Howard Babcock Obituary

HOWARD EDWARD BABCOCK IV, "EDDY", was born May 26, 1972 in Lafayette, LA. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from March 1994, until his untimely death in Bahrain, on October 13, 2005. While serving in the Navy, Eddy received numerous awards, medals, and honors, including the Letter of Commendation. There was not anything Eddy enjoyed more than being out at sea. His spirit was felt by others when they saw him on deck, bouncing as he walked, grinning from ear to ear, and taking full command of his duties. He was in the USN for 11 years and traveled to over 57 countries. He enlisted as an E2, and through hard work and dedication, made IT Petty Officer First Class, and was currently working towards his officer package. Eddy was full of life and spared no amount of love for it. He was always open to new ideas and adventures. He visited amazing places, tried new and unusual foods during travels, and was even daring enough to eat food from foreign street vendors. Eddy was an extraordinary man who was seen through his interactions with his friends, family, and community. A wonderful and talented singer that made you wish you could carry a tune, he even won first place in a singing contest, "La Salle Idol", on his last ship. His heart was golden, his sense of humor was grand, and his outlook on life was always optimistic. Whenever he entered a room, his outgoing personality and cheerfulness captivated others. Eddy was a good Samaritan and his efforts were countless. He volunteered at Memorial City Hospital, was an Eagle Scout, a Bible School teacher, and worked on many community projects mostly involving orphaned children, both locally and abroad. Eddy is preceded in death by his father Howard Edward Babcock III, "Tony", and brother, Worden Babcock. Eddy is survived by his loving wife Crystal, devoted mother Rita Vega Dillon, and his sister Jessy Morgenroth and husband, Shea. His memories will be cherished by all whom he touched. Above all, he was a loving husband, son, brother and a devoted and loyal friend. Eddy was, and will always be, a Sailor's Sailor. A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Advantage Funeral Services, 7010 Chetwood, Houston, TX, 77081. A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main St, October 26, 3:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 875 N. Randolph St, #225, Arlington, VA 22203.

It's almost the 8year anniversary of Eddy's passing, and it still hurts like it was yesterday when I was told about him passing. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about him. Every time I pass his picture, I show my little girl that is her uncle that even though she never met him, he would've loved her. Eddy was a big part of my life, and knew how to keep a big family together. That man was the best family man anyone could ask for. This past March I lost the ring he gave me at the beach, but it was okay because he loved the water as well as I did, so at the end of the day all I could do was smile. Eddy you were the best brother any sister could ever ask for. You could never be replaced. You'll forever be in my heart, I'll always cherish the memories you left me with. Your spirit will continue to live, and fill others with memories that live on. I love you, and always will. You are the perfect guardian angel looking after my family and I. Rest in Paradise Eddy.

I have a pit in my stomach as I read this notice that Eddy has died. We served together in the Navy and we stayed good friends until I left Virginia. Although I left the Navy in 1996, I never forgot my friend and how his big smile lit up the room. We shared in many adventures over seas and made many great memories. Like mountain climbing in Isreal, death defying cab rides in Italy and hanging out in Barcelona Spain during Christmas time. I have been trying to look up Eddy for years since we lost contact and now I see this and realize why I have not been able to find my friend. Fair winds and a following sea Joker. I'll see you on the other side my brother.

To Eddy's family,
In high school he was like a big brother to me. We lost touch when I had to move. We had just started trying to getting back in touch about a month before his death. I did not find out till much latter that he was gone. Everytime I think about the world with out him in it makes me sad.
I am sorry that I never got to meet you, Crystal. Any woman that could handle Eddy is an amazing woman. As an Army Wife, Marine Sister, and a friend to many people in all branches of the military I know the sacrifice you had to make.

Love Ya and Miss Ya Eddy

3 Years ago today I received the saddest news I could ever get. The knock at the door at midnight...the dress military uniform...5 days before you were to come home...Well, you are in God's home now watching over everyone you left behind...Me, Mom & Dad, Samantha, Russ Jr., Brandi, and Misty...

May our hearts heal from the pain and soar with the love you gave so freely...

