SFC Cornett was my team leader in Fco 51st IN Regt for 2 years. He truly was a great man. He pushed me hard but always looked out for me. I felt safe when training with him. I was very happy to see he had made it into the spec ops community. It was his goal that he worked very hard for. My best wishes for his family. He loved you very much.

Lance was a true hero in the military and in life. I grew up with Lance, he was my brother Vincent Warren's best friend and like a brother to me. He was loyal, humble, honest, and just a genuinely good man. I loved him with all my heart and I still do. I will never forget him. His memory will live on with the impression he left on every one he met. He was such a wonderful person and deserves to never be forgotten.

I am deeply sorry for the loss of this man. I'm 14 years old, and I am doing a project on fallen soldiers in Iraq. My class was supposed to pick someone whose story really spoke to you. I've been reading some of the posts people have left and I immediately chose this man. He sounds like the best a person could be. I am deeply sorry for the loss of him to this world. He seems like he was a fantastic friend, and father. I'm sure he is greatly missed. He also died on my birthday. I hope all of his family and friends can overcome this. My thoughts are with you all.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

We had the honor to meet Lance Cornett in April 1999 in Wilmington, NC, when he was an SSG with F/51st LRSC. He was in charge of the honor guard detail from F/51st LRSC that had been sent from Ft. Bragg for the memorial service for Col. William C. Maus, who was the commander of F/51st LRP in Vietnam, the unit from which F/51st LRSC was descended. We were shooting a documentary about F/51st LRP and were privileged to meet fine young men like Lance Cornett who were following in the footsteps of their forefathers. God bless his family. Our prayers are with them.

Today is July 11th, Happy Birthday Lance.
It was with tremendous sorrow that I heard only two days hence that you have left us. I'm certain that the Arch Angels Michael and Gabriel will be honored to have a warrior like you at their sides.
I was fortunate enough to spend 3 years with you in the Scouts at Fort Drum, NY. I have noticed that Kopti, Yeoman, Johnson, Hazard, and Swaim have already signed your guestbook.
I just wanted to let your family know what a tremendous influence you were on everyone who knew you. Words can not describe the kind of man you were. Caring and compassionate yet strong and steadfast in your convictions. You were a model soldier; a dear friend; and I am certain a wonderful father.
I wonder if you family knows of your years when you were coming into manhood. Did you ever tell them about the 60' cliffs you, I, Brasher, and Molesky dove off in Governor, NY against all common sense and practicality. Or about the time we jumped into extremely dangerous white water rapids of the Adirondacks to save a canoe {and a case of beer strapped to it}. That was some training mission Lt Swaim took us on, wasn't it. Or the trip we made to Oswego College and 20 of us found sleeping arrangments in a VW van and when Mark later blew up the engine on that same Van. Do those close to you know we called you "Net" and your call sign was Daniel Boone, after another brave fellow Kentuckian.
More importantly, does your family know of the young 10 year old Somali boy named Jimmy whom you took under your wing for four months. We saw him every other day and you always had some treat to give him. You didn't have to but you did; that's the kind of man you were. Your compassion probably saved the boys life during that turbulent time.
How about the time that some officers Ford Bronco ran a red light and smashed into your car. You were dazed and bloody but the first thing out of your mouth was telling us to check on the driver of the truck who hit us to make sure he was ok.
Have you ever told anyone when you and Kopti brought out a seriously wounded elderly man near Jihlib. You forced the platoon leader to transport him in the Hummvee and get him medical attention, even though the PL said no and even though it was not your responsibility.
I have many many memories of the time we all spent together Lance, and all the memories are happy ones. I also remember that everyone knew you would give your life to save the least of us. I do not know what happened in your final moments...but I know your character. I am confident that you were either rescuing a fellow soldier or sacrificing yourself so that the others in your unit could escape.
The word hero is overused in todays world of terrorist and victims. You however friend, are the purest definition and meaning of the word HERO.
You are the most selfless and courageous person that I have ever or will ever have the pleasure of knowing. It was a true honor to have known you Net.
God has blessed all of us who have had the pleasure of knowing you.
I hope those close to you know that we all will always and forever appreciate the sacrifice you made. And the sacrifice they made by allowing you to fight for all of us.
May God bless you and your family.

