To the family & friends, I knew him only for a brief time while we were at the School of Infantry together. He was a great guy who made a lasting impression. After we graduated, I was sent to 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines. While I was serving in Haditha, Iraq, I found out about your loss and the loss of a fellow brother to me. I just wanted to let you know that he has not escaped my thoughts over the last seven years, and he will never be forgotten. Semper Fi brother

Prayer Shawls 4 Fallen Soldiers ([email protected]) is an organization with groups throughout the country who strive to send handmade prayer shawls and/ or lap robes to families who have lost a loved one in service to our country. Members of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, PA would like to honor your son's sacrifice and memory by sending our prayers and comfort through a shawl which we will mail to you. If you are interested, please contact me at [email protected] with the names and addresses and what they would like to receive. We will send them as soon as possible. Also, if you know of any other families who are grieving the loss of a loved one who died serving our country, please pass along my e-mail address, as our organization can no longer get family contacts through the military. Hey Donna, I Served with Steven in Iraq when he passed. I was in his platoon, Bravo 4th plt. Not a day goes by that I dont think of him. I was very close to him and we used to joke about the war and the situations we would be in.I am also from Pa, so we used to talk about home alot when times got tough. I think i might have had lunch with you at the ceremony at camp pendleton. I just wanted to reach out to his family somehow and tell you guys that he was, and still is the best marine I have served with.I also have some of his gear that he wrote on before he passed, and I feel that you are the ones that deserve it. Please contact me my email is [email protected]. It would mean a lot to me if I could talk to one of you guys.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Steven, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

August 6, 2007

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Though I did not know Steven personally, I do know that he was truly a hero! We will never forget him and all the other soldiers who gave us our freedom. My family also lost someone 2 years ago in Iraq. Time passes by quickly but the pain doesn't. We know they are all in God's army now and still watching over us. I just want to thank Steven's family for giving our country a fine soldier. It was because of him and all of the troops that we have our freedom. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I thank you and salute you Pfc Freund. Godspeed.

Dear Freund Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I just wanted to let you know that yesterday at our church, First Baptist of Orlando, we remembered your Steven. Each member was handed a flag and one of us got a flag with Steven's name on it. We took the flags to an open field alongside a major highway and placed them in boards with pre-drilled holes. There are 8,000 flags waving, one with your Steven's name on it. We prayed for your family and all of the other families that have lost loved ones. As thousands of cars pass those flags until July 4th, I hope that each person will say a prayer for your family and for our troops. God bless your family.

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines

Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full

We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward

What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives

Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us

They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown

Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

I am an infantry reservist and served with Freund at Camp Geiger SOI in Sept.-Oct. of last year. I cannot say that we knew each other extremely well, but we had served firewatch together and had had some laughs. I remember Freund being the most motivated during PT and always making his fellow Marines laugh in the chow line. The best way to explain how much he meant to his fellow Marines, friends and country is the reaction a mutual friend of ours made when he heard. When I told the Marine (who is a rifleman in Alpha Co. 1/1 in Iraq) he cried and said, "I knew Freund real well. He had the rack next to mine. I loved that guy. He always had his stuff together, never complained and had the best attitude I've ever seen. He was a Marine's Marine." I have every confidence that Freund is in heaven right now still beating everyone during PT.

May you take comfort in knowing that your beloved Steven is a hero and we all mourn your loss. May God give you strength in your time of sorrow. If God leads you to it, He will see you through it.

To Steven's Family..I am also among those whom you do not know but in a way we are all "family"..your son gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country and no words that i could say could take that pain away for you. But it is my belief that Steven will be one of those many fine military men/women who have gone before him, greeting us all one day as we pass through Heaven's Doors..My heart aches for you all. From another very Proud Marine Mom to LCpl Joshua McCartney, currently stationed in Okinawa Japan attached with the 31st MEU..God Bless Our Men/Women serving our Country

Steven, words can not describe how our family is feeling right now. Missing you is an understatement. We treasure the memories of you and when you were with us for your last visit around Christmas time and we sat around the table and you told us so many incredible stories, we shared your favorite homemade Chicken Romano meal that you always loved, and enjoyed our many great times together as a family. We feel so very blessed that YOU and your FATHER entered our lives. May you forever rest in peace and we will visit you in our dreams.... Thank you for being a hero to us and to our country. We will always love you as a BROTHER and hold you close to our hearts.

Our "Marine" family extends to your family our deepest sympathy on the loss of your precious son. My Marine, by the grace of God, returned to me alive from Iraq recently and I am grateful. May you find peace and serenity knowing he is with his Savior and he helped to leave this world a better place. Be well.
