Dale Kelly Obituary

RICHMOND -- Staff Sgt. Dale J. Kelly Jr., 48, heroically lost his life in battle in Iraq on May 6, 2006, after his convoy was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device.

Dale has gone to sit at the feet of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born to Barbara (Fitzpatrick) and Pvt. Dale Kelly on Nov. 30, 1957, in Stuttgart, Germany, where his father was serving in the Army during the Cold War. Shortly after graduating from Cranston High School, he joined the Rhode Island Air National Guard, 143rd Tactical Airlift Group, as a loadmaster. While serving the first nine years of his military career, he met and married his soulmate, Nancy Cabral, also a member of the 143rd Tactical Airlift Group. They were married on Dec. 20, 1980, at the Church of the Transfiguration in Cranston, R.I. They renewed their vows and everlasting love at their 25th wedding anniversary on Dec. 17, 2005, shortly before his deployment to Iraq.

Dale, a faithful and loving husband, devoted father, brother, son and nephew, spiritual leader and leader of men, will be remembered most for his uncanny ability to use humor as a tool through all difficult situations and his willingness to rise to any occasion God placed before him. He navigated his way through life's hardships, burying a son, a father, two grandfathers and two grandmothers, as well as all of the day-to-day hardships of living a humble, middle-class life. He lived life one day at a time and would always start his morning with a prayer that God would direct his thoughts and actions. Every life he touched from the scouting world, to the work environment at Bath Iron Works, to his church, St. Paul's in Brunswick, to the Recovery Community, to the soldiers he served with in two states and two branches of the armed forces, and to his family, friends and neighbors, all were enriched by his presence. This is a loss to many but a reminder to all, to hold dear to us what is important, to live our lives as sober, believing, obedient men and women and to ascend to victory in all situations to the glory of a power much greater than us.

Dale is survived by his wife of 25 years, Nancy L. Kelly of Richmond; three children, Julie Trainor and her husband, Will, of Norridgewock, Christopher Kelly of Hallowell and Jennifer Huppe and her husband, Michel, of Brewer; three grandchildren, Alexis Trainor of Yarmouth and Emileigh and Elizabeth Trainor of Norridgewock; his siblings, Kathleen Kelly Sullivan, her husband John E. "Jay" and their son, Jack, of Narragansett, R.I., David H. Kelly, his wife, Trisha, and their son, Dawson of Warwick, R.I., Barbara Wheaton, her husband, J. Timothy and their children Matthew, Lindsay and Bennett of Yarmouth, Joseph Kelly, his companion, Dawn Altman, and his children Brittany and Cameron of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Kristen Kelly Ciambrone, her husband, William, and their sons, William and Jason of Ashland, Mass.; his mother, Barbara Kelly of Cranston; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, and all of his family of friends of Bill W.

He was predeceased by his son, Michael John Kelly and by his father, Dale J. Kelly Sr. He is survived by his father's wife, Jan Kelly of Cranston. He also was predeceased by grandparents James H. and Florence Kelly and Hugh W. and Barbara Fitzpatrick.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 18, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 19, at The Fortin Group Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 217 Turner St., Auburn; 783-8545. A military funeral will be held to honor Dale's sacrifice for our country at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 27 Pleasant St., Brunswick. Interment will follow at the Maine Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.

In memory of Dale and his service to his country, the family requests that any donations made in his memory be in the form of supplies and support for our troops who are still in Iraq, fighting the war that Dale believed in and gave his life to support. Make checks payable to 3/172 Mountain Infantry Company, 133 Elm St., Brewer, ME 04412. Those wishing to send tributes and watch Moving Memories may do so at http://www.mem.com

So, we come to another anniversary of your life and service given to this great Nation. I still, to this day (5th) 2012, wear a KIA bracelet with your name on my right wrist. I cannot believe tomorrow will mark 6 years. In that time, I have been redeployed back to Iraq and now have a third child. Thank you again and I will never forget!!!

Five years ago today, but in a way, its no different than any other day, because, my brother, I don't need an anniversary to remember you. You're in my thoughts daily. I pray for your soul, and for your wife and children. And, I pray for myself, that my faith might remain strong, and I might continue to believe that death is not an end, but rather, a new beginning. You have gone before me, as it seems you always did. I pray that, when it is my turn to walk that path, you will be there to comfort me, to prepare a place for me.

The unknown unidentifed Soldiers had been dead for nearly a year, finally has a chance to rest on native soil.
A pine box is picked out and the process continues .
What may have gone throught the minds of many people mentioned , many points of views, a ceremony , words said, and flowers from the current President "wilson" wraped up another dead body and laid him to rest.
This is a very motional poem by president wilson it is meant to be honorable And i am deeply sorry if this bothers anyone it is meant to be compasionate not cruel in any form. 75th ranger. bt ft. benning georgia

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Dale will be missed. Probably not many people realize the influence he had on a lot of young men. This would be during the years when he was the assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster for BSA troop 633 in Brunswick. All those Boy Scouts are now young men with families and children of their own. We know for sure that the values and morals they learned from Dale have helped them become worthy fathers, husbands and citizens. If there ever was a man who's life personifed the tenants of the Scout Law and the Scout Oath, it was Dale. It was a blessing to have known him and to have shared his love of scouting. God Bless.

To the Family of Staff Sgt. Dale J. Kelly:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort. When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Kelly family. Having just recently lost my son Cpl. Brian R. StGermain on 02Apr06, I know of the pain that you are going through. Knowing that Dale believed in what he was doing and loved what he was doing I hope gives you some comfort. Family and friends were a great comfort to me and I wish for you the same support that I received and continue to receive. May the Lord guide you through this most difficult time.

Sincerely,

Proud mother of

Cpl. Brian R. StGermain