Im not sure if I ever met Lance, but his best friend, Vincent Warren told me about Lance many times long before he gave his life for this country. This alone speaks volumes about this mans character. My heart felt sympathy goes out to the Cornett family and all the loved ones left behind. Once in a lifetime you will meet that special someone, a person that personifies what "right" looks like. Lance was that special someone, a role model of "The Warrior Spirit". It was my pleasure to serve with Lance at Ft. Drum, NY in the Recon Platoon and he always made coming to work a rich and rewarding experience. No words can describe the pain felt when notified of the loss of this great American, it was probably the same pain felt by all. I considered Lance to be a true friend, a true brother. My wife never missed a chance to hang out with the Soldiers from the Platoon to ensure they had a family to share the Holidays with. Lance was there to make us all smile and enjoy the good times, she would always ask if he was coming over because without him we were missing out. Even over the years as the time passed I always remembered him as the one Soldier who was always there for everyone, regardless of the situation. I can honestly say I loved Lance as much as any man can love a family member, because for me he was truly family. I know the world will feel the loss of Lance and it will be a long time before the pain of his loss goes away, but his memory will live forever in the hearts and minds of those who loved him. He was truly a "Guardian of Freedom". I wish nothing but the best for his family and friends.

To the family and friends of Lance:
I had the pleasure of meeting Lance while living at Fort Drum, NY. We are so young at the time. The soldiers of the Scout Platoon worked long hours for little pay and recognition. I enjoyed the opportunity to cook for him as he was always so appreciative.
While serving in Somalia, the soldiers were deprived of the simple things that we take for granted every day. Next time, you get into a hot shower, think of the soldiers that do without so that we can enjoy certain freedoms in our country. Next time you are tempted to complain at a restaurant because the food isn't just right, think of the soldiers who are eating MRE's day after day. Next time you complain when you get into a HOT car in the summer, think of the soldiers that worked through the intense African heat every day to save the lives of the innocent. Thank you Lance. You gave your life to save so many others. We should all be so blessed. God bless you!

Lance,
I can't begin to tell you how much I miss you. Thanks for everything you ever did for me and my family. Thanks for letting me marry Brandy. I promise you I cherish her forever. Things are so different without you here. Life seems so empty. The Army isnt that much fun since you've been gone...but I'm not gonna give up! It seemed like just the other day that we were sitting outside starring up at the stars talking about whether or not we thought there were alians or how the world fit into the universe...I guess you know now. May God Bless you Lance! I don't know if you can look down on earth and see whats happening down here or not but if you can just know I love and miss you. Thanks for being such a good friend. You were the best Father-In-Law in the world. Trust me Logan and Taylor are gonna know all about you. Thanks for giving our family the blessing that America brings. I love you,

My condolences to the family and friends on Lance Cornett. I knew and served with him at Ft. Drum, NY from 1991-1994. We served together in the 3-14 IN Scout Platoon in Somalia from December, 1992 to March, 1993. He was the quintessential infantryman. Honest, brave, dependable, strong, but most importantly compassionate. He was a man who could be counted on in any situation. We shared many experiences together and I always looked to him to set the example; for others and for me personally. I will miss him but will always hold on to his memory. I draw solace from the fact that my life is richer because I knew him. Godspeed.

I had the opportunity to serve with Cornett through basic training and Ft.Drum NY (Scout PLT). We were roommates while stationed there and he was my family. To the family and friends Lance Cornett. Lance was the most honest and humble man I've ever met and was a close friend. The type of Soldier and Man that all try to become but few ever will. Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
