Not sure what to say?

June 24, 2013

Sorry I am a little late in entering this commemorating the 8th anniversary of his passing. Although it has been several years since he has been gone, I wanted everyone to know I still remain in gratitude for the ultimate sacrifice he was willing to make.

I remember this day, and I remember Nick Idalski
On this day I remember all the stories we never got to share. How we planned to have a beer at the Legion and talk about stuff. I never knew I would miss that until i missed you. Your death will live in infamy and will forever be honored in my heart. On this day, though it hurts, I cannot stop that day in 2005 from returning to me. The sergeant at the door, your mom standing at the top of the stairs with a smile on her face, then the news why he was there. The pain and sorrow that followed brought an already close family closer. a town who did not know you, only of you, came out in the thousands to pay honor to a fallen hero. As we brought you home, every town we passed through was there to honor you. Every fire department came out with their hook and ladder trucks positioned like cross swords, honoring you Nick. police met us at every new town, taking over for the one we just left. Even strangers driving down the road, not knowing you, but knowing why, stopped their autos, got out and honored you. So Nick, my son I miss you, and this old Marine wants to say thank you. Like many others, I gave some. But like only the few, you gave all. I will see you again.

So Nick. Its been a little over 4 years. Me and Reg talk about you all the time, about the good times we had, the times we spent at your house just sitting around and still having a good time just laughing at each other. I still can't believe you are gone. I see your picture everywhere in town and it makes me want to hug you every time I see those posters. I can't begin to tell you how much we miss you. Thank you for defending our freedom, and we will see you soon.

To the family of Nick Idalski-
My family and I attended the Memorial day ceremony at Crown Point yesterday. We then went to the eternal flame at which time we observed several people sitting on the bench with shirts with a memorial to Nick. We did not know Nick, but I served in the Marine Corps Infantry during the first gulf war. So, in a way, I feal a connection with Nick who apparently was also in the infantry. We did not want to disturb the family's time at the eternal flame. But did want to relay our sympathy for your loss.I know his loss will always effect his family and friends the most. But he will also be missed by friends (both military and civilian) who never had the pleasure of meeting him. Nick and his family will be in our thoughts.

Happy Turkey Day!!! Always thinking of you.

October 13, 2008

You are always in my thoughts and prayers. Please let no one forget the sacrifice that was made by such a young soldier. Your time came too early but what you have accomplished in such a short lifetime and the people that you have touched would take most an eternity to come close to doing. Thank you for everything you had done.

To the mom of Nick Idalski-
I was up all night this night and I was trying to find my oldest brother's obituary from 1995. So I grew up in Crown Point and I got on the Post-Tribune web site. Well, I did not find it because it was so old (1995), but I did come across your son's guest book. I was compelled reading all the entries, and finally had to just wait till later to finish all the entries. He sounded like a wonderful man, a hero like they say, and I salute him and thank him for my freedom. I am very sorry for your families loss. You see, I know about being a mother who has lost a child. My 31-year-old son, John Jay Harrold was murdered on June 18, 2007. Someone he knew shot him after an altercation. John was leaving and the kid (20) shot him in the street. Maybe you can get on his guest book and read about him. We live in Knoxvile, TN and it is Weaver Funeral Home. He has 4 children. No wife though. I can't tell you how much I miss him. He is in a better place though, and we will be together again. God Bless your family, God Bless Nick.

To the Idalski family,

I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Nicks' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.

...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

May God hold Nicholas in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Nicholas, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

A Prayer For A Special Soldier

He was a perfect son,

His parents couldn't ask for more.

He was the perfect brother,

That never stopped caring.

He was a great friend,

The one to always catch you when you fall.

He was the greatest boyfriend,

The one that knows how to treat a girl right.

So when it came time to become a perfect soldier,

He had more love for his country than most.

When it came time for him to go,

He became the perfect soldier to protect god.

Now he joins all fallen angels,

But also became more of a man than he ever was.

I am grateful for knowing this once in a lifetime soldier,

Because he gave his life for the country he loved.

My prayer is a wish that has wings,

It flies to the heaven above,

Asking god to love this wonderful man as one of his own,

But also let him live as the unforgotten soldier.

Nick, thank you for the memories, we will never forget you, but also we will always love you.

