Remembering Doug on this Memorial weekend. I was the 3d ACR Surgeon with Doug in Tal Afar, and a brand new Medical Corps officer on active duty. Doug taught me the Army mustache regulation way back when I didn't even know there was such a thing. Brave Rifles.

As a former ROTC instructor to Doug while he was in college, and now a JROTC instructor to high school students, I tell Doug's story quite often. Doug walked into my ROTC office one day at Cal State Fullerton and told me the reason he wanted to become an Army officer was because he loved his country and he wanted to serve and "give back.” I tell my young cadets that most would walk in my office and ask me about the benefits and what was in it for them. Rarely did I encounter a Doug LaBouff's philosophy of "why I want to join ROTC and the Army.” And so Doug's value of selfless service lives on and is being taught to the new up and coming Doug LaBouffs of tomorrow. How wonderful it is to be able to tell a true-life story that backs up and gives credence to the Army Values that we as JROTC instructors profess to the youth of our society on a daily basis. God bless you Doug and family You are forever in my prayers and thoughts.

Cpt. La Bouff (as I knew him) was my company commander in Korea. I was very shocked and saddened to hear that he passed. I did not know him well, but I thought of him today, and wanted to see if I could find out how his career was going, when I found out about his passing. My condolences to his family.

It was a pleasure to have served with you Cpt. La Bouff, peace be with you.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Douglas, but I am remembering

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I saw Doug In Mosul, Iraq shortly before the tragic accident. Doug was full of spirit and duty as he had always been. We were stationed together in Korea years before and it was so good to see a friendly face again. Doug's passing will never easy to get over, ever. I would only say to his family that his legacy and his dedication to duty will be something we all remember. I for one sleep better knowing that Doug, along with the Angels, will be watching over us all! We will meet again my friend, as we have done, time and time again! God Bless you Doug and may God and His Angels continue to watch over your family.

Doug. Though I only knew you for a few years while I was in high school you always showed a caring heart. The way you showed your commitment to your endeavors and with a great moral resolve was inspiring. I remember you sitting in the front row at St Joseph's mass and professing your faith without fear of judgement. Though it has been a while since your passing, I still think of you. You are now a soldier of God and you are still making an impact hear on earth. My friend, my coach, and a servant of God.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I knew Maj. La Bouff as Cpt. in Korea. He was always helping us to be more conscientious of our surroundings and he always kept us safe. He was one of the most caring and respectful officers I knew. May God watch over your family, Sir. You are missed.

To Doug's family,

I remember the day Doug walked into my office and said he wanted to be an Army Officer. I asked him why, and he said because he loved his country. That was refreshing, as the usual response was for the benefits. Doug was the very best ROTC cadet that I have had the honor of working with. He was a young man who had a deep sense of respect, and loyalty. I always knew that he would make an excellent Army officer, and he did.

My prayers will be forever with you all.

I was very close with Doug and his family back in High School. When my family goes and visits my grandmother and uncle at the cemetery, I always walk over and take Mr. La Bouff a single flower and talk with him about the past, present and the future. It broke my heart yesterday when I went to go visit that I found out about Doug. I am still in disbelief. I and my family have wonderful memories of Doug, I have always kept those memories very close to my heart. My prayers go out to his wife and children. Mrs. La Bouff I love you, I've always loved you and your family. May god bless all of you. My prayers are always with you.

Doug was our youngest cousin (of 24). We are a large family--we show that many types may take the lead position, but Doug had so many attributes to his credit that he could lead us all. We will always miss his take on the current family politics. I've hoped that our family could move together at this point and become a more unified force.

While it has been some time since I had spoken with Doug, news of his passing shook me to the core. At first, I thought it couldn’t be true, then when I confirmed the news with the staff at Bishop Amat the following morning I began to cry uncontrollably. I believe with all of my heart that this speaks to the strength and depth of his character. The four years we spent together at Amat left an indelible mark on my soul. He was a genuine, caring person who will be missed greatly. I know that neither my words nor my prayers can ease the grief of his wife, children, and family, but I hope they come to know just how many lives Doug touched with his humor, friendship, and compassion. We truly appreciate the sacrifice that he and his fellow soldiers made for all of us.

Doug--

What can I say. It was our honour to have you as a friend. Eventhough things did not work out between Jesse and Holly. One good thing came of it, and it was Jacob. So, the Guzman's will always keep you and the LaBouff family close to our hearts. Dave

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

To Mrs.LaBouff and the LaBouff family I'm sorry I cannot be at the funeral at St. Joe's on Saturday but I will offer prayers at Mass at Franciscan University in Steubenville on that day, as well as prayers in front of the Blessed Sacrament. God Bless and Keep You and may the Blessed Mother comfort you in your sorrow.

Douglas, may your courageous example of living your Christian faith to the point of laying down your life for another, continue to inspire others for many years to come. Thank you for your service.

May you rest in peace

Doug was truly a wonderful man. To Karen, kids, and family; you are all in my prayers. Doug was a great inspiration and role model in my life. Our paths crossed 21 years ago when he helped to start Friend to Friend (with my mother and Will Benney), and he was always so encouraging and warm to me even though I was 7 years his junior. I am a better person for having known him, and he will continue to be a true inspiration in my life. I am about to start a new chapter in the work that we started over 20 years ago; and as I do so in Washington DC, it will be in Doug's memory. God Bless.

My heart, thoughts and prayers are with you as I mourn the loss of your family member with you as I also mourn the loss of my own Hero Son. God Bless this courageous man for giving his life so selflessly for all of us. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and once again be able to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that come now.

Rest in Peace Major Douglas A. Labouff.

So saddened for the loss of our cousin. Doug was one of our family leaders; he treated each and every one of us with respect. May it be the legacy we all live up to.

My prayers go out to Doug's family. I went to high school with Doug and I'm proud to say that he was one of my best friends. We had our little group that hung out everyday. He was such a character and a stand-up guy. He will be missed. God Bless.

Psalm 23

If you need anything, please feel free to contact me!!!