I love you and miss you.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Howard, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Not more than a week ago I asked my husband, Travis, who was the most positive person he had ever known and it did not even take a second to respond, "That would be Eddy, without a doubt, Eddy." I’ve been keeping Eddy in my thoughts and Travis thought very highly of him. Though I did not meet Eddy, his stories through others’ memories have touched my heart, moved me to tears, and made me laugh harder than anyone has the right to laugh; here's to a guy who has influenced many.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

To All Parents
“I’ll lend you for a little time a child of Mine,” He said.
“For you to love the While he lives and mourn for when he’s dead.
It may be six or seven years, or 22 or three,
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief.
You’ll have his lovely memories as solace and relief.
“I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are some lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I’ve looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to take him back again?”
For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter him with tenderness, we’ll love him while we may
And for the happiness we’ve known forever grateful stay;
But shall the angels call for him much sooner than we’ve planned.
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.”

We were..."Blue Shirts", him and I. We served on the U.S.S. Nassau together. 16 to 18 hour days is what we worked during our first cruise. He was always high spirited though. If I remember correctly, it was because there was this woman that he always talked about, and thinked about, and wrote to all the time. If we had email back then, I'm sure he would have wrote to her every day. I never met her, or maybe I did, but If I remembered correctly, he ended up marrying her. There is one thing that we both had to agree on, and that was, we hated our jobs. He wanted to be a photographer, I wanted to be a jet mechanic. We both took the exam around the same time, and what was funny was, I picked up third as a aircraft mechanic, and he picked up third as an radioman. It was actually pretty funny because I remember that day when he told me he was taking the test for photographers mate, and instead, he sat down and there was an exam booklet for radioman. He took it anyway, and picked up third, first time up. We never spoke much afterwards, because we both went our separate ways when we picked up PO3. He listened to radio chatter, I became a wrench turner. But, we will never forget the fact that we started off as "Blue Shirts."

Eddy is my brother (in-law) whom I love and miss very much. I miss him more than I ever thought I would, but then again, this is Eddy, we’re talking about, he was pretty easy to get attached to. Eddy was always thinking about others, he’d come over to the house to pick me or one of my siblings (or all of us) up and take us wherever just to get us out of the house. He always told us how much he loved being a part of our family and how no matter what came along in life, he’d always be my brother. Eddy will stay in my heart until I get to see him (and Worden & Tony) again. He just beat me to heaven, that’s all. Until I see him again, I’ll continue to love him and keep his memories alive. I miss you, bro.

Eddy was my brother in law.. and i loved him more than i thought... he was always their for me as well the family, he did everything for his family and friends, even if it meant ice skating... my favorite times with Eddy is when he would take my sister brandi and i ice skating, he would always complain how his feet hurt but he went out there anyways.. no stopping him.. he is always going to be in my heart, and i love him very much.. i wear my ring that he got me to show that he is always with me, everywhere i go, he goes, to protect me and to go on journeys with me... i love him and i always will..

I am one of Eddy's sisters in law more of a real sister actually. Eddy has been in my life for 14 yrs. He really did treat my family as his own, if not better. He was such a wonderful, warm soul. He would have you on the floor rollin' laughing for days at his corney jokes. He was such a plesure to be around. Well, sometimes, not in the morning, this man was a morning person like no other. Sometimes he would come over like 10 o'clock in the morning and wake us kids up and say "why are you still asleep? The day is just waiting for you. Don't waste it away." and with that we had to wake up. Eddy was such a great brother to me I really do so much miss and love him so much. One year ago he passed as if it were yesterday, and he is still very much in my heart. God Bless!

Crystal,

Words cannot express how sorry we are for your loss. We take comfort in the fact that we were lucky enough to have been touched by Eddy's friendship in our lives. He was a great friend, singer, and person in general. The last conversation I had with him was about how excited he was to be leaving Italy to go home to you. He loved you so much. We will always cherish all the good times we had and the experiences we shared together overseas. Remembering him will be sad only because we know he isn't with us anymore, but it is those same memories that will still make us laugh because of the good natured and funny person he was and all the crazy things he did and conversations we all had at the dinner table ;o). We love you!
