Hi Doc!
I wanted to stop by and say hi today. You've been popping up on my news feed all week. Last year Frank Sommersville, a local tv news anchor asked People to share their stories about their Heros. of course I had to share yours. I also wanted to thank you again for saving my brother Nathen. Your name is tattooed on my arm forever. You are my hero. You'd be so proud of the man Nathen is today. He is kind, generous, a good father, brother, son, cousin, uncle, nephew. Your actions on 10/2/2006 ensured that my niece and nephew wouldn't grow up without their daddy. That I wouldn't have to watch my mom bury her baby boy. You are a real hero Doc. I will always remember you and I will always be grateful for you.

Just wanted you to know you're not forgotten brother. My children will know the name of a great man served with their dad and gave his life so others could live. Taz Medic Angelo

To the Vaccaro family,
i wish I could hug you and tell you how much Doc means to us. Because of him, Nathan my brother survived his wounds received on September 8, 2006. From what I've been told, Docs persistence to get a medivac and aid to Nathan saved his life.
Thank you Doc

Just thinking about DOC - Its funny how I can remember a lot about DOC but three things that I will truly remember The Day he came to the Platoon, The Day he was wounded the first time and refused treatment and The day I called his name at the memorial ceremony at JBAD - but there are some many things about DOC that used to crack me up so I don't dwell on the other things - Rest in Peace DOC

To the family of Spec. Angelo J. Vaccaro, this past Sun. Aug. 23, 2009 "Run for the Fallen" I had the honor of walking on behalf of Angelo. Though the skies were filled with rain clouds, a beautiful rainbow gleamed and I told my son and a new friend that I met at the run/walk, "The rainbow is a sign that our guest's of honor are smiling over us and joining us on this memorial day". Please know that Angelo WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. I know first hand that military families make the ultimate sacrifice when our loved ones are called to duty. I prayed along my walk and graciously praised Angelo for his heroic duty and told him that he will ALWAYS be remembered. I saved my tag with Angelo's name and I will always keep him and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I will continue to wear Angelo's name on all special military event's honoring our service members. Peace and Love of God guide the family of Angelo, and know that I will continue to walk/run in Angelos memory.

October 2, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Angelo, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the family and friends of SPC Angelo Vaccaro,

I am a retired Command Sergeant Major of 28 years. On Friday, 1 Feb 2008, I will address a graduating class of Combat Medics at Fort Sam Houston. In my address I will share the story of this brave young American Soldier's commitment, compassion and courage. I served on the Pentagon staff during 9/11 so my thanks to SPC Vaccaro and his family are deep and personal. God Bless Angelo and those who had the honor to know him.

This quote best describes the warrior spirit of a Combat Medic:

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know

Ray & Linda & Family. It was a real honor to have been able to know Angelo. In the short time i was able to be around him i knew he was special. It took more than most people can image to do what Angelo did. I am proud to have known him and always remember what a REAL Hero Angelo was and IS!

Angelo was a very special young man who touched my heart. He was my first adoptee soldier that my husband and i took in and made sure he was doing ok. Whenever Angelo seen me, no matter if at the mall or at the px parking lot. He would always come by and talk for a few and ask how 'mamabear' was doing. And there was always a hug to follow. Angelo made such a difference in so many peoples lives. Not just in the military world that he was a part in, but in the civilian world as well. I will deeply miss my Angelo. And he will never be forgotten.

To the vaccaro family: This is kim I went to high school with ray he was my best friend. The vaccaro family always welcomed me with open arms and has always treated me with the up most respect. Angelo was always a blast to be around and always no matter what was wrong he could make me laugh. He is and was a great man and will always be remembered in my heart. I can't begin to tell you how sorry I am to hear he has passed. He gave his life for mine and everyone ele's. It takes a heart of gold to do what he did and we all are indebted to Angelo Joseph Vaccaro. You raised sons that were willing to fight and stand up for people they had never seen nor met and for that to the parents you are amazing as well as your sons. I can't express how sorry I am and how honored I am to have known Angelo. My mother and sister send there deepest sympathies to your family. I will never forget any of you and you all will always be in my heart and thoughts. For those who didn't ever get the chance to meet Angelo he was a great man who deserves all of us to always remember him and remember the sacrifice Angelo and his family made for the rest of us. To his family thank you for the contribution you gave to us not just in his death but most of all in his life. Angelo went to war to save lives and that's just what he did. He saved all of our lives and that will never be forgotten. My sincerest and deepest regrets for your loss but my greatest privilage to have known him.

SPC Vaccaro's story touched me to the core because as an army medic that is what we train to do and it takes a special person to get out there and try to save the life of others. Be proud of your son and know that he will never be forgotten as his fellow medics welcome him home in God's house may you rest in peace and may your family find the strength to go forward in love and compasion.
