I was thinking about Cliff and his whole family. Spending July 4th week at the beach together for years in a row. That last July 4th week, Cliff drove from base to beach, back to base day after day. 2 mos. later Cliff was gone. I'm glad Cliff did all that driving, for his family, especially his Mother.

I was just thinking about you today! I went to the Panthers game over Veterans Day weekend and they had a beautiful half time dedication to all Veterans and it gave me goose bumps thinking of you all that are still here and are gone. I am glad that I was welcomed into your family and always felt like a part of the "Golla clan" you are very loved and missed deeply by many!!

To my little brother,
Everyday you are in our thoughts... We talk about you all the time to your little nieces. We miss you so much. I still have that feeling in the pit of my stomach when I think of you and realize that you are really gone. Your anniversary is a bitter sweet day... bitter because your gone from us, sweet because you are peacefully in heaven. I love you so much and wish that you were here growing up with Scar and me like you were suppose to. But I guess God had other plans for you and it is still hard to adjust to it. We love you so much and think of you every day!!

Your sister,

In Memory of Cliff ~ (Debra Estep)

September 1, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Cliff, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines

Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full

We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward

What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives

Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us

They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown

Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

To the Golla Family, my heart goes out to all of you. My daughter, Megan, went to Northwest and was good friends with Lynnette and Cliff. She sends her blessings and love.

May God bless you with peace and wonderful memories of your beloved brother and son. You have and will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.

Lynnette, I wrote this poem several years ago for a friend, but it seemed appropriate for you now. I hope it brings you comfort.

Brothers

Brothers are to sisters,
Like no one else could be,
A tower of strength and understanding,
To lean on, to listen, and see.

Brothers may be younger,
But taller they become,
We look to them for power,
To help us overcome.

They help us get the lid off,
Teach us to throw a ball!
Give us inspiration,
Pick us up if we should fall.

Brothers are our confidants,
They listen with such care,
Not to judge or take control,
For they would never dare.

They break our hearts to pieces,
But we love them in a way,
That only sisters understand,
A bond that lasts always.

Forever in our hearts to be,
Remembered every day,
A smile will come, and then the tears,
When no longer they can stay.

We call their names and see a face,
So good, so gentle, so kind,
A brother is a blessing,
Thank God that he was mine!

There are so many of us who have had the knock on the door. You are not alone, you are in our thoughts and prayers, as are all the families who have lost, or are praying not to. Cliff must have been a committed and courageous person, or he could not have been where he was. My son Benjamin was KIA in Ar Ramadi Iraq on February 25, 2006. It is never all right, but we try to live well for those we can touch til we see him again. I know from the things said about Cliff that he came from a loving and affectionate family, and I am sure you will lean on each other through the hard times. Love never ends.

September 17, 2006

I met Yvonna Golla in the Fall of 2005 and, shortly thereafter, her daughters and her son Cliff. There is an extra-special love and attachment of every mother to her son, and Yvonna's to Cliff was evident in her smile, the shine in her eyes, and the glow on her face every time he walked through the door coming home on leave from the Marines. What mother wouldn't be proud of a handsome, intelligent, sensitive, considerate, humerous son with a passion for living life to the fullest? Cliff was a very proud member of the USMC and shared with friends and family many of his first tour experiences in Iraq. Nothing we see on TV can compare to the photo images he brought home with him. Along with stories of the horror and agony of war, he was proud to tell us all about how he and his squad had saved the lives of many young children from starvation, abuse, and abandonment.

He'd only been back in Iraq for a month on his 2nd tour when he fell victim to an IED ambush by the bad guys. His memorial service was the most beautiful 2-day tribute to a serviceman that I've ever seen. Along with hundreds of friends and extended family, Cliff was given a stirring escort of 100+ members of the Patriot Guard Riders along with his fellow marines as an Honor Guard. Always the clever prankster, we think Cliff's last farewell bit of fun was to ask the Lord to disable the family's black funeral limo just as it approached the cemetery, forcing them to "catch a ride" the rest of the way with members of the Patriot Guard Riders on their Harley bikes. After the service was finished and the last notes of "Taps" faded away, Yvonna, her sisters, her daughters, her future daughter and mother in-law all found some true joy in thinking about Cliff's last cute "Hurrah"-- as, in spite of their somber long black outfits, they hitched up their skirts and enjoyed their 2nd ride with American flags streaming in the wind, back from the cemetery to St. Matthews, courtesy of the PGR Harley guys!

