As the anniversary of SSG Allers death nears I am once again grateful to have called him a friend and a brother. We both enlisted within months of each other, both of us went through training at Ft Knox although he became an Army Scout and I became an Army Tanker (years later I too became a scout.) We were in the same battalion at Ft Hood TX together and that's where we met. We always busted each other's chops but we were always friends. We were both stationed at Ft Knox at the same time and he laughed his butt off when I told him I was becoming a Scout because of the crap I gave him for being one. We lost track of each other after I left KY for an assignment to WA state and years later by blind luck we ran across each other in Kuwait while going on mid your leave at the same time. I was happy to be able to fly to and from the states together and back to Kuwait. After we got back to Kuwait we wished each other good luck and told each to be safe out there. I wish that I could have spent more time with him and had a few more drinks with him. I miss my friend. Until we meet again in Vahalla my friend!

Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of William A. Allers US Army Staff Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

While in DC for a conference, I went to Arlington National Cemetary today to visit SSG Allers. It's hard to believe that Monday will be five years since we lost you in Iraq. It was a pleasure to serve with you there, my only regret is that it was too short. I know that myself and our other fellow 617th MP Co. members will never forget you. Praying for your family, as I know this is a hard time of year for them. RIP Allers.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know William, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I was just browsing the net and found this website quite by accident. One of the entries that caught my eye was from Michael Allers who commented that the Allers family was a small one. I married into the Allers family in 1994, in South Africa, so even though I did not know Staff Sgt. William A. Allers, I somehow feel a sadness for his family at their loss.

Dear Ms. Cindy Joy,

I such, and I'm sure my family does too, appreciate and really do feel your special words of love and concern. We especially thank you for reaching out and proving your love for not only my brother, but for your love of our wonderful United States Of America. May God bless you and yours forever. However......just to let you know, it was not my brother Dave that died......not Dave. Our brother Billy died. I can promise you that Dave is alive and well because I dreamt of him so colorfully, in such life-like vision just last night. I feel certain that when read Billy's tribute, you simply mixed my brothers up. Neverthess, thank you so very much for your recognition of our brother Billy and for your loving support. I still cry everyday for Billy. I cry for my other brothers too. I miss all of them so much. "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strenghten thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." Isaiah 41:10

And we all miss and cry in our own way for my brother. Billy's family thanks you so very kindly.

I'm sorry that I did not have the privilege of knowing your brave son/husband, Dave. I know that Dave must have loved his country and lived his life to the fullest.
I want to thank you for raising such a self-sacrificing young man. Dave will not be forgotten. A true hero is one who makes a sacrifice for others. Dave will always be my Hero.
There are times when words are not enough so may God's eternal promises and everlasting love surround you.
I am with thee . . . I will strengthen thee.

With my deepest regets, that you are no longer with us.It has taken me almost a year to realize that my Brother,is no longer here with us.Billy since you left for the Army, to fulfill your dreams,we fell out of touch. The last time that I had saw you was at Mom's funeral.I find peace in that you had fulfilled your dream, even in the short years that you were with us.My memories of you are many as of one of my little brothers. You were also a handful for Mom and Dad,such as your BIG WHEEL DAYS, and then the days with the plastic bat.But nothing made me prouder of you, when you asked me to be Greg's Godfather.I want you to know that you will always be a Hero in our Hearts.Your Loving Brother Tom.Sorry it took so long.

The Allers Family is a relatively small one, however, throughout our nation's history, members of our family have distinguished themselves in defense of freedom. I was aware of William's passing because of my research into which members of the Allers Family were involved in the current Iraq Conflict. Despite that fact that I have never met him, I will pray that he is remembered with the honor and respect due a hero of his standing. I thank the members of his family and his friends for providing this forum. God Bless William, and God Bless America.

