To ms. Doyla lundstrom and family,
My name is heather walker and I just finished reading the book "Final Salute" and was touched deeply by the book. I wasn't sure how to contact ms. Doyla but my husband is Iraq for his second tour right now and I was going through some of the pictures and came across some that were taken on their base that have names handwritten on the wall to honor the fallen. But after
reading the book I recognized your sons name in one of the pictures. Your story has
touched me and this was the
only way I could possibly
contact you to let you know
that if you don't have a picture
of this I would be honored to give it to you. God bless our troops and thank you to you and your family.

I have just watched a power point presentation, that was sent to
me regarding Brett, titled "Wake For An Indian Warrior".
It made my heart ache once again for your Brave Young Marine.
I won't forget your Cpl. Brett L.'Lone Eagle' Lundstrom.
Do not stand by my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints upon the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain and
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am that swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.
May God's Peace be with Brett's family and loved ones.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To the family of Cpl. Lundstrom: I attended your son's wake @ Little Wound School. I cried tears of sorrow for a young man who lost his life so soon. At the time, I had a Marine son in Iraq. He's home with me now, discharged this month of July. Still I have a Marine son-in-law in Iraq and hope to see him come home soon. Every time I see my son now, I remember the others who didn't make it home to us. My prayers include the families who lost loved ones and ask God to grant you the strength to carry on. Keep your son's memory close to your heart and he will continue to live on. May Wakan Tanka bless you and keep you. Thank you.

In time, there will come a day when the tears of sorrow will softly flow into sighs of remembrance. Your heart will begin to heal itself.
Grieving will be interrupted by episodes of joy; and you will hear the whisper of hope.
There will come a day when you will welcome the pangs of remembrance as a sun shower of the soul; a turning of the tide; the promise of peace.
There will come a day when you will risk loving, go on believing,
and treasure the remembering.

Because I miss you
My pain is stretched
Across a broad cold winter
And the core of my heart
Is splintered
Because you’re gone
Because
I miss you
But this love lingers on
And there is no seperation from your memory
No progression from our history
And destiny
Without you
Is chained to a locked chest
Sinking
To the bottom of the sea
The sun now hurts my eyes
Tired of crying in darkness
Because the light is not the same
Without you
It is a phantom sun that shines
Not revealing your shadow
Next to mine
And the wind
Against my skin
Is cold without you
Because I miss you
I am not myself
Because the me
That is me
Is not me without you
And the woman I had hoped to be
Is dead without you
So I become
The phantom sun
And the cold wind and the crying darkness and the locked chest
And I am waiting
For you love, to return to me
Because I miss you.

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I would like to give my deepest sympathies to Cpl Lundstrom’s family and friends and thank his Spirit for being so Brave and Strong during his short journey in this world. Cpl Lundstrom is a true role model of what it means to be Brave, Proud, Dedicated, Native American, and a true Hero. I hope others will see the respect he has earned and strive to equal that respect. My son was (is) a Marine on convoy that day (my Birthday) when I saw the news that day my heart was paralyzed for 3 days afraid that the black government car would pull in my driveway. I can’t imagine the sorrow his family and friends felt when they found out and hope to God that I never do. But I hope they held their heads high when their Hero came home because they definitely have someone to be proud of in Cpl Lundstrom!

A friend of mine just forwarded me the Rocky Mountain News slide show about Brett's homecoming to you all.
I am so moved, I can hardly type right now...but I simply must convey my thoughts to you all.
Of course, as a VietNam-era Army veteran, I'm immensely proud of Brett and the values that led him down the road of Duty-Honor-Country. But I want you to know that I'm also proud of YOU. It was YOU--and your wonderful Lakota community--that gave those values to Brett and made them his life's meaning.
All Americans could stand to learn from your genuine, rock-solid patriotism and courage.
And so, I leave you my deep condolences and my thanks for your wonderful gift to our Nation.
God will bless you, of that I'm certain.
Sincerely,
Bob Frank

