Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Gregory S. Rogers US Army Sergeant 1st Class.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

I was trained at Fort Benning by Drill Sgt Rogers along with Sgt Mabry and Sgt Gerrick. They're still staples in my mind and I went there in 1997! I've been in law enforcement since 2001 and owe Sgt Rogers and the others a huge thank you for making me who I am today. Hooah fallen warrior you will never be forgotten.

I am truly sorry for your loss. I was a friend of Greg's back in the 90s in Alaska. We were in the same platoon and used to hang out quite a bit off duty. Some mutual friends just told me about his passing and I am so sorry.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

It's been 2 1/2 years since you've been gone, but not forgotten for even a second. You gave the ultimate sacrifice for what you believed in. You helped bring freedom to the downtrodden, and power to the powerless. You were a kind and wonderful person. You were always one of my favorite cousins, and now you are also my hero. I will miss you SO much....I'm sorry that I wasn't there for your memorial. I wouldn't have missed it for the world, had circumstances been better.
I miss you!

"America, the Beautiful". . . .
the land of the brave, and the free.
But, where and how,
without the courage of our soldiers,
would be peace and liberty,
for me?

They travel, so very far away,
from home, from family,
and they are missed, by one and all,
as we pray fervently.

We lift them up to our Father on High,
to the One Who founded our great land;
And we ask that He send forth mighty angels,
to guard and keep each one,
by the power of His righteous right hand.

This war may not be accepted
by all,
on either side,
But, these, our soldiers, belong to us,
and make our hearts swell with pride.

With all the differences of opinion,
the controversies which seem to grow;
Still yet, in the middle of the battle,
a soldier's heart truly knows.

That they've been called by their country,
to fight for other people,
who do not seem to understand,
that freedom comes not,
without a high price,
for a nation,
whose Hope,
is to live in a blessed land.

So, Father, we commit to You,
this journey, and all the soldiers who fight and war,
for one and all,
and we ask, Father, that You truly bless them,
encourage them,
and bring them back home safely,
standing straight,
and standing tall.

Your Cousin Lora Rogers Wiedenheft

I did not die

Do not stand on my grave and weep
I am not there I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond glints in the snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am a gentle Autumns rain
When you awaken in the morning hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
I am the birds in circled flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
So do not stand on my grave and cry
I am not there.... I did not die

I wish i had got to know you better. We missed a lot growing up.
With Dad gone Im sure there is a Rogers Party going on up there!

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

To the family of Sgt. 1st Class Rodgers, I do not have the words to express the sadness I feel, I can only say that I am very appreciative for the dedicated service and sacrifices that have been made by you and Sergeant 1st Class Gregory Rodgers. It was just todays,Veterans day 11/11/2007, that I learned that Sergeant 1st. Class Rodgers had passed. I was an infantry soldier that served under then Drill Sergeant Gregory Rodgers while he was assigned to the 2/19 Infantry Training Battalion at Ft. Benning Georgia ( Other cadre members were Drill Sergeant Dante Mabry and Drill Sergeant Gerrick). I have a lot of good memories that revolve around a very caring and diciplined Drill Sergeant, Drill Sergeant Gregory Rodgers. He never wavered from making us the best infantry soldiers that he could. I often reflect on the time I spent in training and remember all the lessons i have learned, especially those taught by Drill Sergeant Rodgers. He in many ways has formed me into what I have become today. He took charge of me in a very formative period of my life and helped transform me into a very civic minded selfless individual. I feel the loss of this soldier and friend. Although I was never on a first name basis with him or ever had the chance to work with him after training, I have and will always value what he has given me as priceless, and although I never had a chance to thank him, Today, all I can do is wish that I could have. I have and will always consider him a life long friend.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain, so I will not pretend that I know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Rest in peace Warrior, Friend, Brother. You were the best friend I had at Camp Corregidor. The first Currahee I met when you moved into our barracks. You really cared about people, all people. You were there for me whenever I needed an ear as I hope I was for you. The long conversations we had in the barracks helped keep me grounded, when most people didn't have time, didn't understand, or didn't care...you did. Even "old" warhorses like us need someone to listen sometimes. When I returned from my mission that night I hoped you would get back from yours earily enough so we could go to breakfast. When your guys came back and told me we stood by the barracks in a huddle and cryed. I'm not sure if it was for you or ourselves. I guess both. We miss you, but we know your reunited with your wife and that gives us comfort. I know how much you missed her. My prayers go out for your family. Greg,I still talk to you every day, I hope you're still listening.

