RIP Brother!! Thank you again for your mentorship and guidance. You were a true compassionate leader! When I learned of your passing in 2009, I was devastated...no words could ever- ever describe how I felt. I will never forget our time spent together in 3/67 AR. I pray often for your wife, daughter and family. I think about our time spent together often, and our laughs we shared. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten!! RIP BROTHER!!

Six years ago today I learned that my brother, SSG Kenneth Irving Pugh had been killed while serving on his second tour in Baghdad, Iraq. Naturally this was the worst day of my life, never could I imagine dealing with this kind of pain and never seeing my best friend again. I thank GOD for being able to still share moments with you in my dreams and random occurrences. My guardian angel is always near and I am thankful for that. Your little sister loves and misses you.
I just miss your face and your laugh! I swear I can still hear it, which in one thing I'd fear would forget as time passed. I love you big brother and miss the bond we shared. It was an honor and pleasure to have been your little sister, I hope I made you proud.

Hey Bro this Donny,
Thanks for watching out for us bro. I know you and the Big man up stairs got your hand over us. We miss you Bro. You ride with me everywhere I go. I just wish we could have done it once, but I know that you will once I start riding again. I found someone who can get me all the parts for the bike Bro. I was workin on it today and...... This is not what I had in mind, to work on it, by myself. But you know what Bro every time I work on YOUR bike some thing makes me want to finish my classes quicker, I come to the conclusion you trying to tell me something. But I promise you Bro I will have your bike done before the summer is over. Got a few "bumps in the street" I remember you telling me that. So "just shift and ride on through", thats exactley what Im gona do. Well Bro we'll talk later.

Well Kip,
It is Thanksgiving once again and I am taking time out of the day from all of the friends and family gathered in my home to remember you. I keep wishing you were here but all throughout the day, I felt you near me...while I was cooking...while I was cleaning...and while I was enjoying laughter with my family. I swear I could hear your laughter as well. So today is one day that I did not miss you because you were with me and your presence was definitely felt. I love you very much big brother!

Two years ago God called you home on this day and that is a decision I have struggled to understand for the past two years big brother.
A letter you wrote me while you were in Iraq said, "I love you Fathead, everyday I look at your picture and tell you I love you over and over again." Well I want to tell you that every morning I go to the mantle over the fireplace where I have pictures of you, us when I was a kid, and your military pictures and I look at everything, reminisce, and tell you I love you everyday too. I will do that until I see you again, sometimes I can't wait for the day.
I love you Big Brother and I miss you terribly. I miss your hugs, your laugh and the way you used to put me in a head lock and pull my poney tails. We all miss you KIP!
Love you,

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Kenneth, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Sgt Pugh was my first line supervisor in Germany, my first duty station, from 1992 to 1994. He was both a role model and a mentor. He was always very genuine in his concern for taking care of soldiers. He left a lasting impression on me, and it was an honor to serve with him.

This is our second Christmas without you here KIP and it does not get any easier by the day, hour, nor minutes. I look at all the things I have done with myself since you have been gone. I went back to school and am doing really well but you are the one person I want to tell the most about everything and it hurts that I can't do that. I talk to you all the time. I think of you often and just when I think it gets easier something happens or is said that reminds me that it doesn't get any easier.
You were my big brother, my best friend and I have not found that in anyone else. Sometimes I feel guilty that I search for it on another person but I know I will never find it. There will never be another you.
Everyday I look for ways to get across to you whether its talking aloud or writing in this guest book. I don't care who sees, I don't care who hears this. I just wish you could hear me and I could see you. Merry Christmas and I wish you were here.
Forever Missing you

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

My heart goes out to Staff Sgt. Kenneth I. Pugh. I don't know him but he will be miss.
August 6, 2007
I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Know that you will always be a part of our family and if there is ever anything that you need, day or night, we are here for you!
Sharon, you had a truly AMAZING husband, and I thank you for sharing him with Dan and I. Dan talks about him to me all the time, and neither of us would be the people we are today without his influence. I will never forget him sticking his head in the webcam with Dan to wave Hi to me...it always made me feel at ease to see him there. Knowing that Ssg Pugh was out on missions with Dan always gave me a comfort; they always looked our for one another, and I know that Ssg Pugh is looking out for all of us now from a better place.
Never hesitate to call me for anything, and I'll see you soon! Dan and my prayers are with you every day.
Love, Hailey and Dan Waters

My sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of KIP. I am deeply saddened by this news. I did not know KIP, I am related to the house-mate of Chris, KIP's brother. I live in Ontario, Canada. When I was asked to say a prayer for the family, I was only to glad to do so. I feel and share your pain. KIP what a brave soul you must have been.

