Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Shane R. Austin US Army Private 1st Class.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

We went to basic together, our first duty station together, our first deployment together. So many fond memories will I have of you Shane. You are a brother to me then, now, and always. I never got to meet your mom an dad, and I wished there was some way I could of helped them through the time of your passing. They raised on heck of a soldier, and most of all a good man. I'll never forget you battle. There isn't a good day that passes or hardship I face that the way you lived inspires me to drive on further and be better. I'll miss you always buddy.

To the Austin Family,
As the school crossing guard for 12 years in Edgerton, I saw Shane nearly everyday during that time.He would still cross the street with me even when he was old enough not to have to. We had long talks about anything and everything. He especially liked talking with me about God. Shane wanted to do something with his life that he could be proud of. He would always ask me about my son Grant Repshire who was in ROTC at KU at the time and who is now proudly serving as a !st Lt. in the 82 Airbourne. Shane always wanted to hear everything I could tell him about what Grant was doing. I could see the desire in his eyes to want to follow in that path and make a difference. I would tell him that God had a plan for him and that it would be good. And that he did. Shane in his short time on earth touched many lives. Lives that will never be the same. I want the family to know that I consider myself very blessed to have had Shane in my life. I think of him still, and whenever I want to remember him I just close my eyes and I can still see his great big smile that he always gave me. God bless you all. And Shane, I will see you again someday, we have alot to catch up on!
As Ever,
Miss Julie

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To the family of Shane Austin. I am the grandmother of Cpl David Unger. He was also KIA in Iraq,on Oct 17,2006. I know how you must hurt each day for your loved one. The holidays have been very hard for us.We are so sorry for your loss also. David was such a "great" grandson. We see "David" in his son Gage (22 months), he is just like his daddy when David was that age. It is a nice to know that Shane is also at Ft. Leavenworth. We try to visit David every chance we get. Feel free to write to me. I know how the loss hurts every day.

Dear Austin family,
I am Diana Pitts, proud mother of Cpl. David Unger, KIA in Iraq, Oct. 17th 2006. I know the pain you are experiencing. I pray for your family daily and hope you are able to put one foot in front of the other each day. Life has been very painful here since the death of David. Our sons were taken to early. They are both buried at Ft. LVN. I go to see David about 2-3 times a week. I do not know where Shane is buried there but would like to know as I would also visit his gravesite when I visit Davids. I sometimes don't know how to navigate each day, I just look to GOD and David to help me through. Please know that we understand and feel your pain and that you are in our prayers.

Dear Austin Family, I didnt know Shane but he was a friend of my nephew, Scott Bolen , I read about what happened on the internet . My family shares your sorrow, as we know what it feels like to lose a loved one to war, my brother was killed in Vietnam when he was only 18. Just know that your son was a brave soldier and now he is with the lord and the angels. I will be praying for you and all the friends that Shane leaves behind . The pain will always be there but it will lesson and I know you will never forget , as we still miss my brother and shed tears for him, as my mother has really never gotten over it , But it makes it easier knowing he is resting in the arms of God , just as your son Shane is . May God Bless you and the family and friends and always remember Shane is now a soldier in the Army of the lord resting with Jesus. Sincerely, Sherry Duncan

What an wonderful young man , to think of his fellow soldiers, life is short but what a bright star he must have been.
From the lakes,
From the hills,
From the sky,
All is well,
Safely rest,
God is nigh.
We cry for our loss, but he is there with you during your darkest
hour, because he is in your heart
and mind.
You will see his smile in someone
else. You will hear his laughter in a crowd, you will hear his voice and see his face ,in your dreams and what a wonderful feeling.
You will find yourself laughing
when you remember his jokes or his silly smile of mischief. He is still with you, just in another room.
May God be with you, he is there for you, I know.

Be Still
Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.
Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.
If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. The overwhelming heartache, seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes.
Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
~Ever so softly and slowly, time does heal.~
May Shane Rest Safely, in the Loving Care of God
and know that he WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
I pray that God's Healing Loving Comfort and Grace
will be with the Austin family.
I am the sister, of such a Young, 19 year old Hero,
who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.
Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee.
Psalm 55:22
With each new day, may the Lord restore your soul and, through His love, give you the strength to go on.

To the Family of Pfc. Shane R. Austin:
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son (SFC Brent A. Adams) 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
