Thinking about Rob a lot lately. Holidays are almost here. This year we add Eli's first birthday on 12/24. The season isn't easy with him gone, but his not being here for his grandson's first birthday is another point in time with a feeling of emptiness.

So many years have passed and I still think of you Robby. I miss you and you will always be in my heart and in my thoughts.

It will have been 14 years Friday since Rob died in Iraq. Much has changed. Dylan was only 6 then; he is 20 now and on his own. What hasn't changed is how much I miss my son. Things often happen that remind me of him. Pleasant memories bring a smile and I remember his smile, but mostly I feel an emptiness without him here in my life. As we begin another year without him I wonder how things would have been different had he made it home and accept that I'll never know.

Some 10-year anniversaries aren't happy events, but this year, during the Super Bowl, I received phone calls from many of your fellow soldiers and from some that you didn't know. They were all very respectful and I felt honored to receive their calls. They helped me through this day while honoring you. I love you son.

I have no words of eloquence … for none will heal nor bring Rob back to us. What I do have is my friendship … my prayers … and the honor of helping keep that flame alight. I salute you for keeping his candle lit – and stand with you, brother. I wish my love had more tangible power or ability. Rob will not be forgotten – nor will your valiant efforts -

When I turned the calendar to February, I saw Rob's name. It has been six years now and it is still painful. Presently, my son is in Afghanistan and grandson in Kuwait. I think about your sacrifice so often and you will always hold a hero's place in my heart until the day I die. I extend my prayers and respect to Rob's family

Many have written; much has been said. What remains is that you are gone. I miss the times we had, the times we looked forward to, even the times we spent apart waiting for your return. Yet still I return to this each year about this time and remember all these things and more...hurting as much as when I first heard that you were gone. They say, "Life goes on." and I suppose it does, but part of me died that day and my life will never be the same without you. I love you, son.

I will always honor Rob in my heart. I thank him for his selfless dedication to our country and his sacrifice. I wish things could have some how turned out differently, but I realize there is a bigger picture and that there is a higher calling laid upon Rob's life. I pray that Rob's parents and family receive supernatural comfort and I pay them my highest respect. Thank you Rob and God bless you all.

The flag is flying in the sky
A daily reminder of who and why
We sit here remembering them today
These heroes that now lie in their grave.
While here on earth, the bravest ones
A soldier, a mother, a daughter, a son
The father's who went far off to war
To ensure our safety and so much more
To keep our children happy and free,
Someone must do this job, you see
So, today remember the soldiers who served,
Because this is one thing they truly deserve.
The loved one's that they have left behind,
The Gold Star mothers, like your and mine
We honor them proudly, every day
Our American Soldier...Proud and Brave
By Shannon Williams-Austill
I want to thank this soldier for their sacrifice.
And, I wish to extend my deepest regards to the loved ones they have left behind. Their service to our nation, has not gone unnoticed. They are our heroes, who paid the ultimate price for us, and that is something that every American needs to be reminded of and remember everyday.
The freedom we all have, we have because of brave young men and women who made a choice to defend and serve.
Today, let me remember your loved one with you.
(I will never forget the loss of this soldier, as he was the one who died right before my brother, Spc. Jeff Henthorn 2-8-05. I am deeply sorry for your loss and understand that somethings are impossible for time to heal. Some wounds just remain the same.)

With the passing of yet another Memorial Day weekend, I'm humbly reminded that our family is not the only Gold Star family in Oklahoma. I've set aside time today to reflect on the past and remember that your family has suffered the loss of their soldier. Thank you for this soldier's service and duty. As he will always be dearly missed because he payed the ultimate sacrifice. He gave his life to protect our country and our freedom.

Showing me the way of the Lord during my darkess days, is the way I will remember you my friend. Roommates in Oklahoma City in 2000, showing then me what a dedicated father should be. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Robbie -
I watched you grow into a young man...was honored to have known the boy, the man, the soldier and the hero - All of them left far too soon. And I hope you know that when I stood at your memorial marker and saluted that I held back the tears in honor of who you became - and that I have not found many that I had the respect for to salute in several years... but yours snapped into place with pride and honor to deliver it to a true hero and soldier. May God bless you and keep you until we meet again.
