Hello,
We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We are sending Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Michael D. Scholl US Marine Lance Corporal.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and many others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

Dear Michael:
You and I haven't actually gotten to meet - yet. I know you're in heaven, saving Addison, and Melissa, and the rest of your friends and family a place in line to see PapaGod. Well, when I get there we'll get to meet in person.
First of all though I want to say thank you for all that you did for me and mine while you were here. You literally laid down your very life for my freedom - you sacrificed everything for the cause of freedom; for me, my husband, my children and for my grandchildren. Thank you doesn't quite cut it, but I at least want you to know that I cherish you, your sacrifice and I honor you for the man of integrity that you are.
And in one of PapaGod's redemptive twists of fate, I am now part of your family as well, again, thanks to your sacrifice . Your precious daughter is now one of my granddaughters , your lovely Melissa is one of my 'daughter-in-loves', and my son, who also served and sacrificed, is now getting to love, serve, protect and parent your precious treasure. They've even named their son in your honor because of how valued and appreciated you are to our family. I just wanted you to know how honored I am to get to love and pray over those you were forced to leave behind for a little while. You are loved, honored, missed and revered in our family culture. I wish my blessing did not have to come at your expense , but I wanted u to know I am grateful.
So, until we get to meet in person, which will actually seem like the 'blink of an eye' in Papa's timing, thank you Michael. I respect, value, cherish and appreciate you. I will do my best to love your family well and to serve you by praying over them in your absence.
Very Truly Yours,
Michelle, aka 'Nana'
As a service member myself, I chose to carry Michael's name with me as a remembrance of those who came before me and my hometown - Lincoln. Semper Fi.

Michael,
My birthday is coming up and its so hard not seeing you ever again. Everyday i sit and wonder when you are coming back. It's hard knowing that you are not going to be there to hold Tylere David. I was going to name him Michael David but that was going to be too hard!!!! anyways i am going to the street dedication on the 29th! I cant wait to see your baby girl she probably looks just like you! Man, this is so hard! Every time i see your picture i start to bawl. I just had one question why did it have to be you? why did you have to leave of all people especially you. Im still mad but not at you. I kind of at the time because that means none of us would see you again but i now realize you did it for me and my kids and your little girl addison . I just want you to come home and physically hold your daughter. I would give anything just to see you one more time. I miss you like crazy!!! I will see you sooner than ever!!
Love you,
Karissa and the twins

Dear Michael,
I love and miss you so very much. The street dedication to rename a street in your name is getting bigger and bigger. March 29th, Sun, 1:00 PM, with a reception following at the Air Park Rec Center. It is the new steet going into the new Arnold Elementary School off NW 48th and just on the north side of the Lincoln Housing Authority Maintenance building. It is open to the public and there is so much interest. There will be Marines, Legion Color Guard, scouts, your family, friends, teachers, Melissa, Addison & Oma!!, the Arnold Heights Neighborhood Association, and it keeps growing bigger. Pastor John will speak at your dedication, how cool is that?
Please watch you buddy Hooker's back while he is deployed. If you have any pull, bring him home safe to us. He will now have a baby daughter to come home to also.
We ALL miss you so much!! After you had already been through so much I guess I almost thought you were invincible. I guess God had other plans. MSgt Busto informs that you are still not off duty just because you are in heaven and that you are still on patrol. Well, at least I know you are safe.
We will see you at the ceremony in spirit. I love you son and as I've told you so often, I'm proud of you. I heard that you were dedicated to teaching your men how to do their jobs well and to saving their lives and others, and that you did save many lives. Job well done, son.
You are my sonshine.

To anyone reading, you are welcome to join us at the street dedication in honor of Lance Corporal Michael Scholl, hope to see you there!

Hey big bro hows it going? Me i am really doing good i had my kids Skiler Elizabeth Down was born at 11:51am weighing 5pounds and 8ounces and Tylere David Down was born at 12:01pm weighing 4pounds and 11ounces. They were born on January 4th. While i was in labor i was really close to losing my son Tylere he was not breathing when he was born they had him on oxygen. All i really remember is touching my baby boy laying there in his little crib and i said "Michael please make my little boy stronger." That night my little boy was taken off the oxygen and i owe it all to my big brother Michael. I miss him more than anything in the world and he has been here with my every step of the way. I miss and love you. I put your middle name into his. I miss you bro.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Michael, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I saw a vehicle today with the Marine Eagle, globe and anchor. You see it catches my eye now that my daughter is a Marine. The next thing I noticed was Michael's name and the dates of birth and death. The license plate said Proud Wife! I had to look up the information. I know it's been two years..but he is not forgotten. Way to go at keeping his memory alive!! God Bless and thank you for showing so much courage.

I can't even find the words...I lost my 19 year old son--5 Sept 2007, Balad, Iraq. I am absolutely devastated and I know that you are too...but find comfort in the fact that we will see our loved ones, our heroes again. Do I wish that I could trade places with my son? ABSOLUTELY not. He is in the arms of our Lord--"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away" ~Rev 21:4

Another Fallen Hero ~
My heart breaks as I sign another guestbook of such a courageous soldier who gave his life so selflessly. May he rest in peace knowing that he is loved and remembered by those who knew him. From one military family to another, we know the pain you feel, we understand what you are experiencing and feeling. No amount of words can ease the pain of our loss and we know first hand there are no words of comfort at this time. We lost our only son 9-3-2004 at the age of 19 and it fells like yesterday. Just know that there are Marines and families across the USA who is experiencing your loss and pain. We will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes.
May God grant you peace, strength and comfort in such a difficult time. My prayers and deepest condolences go out to the entire family.
I still fly my Marine flag and have my Marine tag and sticker on my vehicles because I'm PROUD of my SON and DAUGHTER, and all the SERVICE MEN and WOMEN out there. We will always be a MARINE. We are proud of you all.

