Today my husband and I participated in a Run/Walk for the Missouri Fallen Soldiers at Lake of the Ozarks.
Cpl. Russell Makowski is who I walked in memory of. I will remember this day for a life time. I want to thank him and all the fallen soldiers for their service and sacrifice to this country. We as a country remain safe because of them. He will never be forgotten. I will think of him often and continue to keep him and his family in my prayers.

Follow The Rainbow To Heaven.
=======================================
A Soldier had die out on the
battlefield;
Broken hearts are weeping For
Them,
But take comfort of knowing
that God had sent Them a
rainbow from heaven;
The Souls of the Soldiers
have gone to there home
in heaven,
Our Loved One's has follow
God's lovely rainbow in the
sky;
All the way to the end of the
sky.
That leads all the way to the
other end of the Lord's
house in heaven,
So just keep on praying and
trust that God will send us
that same rainbow in the sky;
Where Our Loved One's are
waiting For You and For Me at
the end of the rainbow in
heaven.

He loved what he stood up for in this war. I miss him. All of 4-42FA and 4ID and our country will never forget a hero like him!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Russell, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

A quilt was made to honor your son and though we can not put our arms around you I hope the quilt will. Your pain has been heard even here in Iowa. Your son will not be forgotten nor will his family. A warrior was your son and man of honor and courage. This country was founded by man like your son. He gave it his all something many will not do. Because of men like your son this country is what it is without him and others we would not be able to enjoy all the freedom that we take for granted. I will never take freedom for granted for I know at what price this freedom came about. As I respect the wonderful young man you brought into this world and taught so well to care for others I will honor the freedom that he worked so hard to make sure the rest of us would enjoy. Your pain has been heard and it will never be forgotten. Freedom Quilts will alway remember all those that died for us and all the families that now mourn the lost of great warriors. Email me if you like my email is [email protected] Take care and God bless.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Russell was an extraordinary American and a great soldier. He always placed the mission before anything else he enjoyed. Mostly going to the gym with his buddies. He was very family oriented which is a shame that they had to lose a great son/brother/grandson. He was also a brother to us. I served in his platoon. He will be missed and remembered forever. God Bless.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To Russell's family, We want to let you know that Russell's name was read last night, and a candle was lit in his memory, and prayers were said for him and his loved ones, at a Service of Remembrance in Honor of Our Sons and Daughters Who Have Gone Before Us. This was held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in St. Louis, for a consortium of five South Side churches, and the candle was lit by Marilyn McGuire, in place of his parents. We too have a son in the 4th Infantry Division who has been in Iraq during the same time as Russell, and although our son did not know him personally, our family felt the pain of your loss and we wanted to remember Russell in this special way. Please know that you and your dear son are in our thoughts and prayers. He cannot be replaced, nor should he be, but he will long be remembered. May God bless Russell's spirit and perpetuate his memory. With love from our family to yours.

I don't know what to say about Makowski that probally has not already been said a million times, but I can say that I am proud to have served next to him. He was the ideal soldier, always ready for the mission at hand and willing to do whatever it took to get the job done. As days go by now the pain is still deep but we try and remember how he lived, we try our hardest to try and understand why so young he was taken from us when deep inside we were so very far from wanting him to leave us, but we know we will all see him one day smiling and saying finally we are all together. As time goes by we will always remember the man he was and everything he did for the country and us. May we hold the memories, laughter, he gave us all with such warmth and love in our hearts and souls. Maybe, knowing he knew he was and always would be loved by family and friends will give us some comfort in our time of grieving and soul searching trying to understand why him. But, we can look at it as our precious lord was ready for him to come home and his job was done, he leaves behind alot of love ones and friends that will always have him close to their hearts. Let everyone take one moment out of their day everyday to look up in the sky and tell him hi and we will see him soon.

To the Makowski family and friends - May the grace and peace which comes from God, the father and from our Lord Jesus Christ abide in us all.
My deepest sympathy to you from the bottom of my heart is felt for your loss of Russ. May God be with your family at this time of grief and comfort you.
June, our families have shared such moments of love,laughter,loss of our loved ones and hope to be with them again. You also, told me that Russ had a mission from a young age and that was to be a soilder. He was a brave and courgeous young man to die for our country.
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13
Russ and his fellow soliders have fought for our privilage of Freedom. Freedom is not free it comes with the responsibilty that Russ had shown. What a scarfice he had given. He stood up in what he believed. He did this freely for his family,friends and country. I am greatly thankful for his love and for the other soilders before him. And the love of those who are still fighting for our freedom. May Russ rest in the hands of our Lord God until we meet him again.

Dearest Pam and Mark - I am a friend of Claudene's, and when I found out about your son, my heart fell once again. I just lost my son of 22yrs on Aug.12,2006. I feel your pain, and wish I could have been able to carry that burden for you. As we all know, there is a plan being made by a higher power than us, and we just have to pray that we all get through it. I lost my first born in 1983, he was only 4 months old - we do not know why our children are taken from us, as no parent should have to bury their children - it just is not right. I now have buried 2, and have one left with me on this earth. Please know that my heart goes out to you, and anything at all I might be able to do from Utah, all you need do is ask, and I will be there for you and your entire family. All my love, Paula

To the Family of Spc. Russell M. Makowski:
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Spc. Russell M. Makowski, with a multitude of Thanks for this Hero's Service and Dedication to our Country and for our Freedom.
May Russell Rest Safely, in God's Loving Care and know that he shall NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
May God's Healing Grace and Comfort be with the Makowski family.
I am the Sister of such a young hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.
Surely He hath borne our grief, and carried our sorrow.
Isaiah 53:4
With each new day, may the Lord restore your soul and, through His love, give you the strength to go on.
Softly and slowly...
Time heals...

To the family of Russell Makowski,
I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to your family in the loss of your son. My son served with Russell at Taji in the 4/42nd. He was honored to do so.
My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead. You and yours are in my prayers. I just wanted to let you know that we will not forget the sacrifice Russell made for freedom, with honor and courage.
Grace and peace,
