Been almost 5 years buddy and I still think of you on a daily basis. We may not have spent much time together, but in the short while you were a true friend, great soldier and out standing NCO. RIP my friend

He will NEVER, EVER, be forgotten! When I first met him, we were at Fort Jackson, SC waiting to be shipped out to Germany. When I first arrived there I didn't know anybody I'm hispanic and did not speak much english at the time, but some how he manage to approach me and establish a friendship from there. Then we find out we were heading the same way, Baumholder, Germany. He was a great men and friend and I mean it when I said that he will NEVER be forgotten. Gob Bless his Family!

I can't believe it has been more than 2 years since that day Smitte. Not a day passes when I dont see your smiling face. You had a way of making any situation better. I will always remember the day I was upset about a personal issue. You looked at me and said In 5 years is it really gonna matter. I had to laugh and say no it wont. You had the ability to raise the morale of everyone around you. On 14 Seo 2006 not only did I lose a fellow NCO but I lost a brother and more and importantly a friend. God bless you and your family. I know you are in heaven with the lord. I will never understand why that day happened to us but all I can do is make sure your name lives on. I know that deep down there will always be a part of SGT Smith in me.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Aaron, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Loss; the harm or privation resulting from loss or separation, a person or thing or an amount that is lost: as a plural: killed, wounded, or captured soldiers...

Ms. Smith, don't know how or even where to begin this, or why I've chosen to write about such pain. I know its ben a long time since we lost Aaron...I guess Im doing it because of the pain that I know is out there. My fellow brothers who are suffering just as much if not more than I am. I wrote this a couple days after "Smity" was killed!!!! I posted it on my blog, but could never find the write legacy site to post it on.

As I sit here the tears stream down my face. I wonder WHY, why did it have to be him....then I stop and ask myself why did it have to be any of them. They did not ask to be there, but they went as we all do. Providing a service to help ensure that a country of people, so tormented by a regime of self centered, venomous men. Can have what we back in the US call freedom!!!

This is what my fellow comrades were doing, they did not choose to be there, they were put there. They would have chosen to be home with family, friends, and loved ones... But they went where they were needed, put there by those who felt that these tormented souls needed them the most. Today I have lost someone who I've had the distinct pleasure of watching grow into what we as senior leaders all hope to produce, at least once or twice in our careers. A future leader who has a passion for taking care of soldiers, a vision that is unsurpassed by any young, bright, and desirous young man!!!

I knew him like not too many others had the opportunity to. We shared a lot of life's stories...especially about being in the military. He came to me as a young, energetic, focused, and eager young soldier. I was given the pleasure of mentoring him for the short period of time that he worked for me... He possessed a leadership style that all young soldiers could only be envious of! What I seen in him was what I was as a young soldier...A passionate leader.

The pain that I feel, has not consumed me yet, but I know in time it will... I have lost comrades before and this time is no different. Except for the fact that I knew this soldier, I helped raise this soldier, I helped mentor and mold this soldier... For me this is as close as it gets!!!

We all share in the pain and the grief that a Wife, child, mother, father, sister, and brother are going thru and will have to go thru for many years to come. This is not any easy task, but it is one that we will all travel together! for him!!! His life will live on in us all, in his fellow soldiers, leaders, and friends...but more importantly he will live on in me, for I knew him like no other....

I miss you man!!

Smoke Pete!!!!

If there is anything I can ever do. Please feel free to contact me. Day or Night. God Bless

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

MY DEEPEST SYMPATHIES GO OUT TO THE FAMILY OF SGT. AARON SMITH. THERE ARE NO WORDS TO EXPRESS THE PAIN OF LOSING SOMEONE SO YOUNG AND VITAL. I LOST A SON IN BAGDAD ON 8-27-06. I would like Fran and the rest of her family to know that we are thinking about you all, every day. We wish that we could be there with you right now to stand by your side and help you through these tough times. I told you before that I will be there in spirit and if you need anything at all, dont hesitate to ask. I am here for you as you were there for me. Aaron is watching from above and he is also with you all guiding you in the right direction.

September 23, 2006

To the Family of Sgt. Aaron A. Smith:
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

My Deepest and most heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Sgt. Aaron A. Smith.
The price this young hero and his family have paid for this country and our freedom, WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
There is so much thanks to be given, for these young heroes, for their Courage, Service and Dedication.
May Aaron rest safely in God's Mighty Hands and may God's Loving Comfort and Grace be with the Smith family.
I am the sister of such a young hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.