I have been trying to find the right time for me to write a message for a while. This is the time. I knew Mike a little before he jioned the Marines and he was a great guy. We got to know each other well and I felt close to him. I sadly got the news to late due to the fact that I myself was training for the Army. I wanted so bad to call Mike to tell him of the accomplishments I had achieved. I feel that this will be the only way to let him know. Now I am being deployed to Iraq and I will be fighting for what Mike was fighting for, his family and his country. Mikes family will always be in my prayers, and I thank him every day for the freedom he was fighting for.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

It will be Easter in 2 days. I feel compelled to post some words of gratitude, but struggle for the correct words that would express my appreciation adequately, but know that my son serves in the Corps with the 1/5 Unit at Camp Pendleton. May love and pleasant memories of you surround your family and friends this Easter.

I just wanted to let you know that our thoughts and prayers are with your family; especially Melissa and Addison! Words can't even describe the pain you must be feeling.
Since my husband recently was honorably discharged out of the Marine Corp we haven't been able to keep in touch with as many people as we would like. Mike and Melissa were two of those people. They are two of the nicest people I've ever met-and anybody who was around them could see how much they were in love.
Melissa, I know that we only met a few times-but I want you to know that if you ever feel like talking; please feel free to get ahold of me. I would love to hear from you!

“Paid in Full”
In Honor of The War Against Terrorism’s Fallen and Injured Marines
Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full
We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward
What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give it all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our minds we will cherish your lives
Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the few, the proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us
They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of the lives that were lost for people unknown
Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

I never had the pleasure of knowing Michael, but he served in the same company out of Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii with our dear friend Lance Cpl. Steven L. Morris, 21 who was killed in combat on Christmas Eve in Iraq.
I know these boys were the bravest of the brave and they loved their country and the Marine Corps with all their hearts.
I will pray for your family and extended family. Please pray those who continue to fight.

Thank you so very much to everyone who posted or will post here about Lance Corporal Michael D Scholl, USMC. We love and miss him so much and I know his wife Melissa does too. What an understatement!!! They had a very rare love and she is a beautiful and awesome young lady. She made our son so happy and proud, so loving and ecstatic. Please continue to offer prayers for her and baby Addison, and for all of Mike's family. No matter how proud of him we are, how much a hero, how much he loved his job and profession, we still miss him so much and it is hard. It is such a shock and I/we will come to a time when we can be stronger and make his life mean even more....somehow... to be able to support others in their grief, and to do something that gives more to others. Michael certainly was giving, loving and caring, and I/we will strive to carry that forward. He was so proud to be a Marine and fought hard for what he believed in. He could have easily not gone, many different ways, but the Marines are his family also and he wanted to protect others, save other's lives and also to come home to his wife and baby daughter. He got to see pictures of his daughter born about a month after he deployed. It took 2 weeks before he got internet time to see them but he did. He said "Mom, things are bad here, you don't want to know" and wouldn't talk about Iraq. But a close friend said Michael wasn't about promotion and advancement, which would have brought pay raises and more money, but that he was about knowing his job well, teaching others, and saving lives. I was told by his company commander that he saved a lot of lives Oct. 29th, and by a couple of others that he saved even more lives at other times. I hope that those people get to come home and rejoin their families. Two friends told me that Michael taught them what it meant and how to love their spouse/girlfriend and how to be excited about a pregnancy. I thank God for the gift of having him, for his being not only a son but a best friend. He was wonderful and I told him everytime I talked to him how much we loved him and how proud of him we were.
Please offer your prayers/thoughts also to his grandfather, David Spanel, who, although he has Alzheimers, remembers and misses Michael deeply.
Michael had two families, two sets of parents, I and Jack and Steve & Donna Scholl. He leaves behind a half-brother Dylan who is 13 and deeply missing him and two half-sisters Josie and Gracia. He was very close to his niece Shanda, daughter of his brother who died when Mike was 15. She has lost too many people in her young life and is having a rough time.
Michael had no cliques that he fit into, he belonged to many or was friends with many in them. He fit in with both older and younger people and was a good friend to so many. So thanks again for your support. It means a lot and helps.

Dear Scholl Family,
Even though we have never met, I feel as if we are a part of a "family". My daughter's fiancee was killed by a IED in Iraq on 10/3/05. It is my prayer that you will feel God holding you as close to His heart as He has held my family this past year. May you know God's comfort and peace as you travel down this difficult road.

As one of Mike's closest friends, I would like to offer my sympathy to the family. To Deb, know that you have many sons and daughters out there through the degree of friendship Mike has always offered. To anyone reading this, this is the loss not only of a husband, father, friend, or son, but a loss of a true hero. He died with pride doing what he loved and I respect him, look up to him, and thank him. Godspeed and Semper Fi.

To Michael's family and friends-
My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.
They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

There is so much thanks to be given, to these young heroes, for their Courage, Service and Dedication.
May Michael rest safely in God's Care and may God's Loving Comfort and Grace be with the Scholl family.

To the Family of Lance Cpl. MIchael D. Scholl:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