My daughter Sgt. Kimberly Bandstra Pitts served with William Allers with the 617th in Iraq. To honor both Hayes and Allers, I wear a number pinned to my blouse every day with the number of heroes who have given their lives in service to our country. Today that is 2,418. Please take comfort from knowing that your loved one did not die in vain or forgotten by the American people. I remind everyone of our heroes and the true meaning of the word hero. Those that are not affected by the war or who have someone in their family over there, are brought up short by the number on my blouse. This I do to honor both of our 617th soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Please accept our condolences and know we pray for both daily.

To the Family of Staff Sgt. William A. Allers:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young man who gave his life so selflessly. We lost our son 12/1/05.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. They will never be forgotten, never able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your memories will sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. I have tried to sign all the guest books of soldiers lost since Brent was killed. Today I received an e:mail from a soldier who served with your son and so I wanted to look his name up and sign his book as well. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away. God Bless this courageous soldier and his family.

The Allers family,

I wanted to say I am so sorry for your loss. I know he is deeply missed. We had just found out about Bill passing away. Although I didn't have the honor to know him, my husband Joe did. They were stationed in Korea together, and Bill is all I heard about. Him and his son. Even though I didn't know him in a physical aspect, I did know a lot about him. I know it hit Joe hard hearing about Bill's passing. I can't imagine what you are going through, especially his wife, children and parents.

I wish you all the best of luck, and wish you didn't have to go through this pain. We will keep you in our prayers, along with many other "brothers and sisters" still away from home.

(It was good to hear that Bill had gotten remarried and had a little girl!)

September 25, 2005

Bill and I were best friends in high school. We meet when our chemistry class first broke up in to groups; we ended up being lab partners because we were the only two left. It was down hill after that and I ended up spending most of my time with Bill for the next two years, even working with him over the summer at a local plant nursery. I did not know it at the time, but he would direct the rest of my life.

He was dating a girl in his junior year; she was a freshman and to me looked quite boyish. As with most high school relationships it ended, but Bill was too charming to be mad at, so he and Lesley stayed good friends. As life moved on Bill and I worked through our senior year and my mom got sick, but no worries Bill was there to help me through anything. You could not keep him down; he had a solution for everything even if it was silly. Also in my senior year he reintroduced me to his ex-girlfriend Lesley, who did not look so boyish to me this time.

After graduation Bill and I went camping in the mountains of Maryland, he told me of his plans of life in the army and all the things he would get to do. I grew up living the Army life and I knew it was not for me, and I did not want Bill to go. He signed up and went away, but he left me with two gifts. He introduced me to my best friend, who got me into teaching, and he brought Lesley and me together, we married in 2003. Without Bill I would not be where I am today and I will be forever in debt to him.

I love you Bill, you will be missed

Even though we have never met, I wanted to share a poem with you.
You see I lost my only son when he was one month away from his 22nd birthday. That was in 1980. I know the pain and the sorrow that you feel.
I know in time the awful hurting inside of you will heal. I know right now it’s hard to Imagine that life can even go on. I can’t imagine anything worse then losing a child.

I am a Christian and I know that God’s strength saw me and my husband through. There were many days we just didn’t want to go on, but He was always there to help us.

I hope you will not take offence by receiving this. I only mean it to help and
let you know that I care. I will keep you in my prayers.

May God bless you in a very special way, as He took a very special person from this world to be with Him. I thank God every day for men like your son who are willing to fight for our freedom and the freedom of oppressed nations. I know William has made a difference in every life he has touched.

Remember, John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should nor perish but have everlasting life.”

At Death of a Child
“I’ll lend you for a little while
A child of mine,” He said.
“For you to love the while he lives
And mourn when he is dead.
It may be six or seven years, or
Twenty two or three,
But will you ’til I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his days be brief,
You’ll have his lovely memories
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I’ve looked this wide world over
In my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lane,
I have selected you.
Now will you give all your love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call
To take him back again?”

I fancy that I heard them say,
“Dear Lord, Thy will be done.
For all the joy this child shall bring,
The risk of grief we’ll run;
We’ll shelter him with tenderness,
We’ll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we’ve known
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
Much sooner then we’ve planned,
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand.”
