We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Kevin D. Akins US Army Sergeant. The NC Run for the Fallen will honor fallen troops from North Carolina at a Memorial Run on Saturday, May 29th, 8:30am, Ayden Grifton High School track, Hwy 11 S. Ayden NC. Each troop will be honored by a runner/walker who carries a flag in his memory for one mile. Please come join us in honoring our fallen troops.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Kevin was my first friend when I moved to plant city from Pa. We were 14 or 15. One memory that always sticks out is when I spent the night at his house and Kelly made fun of our middle names. So to get back at her we did every thing we could to scare her until the wee hours. Its funny the things you remember. Kevin was a close friend and I am going to miss him. Also I would like to extend my condolences to his family. You were like a brother and I'm going to miss you. Until we meet agin. Good bless.

I knew Kevin only for a couple years of his life, but I saw him experience many things. I watched him live, and laugh, and lead. He was a natural leader and never a follower. Most of all I watched Kevin love. I am so grateful for the time that I did get to know Kevin Akins. My friends and I that worked with him find ourselves sitting around telling stories and laughing at the humerous things he said or did and how much we all loved him. Kevin was a great guy. Everyone that new him knew he would do anything for them. He was a brave soul, and I was lucky to have had him as a friend. He will be missed and dearly loved. I didn't know Kevin, but attended the memorial service for him and his comrades at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan. It was clear from what his friends said that he was an excellent Soldier and more importantly an excellent man. I just want to let everyone know how much your prayers mean to the family. Kevin and my kids Shawn,Shane,Tammy and April are his brothers and sisters they are very close to Kevin. I remember one time when Shane,Kevin and there friend Scott put a roof on my garage.Every time we look at it we have to laugh it's about a foot lower than the house.They were teenagers and it's still like that.It may never get fixed.The last time he was home he came in and gave me a big bear hug.He's always been quit and a good boy.We love him very much and will be missed there are so many thing to remind us of him.He is are Hero and will always be.there are so many young Hero out there..We love you Kevin and will always be in our heart Love Debbie

For he were only Three when Kevin Akins and me came to be together.I just wanted to let everyone know that came to this site. That he was a Hero long before now. At the age of Ten ,young Kevin Akins played Baseball with his two brothers Shawn and Shane Garrison, for the Hillsboro Bank team with myself as there coach.His sisters Tammy,Kelly,April, and Krisey as Cheerleaders,He had always wanted to pitch ,but just didn't have the strength to get the ball to the plate. We practiced and practiced and he worked hard. Then came a day that only 7 team members showed up for a game. our team was going up against the # 1 team in the league(Elks). Pitchers could only pitch for a certain number of innings and the two that showed up were Kevins bothers because we all came together and they had already pitched max innings. We even had one of the players from the other team playing with us.I had told the other couches and umpires to let the boys do what they came for and that was to play ball.we didn't care about the record books.I had told Kevin that this was his big Chance, do us proud. Kevin had a natural Knucle ball, not because he knew how to throw a knucle ball, But because the ball would drop just before getting to the plate. It would go straight and true then drop. Which confused all the opponents at bat. Striking them all out. Thanks to Kevin Akins our team won that game 14-2, I Love You Son, Always, Rod Garrison

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young man who gave his life so selflessly. We lost our son 12/1/05.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. Our heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this horrible situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so sad and heartbroken at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. They will never be able to be replaced, but know they will NEVER be forgotten either - not by us, their commrades or by the thousands of people that sign these guestbooks and care about these fine men and women. Sometime, someday your memories will sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives.
