They are not forgotten. They have all touched someone forever.

It has taken me a long time to put my thoughts into words, and honestly I still am not sure if I can. How does one sum up in a couple sentences such a tremendous loss not only to the nation but to the people that have lost someone so important? I don't think that I can, but I can be supportive and pray. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

We offer our support, prayers, love and appreciation to you on the loss of your precious loved one, Kyle. Our son David is a United States Marine who was seriously injured last year. Dave's grandfather (Mike's dad) is a Marine (we lost him in 2002 to cancer). The crew chief on the downed chopper was our son David's bunk mate in the Medical Rehabilitation Platoon at Camp Geiger at Lejeune for a few weeks last year. David was devastated by the loss of even one Marine, let alone 31. As Marine Parents we will always keep you in our thoughts and prayers and we will never forget your son Kyle's courageous service and unselfish sacrifice for our Country and for Freedom. No Marine will ever be forgotten by our family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Kyle. I did not know him personally, however I feel as if I lost part my extended family. My daughter's fiancee, Lcpl. We lost so much on January 26, 2005 and I know that the emptiness will be with us for a long time to come. However please take comfort in knowing that your family is in our prayers everyday. Our loved ones are heros and I personally find solice in knowing that they are in a better place. May God bless your family and may you find peace in knowing that someday you will be reunited with Kyle.

Bobby I am so so sorry about Kyle. I had been emailing him in Iraq since about Oct. I'm so very glad I was able to have contact with him. I am truly sorry I could not be there for you. I cannot imagine the pain you are going through but be sure that Kyle is one of Gods' Angels now. He is still watching over all of us just like he was doing what he felt was right in Iraq.Remember that just because I am not there doesn't mean that I am not thinking about you each and every day. To Mary...I didn't know you very well but please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and that as a mother myself I can't imagine your grief. You are in my thoughts and prayers always.

You know, the last thing you expect to hear when you are away from home at college is that one of your friends from highschool has passed away. My sincere condolences go out to Kyle's immediate family and loved ones. I can't begin to imagine the grief and sadness you must be going through. Just being sorry for you simply can't justify my feelings. I know Kyle was a heck of a soldier and he died protecting all of us, including myself-not to mention the country as a whole. From the time I first met Kyle I knew he was all about being a Marine and I thus know he died doing what he was trully passionate about. We had a few good times and memories to share from the Memorial Pool Swim Team to lifting together after highschool. I know Kyle is in a great place now that he has returned home and has been laid to rest. May he soar with eagles and fly with angels. Rest In Peace Kyle, we all miss you.

I have never met you or your son, but as a mother of a Marine who served in the Persian Gulf during Desert Storm I felt the need to attend your sons funeral services to show my respect and to honor him. When your husband spoke of the book in which Kyle wrote he wanted to be a Marine it brought a smile to my face only because my son, Keith, had done the same thing when he was in school. He also had written to me from bootcamp at Parris Island how going to church had made him feel better and closer to God. I can not even attempt to say I know how you feel, but I can say my heart goes out to you and your family. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. God bless you, your family and Kyle.

Sincerely,

Robert Doll

To Kyle's family,

First, my deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to all of you. It has taken days to try and find the words to express my grief over your loss...from the knock at the front door, your lives are forever changed. Life stops, and the world around you continues. When you are a family who experiences an intimate relationship with war, and the ultimate sacrifice is a son, brother, cousin, a part of yourself goes with them. The grief so personal, sorrow so heavy...their is no life lesson learned to prepare you for such a tragic loss. I didn't know your son personally but, Sept. 1969 I was on the receiving end of that knock...my brother age 22 was killed in action in Vietnam...his military picture adorned on the front page of the local newspapers...an athlete, a 1964 grad. of LHS...buried at Holy Savior...Your Kyle is in heaven now, eternally with our Lord...I hope your faith in God and the love shown from this city, state, and nation give you strength during this time. Be proud of him. I know he loved you all very much and nothing will ever take that away. Peace be with you always.