Although this loss goes beyond what is bearable for us all and albeit there are no words that can express the extent of our pain, as an immigrant to this Blessed-&-Promised Land (the Sacred Land of your ancestors, and the land that you yourself had been a good steward of and a brave defender of until the point of your ultimate sacrifice), I am most humbly begging the Creator-&-Master of the Universe to grant confidence and trust to all your loved ones [to accept] that your immortal-&-divine soul is now residing in the innermost core of the Eternal God's Constant Loving Heart.
Also, I am pleading with the Almighty that your family, friends, and others who had known you, should be inspired to recognize that you were truly a blessed gift from the Rightful Judge and Compassionate Parent Above. From now on, may all of your loved ones experience peace and the revealed-only blessings, exclusively! May peace come immediately to this Unique Beloved Land upon Earth that you so cherished and loved!
While no words can convey even a fraction of our deepest gratitude to you for defending our Freedom, our freedoms, and our liberties, it is mandatory to thank you for the gift of life that you have bequeathed to us at the inestimable expense of your own young precious life. May the memory of you (our valiant Cpl. Brett Lee Lundstrom!) be a blessing to anyone who ever thinks of you or mentions your name, Amen! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

We are so sorry for your loss. Brett (Wanbli Isnala)earned his place in Heaven when he gave his life for America. His sacrifice will never be forgotten!
My brother and his family lost their son Michael, a fellow Marine, in August of last year while serving in Haditha. We pray for you and all families who have lost loves ones. We also pray for the safe return of the rest of our military who go in harms way. May GOD bless you.

To Mr. and Mrs. Lundstrom,
Our country owes your son and you a debt of gratitude for his service and sacrifice. I hope time will ease the grief and replace it with wonderful memories of your son and give you peace. I know there is a heaven and I know he is residing there with the other heros who have made the ultimate sacrifice. My prayers are with you, his family. Sincere Regards, Grandma (of a young Marine)

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Words will never fully express how deeply sorry I was to hear of your loss and I know they do not seem to bring as much comfort as I wish they could. Just know, if I could, I would take away all the pain and sorrow. Take care and God Bless You.

My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Cpl Lundstrum. There is no greater gift he could have given us than to serve his country. As a Marine, and a Viet Nam veteran I understand the physical sacrifice he made just to become a Marine. My wife's son is in Camp Fallujah with 2/6 Echo Company and was on patrol the same day that Cpl Lundstrum was hit. It is small condolence to consider he served our Nation with distinction, and honored his tribe, and family with his sacrfice. I would like to send a traditional cultural gift in memoriam if his family would be inclined to accept it.

My heart goes out to Brett's entire family. Having lost my favorite Uncle in Vietnam, I know the loss affects the oldest to the youngest of his family. No one is untouched by his death, but may you all honor him in your memories and carry his memory on to the newest members of his family yet to come.

Doyla, Ed and family-
You are all in my thoughts and prayers. I had the honor of having Brett in Government. He made each day special with his energy, zest for learning and spirit. Educators always hope for students who make teaching a pleasure and Brett was certainly that! I remember his stopping by to visit me after boot camp- his pride and feeling of purpose. I respected him as a young adult dealing with High School, and even more so for his character and strength as an adult.
Brett- with his kindness and smile- touched and bettered every life he came in contact with.
While we mourn his loss, he honor him daily by keeping his spirit actively in us.

Ed, Doyla, and Eddy:
It seems like just yesterday that Brett and Eddy were playing with our two boys Jamie and Duncan.
I remember when Ed and I were together as young officers at TBS and when our paths would cross in the FMF. The Corps is like a big family and we talk of you all often. I can tell you that we're thankful for young men like Brett & Eddy.
You all deserve to be very proud of the service the Lundstrom's have rendered to our country.
Bless You.

Doyla and Ed:
Our paths have not crossed since our fun filled days @ U.S.D.
I was shocked to hear you lost your son at such a young age.
As a sister to a brother who served in the Phillipines as a Marine and a proud aunt of nephew currently in Iraq, my prayers go out to you during this difficult time.
I did know your son Brett or have ever had the honor of meeting him, but I do know this, he mustve been a good son, for he had good parents.
My prayers are with you during this difficult time.
