Each year during Memorial Day weekend I pause to remember Robert Ehney. Having celebrated his baptism into the Christian faith in 2002 at Hope Springs Church and then officiated his funeral in 2006, I feel a special connection with him. I have shared his story with others countless times. Robert is truly never forgotten, and I believe the hope of eternity is his reality today. I continue to pray for his family as his loss will always be felt in their hearts.

AS I look back on my 20 Year carrier i can't help but think about all the men and wonen that has paid the ultiment sacrifice for the freedom that Americans share today. 30 Nov 2013 I retired from the Army reserve and looking back to all the people that I have touched and that has touched me with support and kind words when needed. SGT Ehney was a Army Soldier that did just that. I also grew up in Memphis, TN and all I wanted to do was serve the American people and protect them abroad and local. SGT Ehney Thank you for serving and protecting this country by paying the ultiment sacrifice my heart goes out to your friends and family during this holiday season. Love you Brother and my God keep you friends and family close in his arms until we meat on the other side. You are and will always be missed

Dear Harry and Mary Beth: We just lost two firefighters in the area recently and I couldn't help but stop and think of your son, who also gave all. They were loved in life, honored in death and God has them all in the palm of His hand. May your sorrow continue to lessen day by day, knowing you will never, EVER forget. God bless and keep you. Love,

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Robert, but I am remembering on
this day he gave his all.
He is my hero.

Mr & Mrs Ehney, you raised the finest man I ever had the pleasure of serving with. He kept us laughing and smiling. His character and service was above reproach.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Dear Family and Loved Ones of SGT Ehney,
I too was touched by SGT Ehney during our time together in Fox Troop. He is and will always be in the hearts and minds of those that worked beside him and with him during those difficult days. I do remember Robert as a smiling, quiet guy, with intelligent eyes that soaked in his surroundings as he made sense of the things he saw. My deepest sympathy for you and your family as another of our brothers has gone. I pray your memories of Robert are pleasent and assure you that he will be remembered always by us who shed our blood and tears in the sand.

Dear Harry, Mary Beth & Casey,
I'm sorry we couldn't all be there to support you and honor Robert. In my heart and mind, he is still the little boy I used to babysit for and Drew's childhood best friend. (I can still see those little boys together so clearly!) Not having seen him since your family moved from North Carolina, it had been hard to grasp the reality of his being old enough to be a father and a soldier; harder still to fathom his loss. After reading some of the entries from people who have known Robert since we did, it sounds like he didn't change from the sweet (though young) boy I remember. My heart goes out to all of you, and to Will & Amanda. Knowing how hard this is for the rest of us to grasp, I cannot begin to comprehend how far beyond difficult this is for all of you. Though it doesn't take away the pain, it certainly sounds like you have much to be proud of in the way Robert led his life and ministered to others. May you feel God's loving arms around you in tangible ways in the days ahead and know that there are so many people lifting you up in prayer.
All our love,
May 6, 2006

From Day One, Robert was my best friend growing up as a kid. We played war and built forts in each others back yards (and even in other peoples yards!) and lived at each others homes growing up til he moved. When I look back at my childhood, its always been Robert that was there, my best bud in the neighborhood, at church, and at kids camp. He was the definition of a friend to me and that went with me into all my other friendships. And now he's showed me how to be a friend once again, he made the ultimate sacrifice for those he loved back here at home by protecting them, and for millions more he never even had the chance to know. Those millions sure did miss out. Robert always was a great friend, and will always be an example of that to me.
I pray a comforting peace for yall, and for Robert's fiancee and son. I always wished I would one day see him again, as a friend, and see him as a father, but though it won't be as soon as I had hoped, I know one day I will again.
May 5, 2006
Dear Harry and Mary Beth,
I couldn't come but we sent you our best in Bev and her running mate Donna. I thought not coming would make it easier for Bev and Donna to stay and spend some good time with Mary Beth whom she desribed yesterday as a real Southern Lady. It sounds like you have a really wonderful set of memories for the numbers of people who turned out to remember and to honor him, the memories shared of Robert, the way the community so respectfully honored this day for him, etc. Just know Bev is ready to come back to Lexington as soon as she gets Donna back to Wingate and you want her company. It's like you never left Charlotte. You have our prayers continually.
Love,

To the Ehney family and Amanda,
Our school has mourned, in so many ways, the loss of Robert. Though none of us really knew him personally, we felt as if we did because of our love for Amanda. This tragedy has really opened my eyes to what is going on around me. It has brought something that has, in the past, been miles away directly to my city. You are in my deepest thoughts and prayers.
Amanda, your FES family loves you. All of us are here for you and wish that things had turned out differently. There are always reasons why God takes and gives. You are His child and He loves you. Trust that there will be a day when all of this makes sense.
Sincerely,

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

To MR. & Mrs. Ehney, Casey, Will and Carrie, I'm very sorry for this to happen to the 5 people I knew that loved him the most. I only met Rob one time, but I feel like I knew him a lot longer from all the silly stories. I really wish I could have got to know him more. Rob, a son couldn't ask for a better dad, William will always talk about how GREAT of a dad and soilder you are. He tells me everyday that he isn't going to kindergarden next year, he's going straight to the army:) May GOD bless you Rob.

May Mrs. Amanda Ehney and all family members, know Our Brother Robert William Ehney, fulfilled his duty and knew the risks of going into the current war zone. We all were made aware of the risks. God above gave His word to take care of His warriors in time of peril.
Time will heal your hearts. R. W. is within your hearts and minds for eternity.
Gods speed..

May God hold the Ehney and Applegate families close and comfort them in this terrible time.
We are blessed with families with young men and women who place themselves in harm's way, unselfishly, so that others may enjoy the fruits of Liberty.
All Americans, Iraqis, and people from all the other nations America protects owe the Ehney and Applegate families beyond anything we can ever repay.
SGT Robert W. Ehney will NEVER be forgotten!
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13 (KJV)
As Christ died on the cross for the sins of others, SGT Ehney died for the freedom of others. See you in heaven brother.