Sharon,
It was with heavy hearts that my husband and I attended Kenneth's funeral. We met you through our son-in-law, Dan Waters, and felt that we knew Sgt. Pugh much better than we did because of all the stories Dan told us of him. The few times we were with him were fun. He was the life of the party at their wedding reception and we were so happy that you all came.
On December 6th, before 4th ID deployed, we visited with Sgt. Pugh again. He was ever the leader and you knew it by his actions. One of the many reasons his soldiers respected him so much was he led by example. He showed them what to do and how to do it. He told us he would retire from the Army in a few years. Before they left, he promised to take care of Dan for us, and he did. We planned to have a big party when they returned from this tour in Iraq. Instead, we were thrown a curve and Sgt. Pugh won't be here to celebrate their safe return.
Dan told Hailey that the best legacy for Sgt. Pugh is that years from now he will do something or think something a certain way because that 's what Sgt. Pugh taught him. No one else would necessarily know why he was doing it the way he was, but Dan would. When you multiply that by the number of men and women whose life Sgt. Pugh touched, he has an overwhelming legacy.
We can not imagine your loss, but please know that our heartfelt sympathy and prayers are with you and your family. You had an extraordinary husband who is missed by many.

Sharon I just want you to know that I love you dearly and if you should ever need anything I am here for you, but now is the time that you are going to have to call on God...he is going to be to only one who will get you through this. You have a lot of good memorys and if you never find true love again you can always say you had true love with Staff Sgt. Kenneth I. Pugh. That man loved you more than life itself and there are a lot of women who would love to have what you have and I say have because just because he is resting in the sweet arms of Jesus he is watching over you and telling you ever day just how much he loves you. Instead of giving in or giving up, look up to God, expect him to help you, and remember the reward that is waiting for you: and your reward is you will see Kip again in Heaven. I love you and if you need me call Chris and get my number and I'll be there in a heart beat. Hold on to God's un Changing Hand!

I remember the very first time I met Kenneth when we were at Madison High School. We were in the 10th grade and we were standing in line getting lunch. I was ahead of him and I did not have enough money to pay for my lunch. He saw that I was short of what I needed and he gave me his lunch money and told me that he was not hungry anyway. :) THAT is the kind of man he was. A real friend who always could make you laugh. He had a quiet grace about him that set him apart.
As we enter into our 40's my memory is not what it used to be. I don't recall many of the people that I went to high school with but I will never ever forget KIP! My heart breaks and I can't seem to stop crying just thinking about the man that he grew to be and the ultimate sacrifice that he made in the name of God, Country and Freedom.
I pray that my sons grow to be half of the man that God created in Kenneth Pugh.
The Bible says that when we die we are asleep until Jesus returns to judge the living from the dead. The Bible says that the dead in Christ shall rise first and that we who are alive shall be caught up to meet them in the air! OH! That great gettin' up mornin! But until then...Sleep Kip Sleep.
To Kenneth's family...know that I will continue to lift you all up in prayer. I pray that the Holy Spirit will continue to minister to each of you.

Condolences on your families loss.
I have had the pleasure of knowing veterans like SGT Pugh from WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War and now the Middle East.
He rests with his peers and we mere mortals are left with their example of dignity and service. As good soldiers and citizens like these always provide light to America's path. Irreplaceable and spirited humans all.
Again I wish to express my deepest condolences to the family, He is the finest kind. Always to be remembered and respected.

I just found out from my wife that SSG Pugh was killed. I would like to express my deepest sympathies for the family. If it is any consolation at all, I would like you to know that he was one of the finest platoon sergeants that I ever worked for and the Army is a poorer place without him to share his knowledge and wisdom.