God Bless you Cliff Golla, and thank you through eternity for the joy and happiness you brought into so many lives during your twenty-one years of living here on Earth.

September 17, 2006

To the family of LCpl. Cliff K. Golla: It was my honor to ride with the Pastriot Guard in honor of your son. It will always be special to me because it was my first mission. I would like to offer to you a special poem I wrote several years ago. Being a Viet Nam veteran (USAF) it has special meaning for those heroes but I think it is very applicable to all who wear the uniform of any branch of service. Especially those who make the ultimate sacrifice:

“Heroes All”

“Heroes all, you are to us

Those in whom, we’ve placed our trust

You gallant warriors, brave and strong

Welcome home, job well done.”

Where you’ve been, we’ll never go

What it’s like, we’ll never know

We can only guess, the fears you faced

And how you endured, -- by God’s Holy grace.

You went with only one guarantee

Your mission filled, with uncertainty

What drove you on, it must be pride

Your dedication, you can not hide.

You stood proud, your heads held high

Not knowing then, if you might die

Your faith in God, gave you might

Believing in Him was your light.

Whatever it takes, it’s plain to see

You’re willing to do, to keep men free

You stood strong, you stayed the course

America’s finest, America’s choice.

You went out, day and night

Fighting for a cause, wrong or right

Gallant warriors, those like you

When the call comes, know what to do.

You engage, firefights rage

Bullets fly, comrades die

You stood tall, and some did fall

Some came home – and some “The Wall”

“Heroes all, you are to us

Those in whom, we’ve placed our trust.

You gallant warriors, brave and strong

Welcome home, job well done.”

MAY GOD BLESS !!!!!!

September 17, 2006

To the Family of Lance Cpl. Clif K. Golla:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

Where do we get such men? How is it that free men and women, living a life of pleasure and ease, will willingly put aside their freedom to serve the cause of liberty, asking only that we support them and honor them in this task? I know not from whence they appear, but I thank Divine Providence that they do step forward to shoulder the burden of freedom for all of us. Thank you, Cliff. You will not be forgotten.

Another Fallen Angel.....I am so sorry about your Marine. I did not know him but I feel as though he is part of my life because he died for me and my family. Please remember that I will NEVER forget the sacrifice that he has made for all of us. I fly an American flag along with a Marine flag in my yard and will until the day I die in honor of your son and all the others that have gone before and also for the ones to follow. Pray that this war ends soon but not until it is won. Our sons and daughters must not have died in vain. Semper Fi

Serving with your son was a great experience as he was such a genuine person and a fine Marine. I find it awfully difficult to think about Cliff now that hes gone. I remember going to the gym with him and laughing after we'd finished our time in Iraq during the last deployment. And Cliff I really gotta tell you man that I cant stop cryin, looked over some pictures of you today and I just wish you where here so I could talk to you again. You'll always, always be in my thoughts every day, but as tough as this is I know your in a better place than all of us. Semper Fidelis to my hero and my friend, I love ya man.

Dear Golla Family, You have my deepesr sympathy for the loss of your son. I know it is hard to understand why such a young person can be taken this way. One thing you can surely be proud of was that Cliff was doing what he chose to do. Not many 21 year old young men have this kind of commitment. As a brother Marine of the Vietnam War, I feel as though I too hav elost a brother. I know when my time comes I will be able to proudly enter Heavens Gate, and shake Cliff's hand, and say well done Marine.

To Cliff's family and friends-

My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.

They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

Even though we have never met I feel as if we are a part of a "family". My daughter's fiancee was killed in Iraq by an IED on Oct. 3, 2005. It is my prayer that you will feel God holding as close to His heart as He has held my family these past months. May you feel His peace and comfort as you face the difficult days ahead.
