Timothy Kiser Obituary

Only one day before he died when his Humvee drove over a bomb planted in the road by Iraqi insurgents, Timothy Kiser was promoted to sergeant in the Army National Guard.

So fresh was the news of the 37-year-old former Fremont resident's promotion that his mother, Jacquie Sue Dunn of Milpitas, didn't even know why it had happened.

But she did know that Kiser was feeling lucky to have narrowly escaped with his life just a few days before the fatal blast, when he drove over a bundle of six explosives but only one detonated, blowing a tire but leaving no one hurt. "He was very nervous."

Last Thursday, as he drove a Humvee near the oil-rich northern city of Kirkuk, another bomb worked as designed, and Kiser was killed.

"I'm proud of him," Dunn said.

Kiser joined the Army Reserves for three years right out of high school, then became a truck driver in the civilian world. He rejoined last year in hopes of getting some training as a medical assistant.

"He thought he was going to go to school for that, and he got his orders to go to Iraq," Dunn said. He arrived there Jan. 2, and took pride in his work, she said.

"He thought he could make a difference. He thought he really was making a difference. He felt sorry for all the children that were running around there begging, with no parents. He was always asking us to send things for things to give them, like candy," Dunn said. He would often use the candy to get information about insurgents' activities.

Timothy Craig Kiser was born in Cincinnati on Feb. 5, 1968. He, his brother, James, and mother moved to the Bay Area in 1969. He grew up in Fremont, and graduated from Irvington High School in 1986. Kiser had been living with his family in the Redding/Mount Shasta area.

When he re-enlisted, he was assigned to the Army National Guard's 340th Forward Support Battalion, 40th Infantry Division, Red Bluff, Calif. He was not assigned to be a medic, as he had hoped, but rather was an explosives engineer.

Kiser is survived by his mother and stepfather, Jacquie and Ronald Dunn, of Milpitas; wife Rhonda Kiser, of Redding; brother James Kiser, of Manteca; sons Austin Kiser and Jordan Kiser, of Mount Shasta; stepson Kyle Thompson and stepdaughter Danyelle Thompson, both of Redding; and half-sister Shannon Huhn of Milford, Ohio; adopted sister, Shawn Dunn, of San Jose, and former wife Jennifer Krock, of Mount Shasta. Memorial services will be at the Allen and Dahl Funeral Chapel, 9100 Deschutes Road, Palo Cedro, but day and time had not been set today. Kiser will be buried at the Cottonwood Cemetery in Cottonwood.

It's been a long while since the night my C-130 crew was called off our mission in the very early morning after the day you were killed in action. It was a very powerful , emotional, and beautiful event to witness. Your family should know your last night in country was a very powerful moment. The entire base turned out to send you home. We, (the crew) helped load your military casket draped with our nation's flag, you sat in the center of our 130. My crew was part of the 773rd airlift squadron.
I wrote my wife a letter after the long mission, 16 hours or so, but I had to share with her this very powerful moment. It was published in the Medina Ohio Gazette newspaper later, some time near Christmas. It was titled
"Final Flight out".
Just know that I will never forget this mission and your name is etched in my memories.

I miss you my son and think of you everyday. You have a wonderful family and both your sons are successful and you have four grandchildren and they are beautiful. Your brother recently lost his wife and is in misery again. He has never gotten over losing his only brother, he loved you so much. Life has gone on without you, but you are never forgotten. You will always be in my heart and soul. Love you son and miss you deeply. MOM

To my Best friend Tim. The time we spent playing with our hotwheels and jumping the fence to play in the creek will live with me forever. Your time here was to short. I wish I had one more moment to say to you that you were one of my best friends growing up. I can't even put into words the grief that your family has gone through. My heart aches for them. I know that you had a great heart, and your kids would be proud to call you DAD and husband to your wife. I will never forget you. Your best friend David Knipp.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Timothy, but I am remembering his service.
He is my hero.

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

On this Veterans Day, I want you and all to know that you are remembered. I thank you again for your service. God Bless you my friend, and blessings & peace to the whole Kiser family.
PTL,

August 15, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I pulled out my class of '86 yearbook the other day after many years and I came across a picture of a homecoming rally and I immediately saw Tim's face. I was saddened to see him and know he will not be joining us on our 20th reunion. Almost two years have passed since his death and I still find myself thinking of him with every CNN news report of this Iraq war. As the years pass, Tim's corageous sacrifice will shine ever brighter. May you rest in peace my friend and always know that the friends of your youth will never forget you.

My deepest sympathies to all of Tim's family and friends. I just found out about his death almost two years after it happened and was extremely shocked and saddened to hear. Tim was an amazing person. He was always light hearted and loving. He was quick with a smile or a sweet word to brighten your day and always willing to help in any way possible. I feel very privliged to have known him and very greatful for the time I had to spend with him. I cherish every letter he wrote to me while he was in boot camp and would be willing to share memories and photos with his loved ones. His loss leaves an enormous hole in the world today. Thank you Tim for your loving sacrifice. I have missed you and will continue to do so.

That is what I heard at Tim's memorial service. And Tim payed the highest price in order to make a difference in our world. And for that, I thank you Tim. I played ball with Tim when we were 13,14, and 15 years old in Fremont American Little League, and I went to Irvington High School with him too. First.... Thank you Tim! Thank you for your service to help defend our freedom. And thank you for willing to make the ultimate sacrifice in order for others including myself to continue living in such freedom . To the family, I am very sorry for your loss. I went to Irvington High School with Tim. He was a person that you could look at and admire for his wit, attitude and friendly personality. He always had a certain energy about him that made him approachable and generally nice to be around. My best wishes go out to all that are affected by this loss.