I have waited for days trying to determine the best thing to say or the correct way to phrase my thoughts. The English language seems to be failing me still. I cannot convey to you my sadness at the loss of Greg, or thankfulness for his efforts for our country and way of life. I hope that, in time, the pride you have for him will far out weigh your pain of this tragic loss.

The outpouring of support from Deer Park and the surrounding communities should be viewed for what it was - respect and admiration for not just a fallen soldier but for a strong and loving man. My best to you all.

As we sat so far away we will always remember SFC. Greg S. Rogers. He is our HERO over here. He talked to us every time he could on the computer. Penny mailed Chips and candy to him every two weeks. When I got the news I lost it and so did Penny. It hit us like a truck going 100 MPH. Words will never bring him back, I know he is with God and all of our HERO up there and he looking down on us every day. I could tell you war story that he told me, But I'm waiting my day to come to join him. That way we can enjoy them together again. God know we love him alot and we know that he is taking care of him like the rest of our HERO.

When a soldier is lost

And tears seep from his mother’s eyes

Nothing can bring him back

Nothing can soften her cries

As they tell her he’s gone

No words ring louder or more true

Than we’re sorry for your loss

And we’re here to help you through

They fight for our country

While we lay asleep

They sleep with eyes open

Watching terrorists creep

They wake up every morning

Always ready to do what’s right

While we take forgranted

Peaceful sleeping at night

And all that they ask

Is that they get some respect

For someone to care

That they stick out their necks

They risk dying daily

To let us be free

I have a true hero

And he died for me

His name is Gregory Rogers

He was killed in Iraq

And even knowing the risks

Three times he went back

He didn’t care about terrorists

He didnt care about wealth

He is an American Soldier

He fought with bravery and stealth

He’s fought in the wars

He’s seen death first hand

He’s an American hero

He is a real man

But he is also a father

Two girls call him dad

And they are left remembering

The hero they had

For our hero is gone

But not beaten for he won

He joined God that day

And God took his gun

He said don’t you worry my child

For you’ve won the fight

I too am fighting in this battle on your side

So sleep peacefully tonight

There are no words to express the loss of the ones we love and treasure, but may some comfort comes in the form of the reminder of sincere friendships, the out pour of caring people, and a silent prayer, may all the memories of Greg keep a warm smile in your heart. I send you my heart-felt messase of sympathy and a tiny reminder that I too feel this loss. In memory of our fallen hero, SFC Greg Rogers, my cousin. Greg served for something he believed in, and in the end made the ultimate sacrifice. Though he may be gone, his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those he touched. It's so amazing to see how many people, though he was a total stranger to them, care about him as a soldier, as someone who everyday risks his life for all of us and for all of the men he works with. Greg was not only an excellent soldier, but an excellent person. We'll never forget our hero.

Love and much thanks,

To Donna and Curt and the rest of Greg's loving family;

My heart goes out to you during this difficult time as I try in some feeble fashion to express my appreciation for the sacrifice Greg made on behalf of his family, friends and the country he so loved. Saturday morning (April 22), he was remembered on our Tampa stations for donation of an insulin pump to a young diabetic child. What a hero in more ways than one. Greg Rogers, your son, your father, your brother, your nephew, your cousin, your friend is America's Hero.

SFC Rogers was one of the greatest soldiers it has ever been my privlege to serve with. It was my pleasure to serve with him at 4th BCT at Ft. Campbell, and to see his face on T.V. tears my heart in two. There is no NCO that I would rather have worked under, and I can give no higher praise. My condolances go out to his family and I know that there is nothing I can say to ease your pain, but I hope that the world knows how great a man SFC Rogers was and how very much he meant to each and every one of us whose lives he touched.

