I graduated with Michael from WOCS. He was one of the friendliest guys I ever met, and I still remember going to Larry's BBQ with him before WOCS started and having a lot of laughs. I had some really fun times with him as we progressed through flight training. He always had a positive attitude and my memory of him will be with a smile on his face. His sacrifice humbles me, and inspires me to continue to serve. He will never be forgotten.

On this day I just wanted to take a moment to remember Lee and the ultimate Patriotic sacrifice he made. Just calling our service personnel "heroes" seems to fall short of what they mean to me and the rest of our country.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

To the Hartwick Family; I only met and knew Mike, Kerri and family a short time while visiting the base in Illisheim, Germany. My son Barry and Mike were stationed there together. We also met the parents who were also visiting at the same time. That short visit impressed upon me what a good person Mike was. Also, my son Barry talked about him being a very accomplished Apache pilot. Barry Bowen and his family were broken hearted when they heard about Mike. You all have our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Kerri and family;

Hard to believe so many years has passed since we graduated and went our separate ways. Mike was always an honest, hard working and dedicated man. I'm sure you're proud of the mission he performed, and knowing Mike I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted to entrust it to another. I wish I had been in town this week so I could tell you in person how sorry I was. My thoughts and prayers are with you, the kids and the rest of the family.

My heart and thoughts are with you in every action I take. Nothing seems worthy to say to you in a time like this, but I want you to know that I feel that you have honored Mike in the greatest way- you have given something of him to all of us in the way that you've received people into your home and heart and listened to their grief and pain even as you suffer through your own. Your courage, your shared faith in God, and the evident depth of your love gives us all the strength to Press On.

Our heartfelt thank you for Mike's service and for allowing Mike to serve our country. Mike's service to our country for our freedom and protection is nothing short of heroic. Mike was a true hero, a great role model and an incredible friend. Mike blessed our family in many ways and we thank God for blessing us with his friendship. Our hearts are filled with wonderful memories of joyful Mike and the times we spent together. He was an awesome man! As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of your family and friends.

To the Family of Chief Warrant Officer 3 Michael L Hartwick:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost our son 12/1/05.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