I graduated in the same class as Nick, and with almost 500 people in our class, we never met. We didn't have any of the same classes. But I remember him. I remember passing him in the hallway, and seeing him at lunch, and at some of the school dances. I remember he had a gentle smile. Only people with great love and strength smile that way. I just wanted to share that memory, the memory of a gentle smile that still lingers in the mind of a fellow classmate passing by in the dim hallway. I'm sorry for your loss. What little I have to remember him by, I will remember forever.

To the family of Nicholas.Words cannot express the pain and lost you must be feeling. I pray that you do find comfort in knowing your son was a brave soul who gave his life in a noble way. I know that doesn't help much but know that he want be forgotten and his memory will live on in the hearts and minds of us fellow americans. Just know I am thankful for him and I know he was a special person as it takes a special person to go put there lives out on the line for us all.

To the Family of Nick Idalski, Words can't express how sorry I am. I know how you feel because my son was with Nick in Ramadi and was killed the same day. His name is Brian Alex Vaughn and he was a medic. He has a great picture of Nick on his website and I would like you to see it. Please contact me. I know that your life is in pieces like your heart that's laying shattered on the ground. Mine is also shattered and broken. Mother's shouldn't have to bury their wonderful, loving sons in the prime of their lives but I know that they were loved and respected and the world is a much brighter place because we were blessed to have them for this short time. Love and prayers to you all.

I would like to express my sympathy to all that loved Nick. I recently lost my fiance, Mike. He was only 24. Sometimes it is so horrible I don't know how I can survive the day without him. I grieve and mourn for him every second, like you will for Nick. I found this poem that helps alittle.

THE LIGHT

A shadow of joy flickered; it is me

I told you I wouldn't leave

My spirit is with you

My memories, my thoughts are imbedded deep in your heart

I still love you

Do not for one moment think that you have been abandoned

I am in the light

In the corner, in the hall, the car,the yard- these are the places I stay with you

My spirit rises every time you pray for me, but my energy comes closer to you

Love does not diminish, it grows stronger

I am the feather that finds you in the yard, the dimmed light that grows brighter in your mind

I place our memories for you to see

We lived in our special way, a way that now has it's focus changed

I still crave your understanding and long for many words of prayer and good fortune for my soul

I am in the light

As you struggle to adjust without me, I watch silently

Sometimes I summon up all the strenght of my new world to make you notice me

Impressed by your grief, I try to impress my love deeper into your consciousness

As you should, I call out to the Heavens for help

You should know that the fountain of youth does exist

My soul is now healthy

Your love sends me new found energy

I am adjusting to this new world

I am with you and I am in the light

Please don't feel bad that you can't see me

I am with you wherever you go

I protect you, just as you protected me so many times

Talk to me and some how I will find a way to answer you

Mother, Father, son or daughter, it makes no difference

Brother, sister lover, husband or wife, it makes no difference

Whatever our connection- friend or even foe- I see you with my new eyes

I am learning to help wherever you are, wherever I am needed

This can be done because I am the light

When you feel despair, reach out to me, I will come

My love for you truly does transcend from heaven to earth

Finish your life with the enthusiam and zest that you had when we were together in the physical sense

You owe this to me, but more importantly you owe it to yourself

Life continues for both of us

I am with you because I love you and I am in the light

My thoughts and prayers are with the Idalski family. My nephew was friends with Nick and is currently stationed at Camp Hovey, Korea and I pray every day for his safe return. Its the men like Nick that make this country what it is today and I thank you. They are the real heroes. May you rest in peace. May God give your family the strength and comfort they need to get through this difficult time. God Bless You all.

TO THE IDALSKI FAMILY,

I HAVE NEVER MET YOU OR YOUR SON, BUT FROM THE PHOTOS I HAVE SEEN AROUND CROWN POINT, HE WAS A VERY HANDSOME MAN. I AM SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS, AND I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING THROUGH. I LOST MY SON TOO. EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE GONE, WE HAVE THE FONDEST OF MEMORIES TO KEEP US GOING. REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES YOU HAD, AND HIS LAUGH AND SMILE. AND ALWAYS BE PROUD OF HIM. HE IS AND ALWAYS WILL BE A HERO TO ME. I JUST WISH I HAD THE CHANCE TO MET HIM AND SHAKE HIS HAND FOR ALL THAT HE DID FOR OUR COUNTRY.