I pray for peace for the family of this wonderful man. His story touched me. It is great to know that one more little girl has hope in her life again because of such a noble, humble man. God sent him down as an angel to do His work. God bless you and your family!!

In memory of SFC Greg Rogers, my cousin, who sacrificed his life for something he truly believed in. I honor your memory and I will always remember you as the beautiful, kind soul you were. It was easy to see you had a heart of gold, Greg. It was obvious to anyone who met you. Your spirit was so gentle and kind. We are blessed to have shared your life and you have affected all of us forever. You gave your all for your family and your country. Your bravery and skill as an experienced soldier will never be forgotten. You will always be a HERO in my eyes. Thank you for everything.

Eternal love and admiration,

Your cousin Jen

Dearest Donna, Curt, Jeff, Tammy, Kevin, Whitney, Chelsea and other family members and friends. I have just come from the funeral of our "fallen Hero" and very saddened by his loss. This was my first experience at a military service and this one was even more special because of all the connections Greg's brother and sister have with the fire dept., police and EMT's. The total love and support added by these other "protectors of human life" was something none of us present will ever forget. I have always loved my nephew Greg, even when he was little and used to try my patience when I watched him, but now I feel like I really know him and what he stood for. I am so proud of him for all his accoplishments and for being willing to put it all out there on the line for us-as all of our servicepeople do. I feel very inspired to do more because of the things that I have heard the last couple of days-thanks to Greg. Often times when tragedy strikes we want to question God-"WHY?" And some things we will not know until we we get the answers at the Lord's coming. But I truly believe that all things work together for good to them who are called according to His purpose and God knows Greg's death was not in vain. People have been touched by his life and his death-just like me. Yes, it will take time before we can talk about him without crying and we will always miss him. I am just so thankful to him and others like him who are so selfless that they are willing to die for your freedom and mine. I am proud to be an American and thankful for all the support that has been shown to our family this past week.

I just wanted to send my prayers and condolences to the family on this tragic loss. No one can say anything that will take the hurt away. My brother is also a member of the 101st Airborne and is serving in Iraq right now. Everyday, I pray for his safety, and all the other men and women serving. I can only hope and Pray that throughout this tough time, you turn to God for support and comfort. Although I never met Greg, it is my prayer that he is sitting in Heaven right now with his creator. Right about now God is telling him "well done, good and faithful servant" God Bless!

To the family of SFC Gregory Rogers:

I only knew Greg from high school but ever since I heard about what happened it has remained with me each day. It is amazing how someone I knew 25 yrs. ago can do that. I opened the newspaper this morning (Dayton Daily News) and right there on the front page was a short story about how the donation of Sandy's diabetic pump to a 13 yr. old will now provide this little girl a better quality life.

My prayers are with you all. Find comfort in knowing that Greg will continue to be present in the lives of those he never knew he touched.

There are no words that can truly express the gratitude of a grateful nation(s) for such a sacrifice, defending the lives and freedoms of others. God holds a privileged post for those honorable and brave soldiers who do so. Thank you for your service and ultimate sacrifice. God have mercy on your soul. Carry on.

I see some familiar names as I read through these guestbook entries, and some I do not know so well, but each I know comes from the heart and means the world to Gregory's family. My great uncle was Gregory's father. My grandfather is his uncle. For those who said that they have photos of him, if you would could you please email me those, I would really like to have them. My immediate family would really love to have some too. I want to thank everyone for their condolences. God Bless, and may he rest in peace.

My condolences to the Gregory family. Greg spoke often of all of you, including Sadie, Lady and Squire. There was not a 48 hour period that went by that he and I did not talk since November. Greg made me laugh and made me cry. All of these letters I still have and would like to share them with his girls. I have a few photos of

Greg as well. He was a wonderful man. My daughter and I will miss him. My son is Station at Fort Lewis, WA and will miss my forwarding messages from Greg. I have often thought of this week,if Sandy needed him more than we did here. We will miss you Greg. God Bless.

To the Family of Sgt. lst Class Gregory S. Rogers:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
