Dear Eckfield and Taylor families,
I hope you still look on this site occasionally, even though it has been several years since Robert's death. I am sure you are still missing him. I belong to the Prayer Shawl Ministry at my church in Greenhills (Cincinnati), Ohio, and we belong to the national group PS4FS (Prayer Shawls for Fallen Soldiers). We would love to send anyone in the family a prayer shawl in memory of Robert. We do this to show the families that their soldier hero is not forgotten and that we are grateful for their and your ultimate sacrifice. If we can send you one or more prayer shawls, please contact me. We would be honored to do that for you. Thank you and God Bless.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Robert, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I took some photos last Memorial Day Week-end 2007 and have a photo of your Robert’s grave site and marker. If you would like a copy emailed to you, please let me know. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain, so I will not pretend that I know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To Robert's family and friends-
My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.
They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

The Marine, where does it start? I perceive not in the mind, rather in the heart. Love of God, country and fellow man on his facemay not be seen. Yet, in the depth of his being the start is the heart of a Marine. Through endourance, training, trial and skills, testing, pressures overcome through will. Pursuing that which is deep within. His callng from God is how it begins. In his daily tasks he may not project the heart, search deep within & you will know it is the only place it could start. Dare he moved forward with courage instilled from above. The Marine, for God, for country is moved by love.
I wrote this poem for my son Cpl. Bildstein who is a Marine and his fellow brothers when the first went to Iraq in January of this year. I beleive it holds true for every Marine.
I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you are in many prayers. We are so grateful for the men who chose to help keep freedom ringing its bell. We are a country truly blessed. I do not believe my son personally knew Cpl. Eckfield and just maybe they fought side by side one day. Or shared a laugh or two.

My son was stationed with Robert in Saqlawiyah, Iraq and knew Robert very well. As I heard the news – I held my breath – I like your son have not felt comfortable with this whole deployment as you see it is also my son’s 3rd time over there and he just turned 21 in July. To the Family and Friends of Robert,
We may not have known Robert personally, but that doesn't make any difference, one life lost, is one life too many and we want you to know we feel your pain. We are still trying to get our lives back in order after losing our beloved Granddaughter, A1C Elizabeth N. Jacobson, a Security Forces Blue Beret, who lost her life in Iraq, 9-28-05. She is now guarding the gates in Heaven while waiting for Robert. Without our children this Country would not be what it is today. May G-d bless our troops, and hopefully, someday soon, Freedom and Peace will reign, so they all can be brought home safely.
No matter what type of accident or act of war, a loss of a child or friend is very traumatic, I know that words aren't much consolation, but we thank you for allowing him to serve. He will always be a hero in our hearts and will not be forgotten.
Elizabeth's motto was "We're only on Earth for a little while, so live life to the fullest and carry a smile."
