Ginger, you and your children remain in our Hearts and Minds and in our thoughts and prayers again today on this the 3rd Anniversary of "Trojan's" Crash. He is never far from the thoughts of his "Band of Brothers" who had the honor and privilege to serve with him in Iraq. Please Know that the Chief has Troy close to his heart and takes his picture out and tells his story every chance he gets. Today as he continues to walk miles throughout the AOR I know that he spent every minute of every hour reminding Any and ALL Airmen, Soldiers, Marines, Navy & Coast Guardsman that he ran into of the Service and the sacrifice of this Great American Hero and Friend Major Troy "Trojan" Gilbert. He also reminds them of the ones he leaves behind and of their continued Sacrifice. Those of his Wife & Children, Parents and other Family Member's as well as the many Friends who Miss him so much in their lives but who have found the courage and fortitude to continue to live Life to the fullest with great purpose and Conviction. We admire you all so much for your daily strength and perseverance. Maj Troy L Gilbert was and is the Epitome of what the Airmen's Creed stands for and our Air Force was a better place because he served in it for our Nation. God bless, Mags & Chief Scott Dearduff

Dear Ginger and Children,
I cannot adequately express my grief for the loss of your Husband/Father or the profound admiration that I have for the Major.
I will never be able to thank him enough in my prayers or to adequately tell you how very sorry I am for your loss.
My Son was only 20 years old on that day when he radioed your husband of their dire situation.
I firmly believe that it was Gods will that the Major was on station for the assist. From what I heard not many would have been able to do what he did for those "special" young men who would surely have died without the aid of your Troy.
My Son is out of the Military now and he still is unable to talk about that mission, it's just too painful for him. My boy continues to bring the bad guys to justice and to protect the innocent, he is a good man and tries to be worthy of all that have given their lives so that others may live.
He once told me that the Air Force pilots were the best in the business and that he could always count on them to hit the mark.
Thank you God and thank you Major Gilbert.
And Ginger, peace be with you and the Children, always.

Thanksgiving Day 2008.
To the Gilbert Family, the Command Chief and I wanted to let you know that you remain in our constant thoughts and prayers but you are in the forefront of our hearts and mind today on this Trojan's 2nd Anniversary. Trojan was the ultimate Warrior who served with honor and courage and will forever remain a True American Hero to us.
The Chief was able to stop at his Memorial At Balad in Iraq yesterday to spend time with Trojan's memory and to take a moment to honor and reflect on the man who he had the distinct privilege to call friend. We know that Trojan is flying high over the skies of Iraq, and we know in our hearts he has already touched the face of God.
He continues on with a new mission and that is to protect those who remain in harms way continuing his legacy of Service before Self. He was and will always remain the epitome of what our Airmen's Creed stands for. We are so sorry for your loss. God Bless you, Chief Scott & Mags Dearduff

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Troy, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Mrs. Gilbert,
Maj Gilbert and I worked in the same office while we were in Iraq. He always seemed to know when I was down, missing my family, or having a hard time dealing with the stresses of a job I had no experience in. He was a fantastic mentor. His devotion to you and your children was an inspiration. The look in his eyes when I would come back in the office (I'd leave, If possible to give him some privacy) after he had talked to you was amazing. I'd be hard pressed to point out a more devoted husband and father. Today, when I think about Maj Gilbert, I know that he isn't coming back, but I also know that he is in Heaven. Please accept my most sincere sympathy, as he was, for a short time, part of my family too.

Ginger,
This is Diana and Scott Mitchell, we met you and Troy when we were stationed at Lakenheath AFB, you use to be my boss when I was a Visual Merchandiser. Scott and I were very shocked when we saw you on the Bill OReilly news show. We didn't know you had lost Troy. We sat in disbelief because we didn't know that Troy had gone to be with the Lord. You two are wonderful people. Our hearts and love are with you. Troy was such a kind soul and you two made such a beautiful couple. When I last saw you, you two were pregnant with you first, then I received a Christmas card with a picture of you Troy and two of your boys. How blessed you are with five chidlren. We are praying for you and will remember Troy forever and the great sacrifice your family gave so that we may be safe and free. We love you both. If there is anything we can do feel free to contact us. God bless you...

Mrs. Gilbert,
I am a 2Lt in the AF on my way to pilot training. I don't know if you read these postings so long after your husbands' passing, but after viewing your interview on the Factor, I would feel ungrateful if I didn't try to say this to you. You are an incredible example of humility and strength. I truly believe that you exemplify what a military member and his/her family strives to be... patriotic, fearless in the face of oppression, and stalwart in doing what's right. Your husband is proud of you and your family. Thank you for being a great example to me and my wife. May God be with you.

Mrs. Gilbert,
I was watching the O'Reilly Factor and saw the segment with you on it. My heart goes out to you for your loss. I am sorry that some in our nation do not understand your sacrifice or comprehend the kind of man that was lost. Major Troy L. Gilbert was a one-of-kind, a rare jewel in the Lord's eyes. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers as the anniversary nears.
My husband is a Captain in the U.S. Army, military service runs deep in both our families. We admire and honor your esteemed husband. I know it is hard for you and your children and pray that they will always remember what an extraordinary lineage they hail from, a legacy to be proud of.
I am in awe of you for standing up and speaking out. What a difference you are helping bring about in our media system. I can not begin to imagine how hard this is for you. Just know that you are an inspiration to many. You are a stranger to me but a sister in heart through our Savior, Jesus Christ. American military spouses salute you and your family! Thank you for your strength, I am sorry that you have to show it so strongly.

We, as American's have lost too many of our wonderful young people. MY HUSBAND WAS A FIREMAN, who died two weeks before Katrina took our home in New Orleans. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Saddened by your loss.
January 3, 2007
To the Family of Major Troy L. Gilbert:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Please accept our deepest sympathy at the loss of Troy. May God bless and keep you and may He give you comfort in this time of terrible grief.
Major Gilbert's name will be honorably added to the list of Arizona's fallen heros of the Iraqi and Afgani wars at the Nathan Martens Arizona Memorial. It had been our fondest hope that noone else be added but, sadley, our heroes continue to fall. May God bless and keep all those still in harm's way.

My deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to the family of Maj. Troy L. Gilbert, with a multitude of Thanks for this Brave Hero's Courage, Dedication and Service to our Country and for Freedom.
The price Maj. Gilbert and his family have paid, Will Never Be Forgotten.
May Troy Rest Safely, in God's Care and may God's Loving Peace and Comfort be with the Gilbert family.
These Air Force Pilots rank very high on my list of heros and I was devastated when I learned of this crash on the news.
I am the Sister of such a young hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, 12/6/67.
Surely He hath borne our grief, and carried our sorrow.
Isaiah 53:4
May you find comfort and strength, in the beautiful memories of times spent with Troy. Quietly and gently, may healing come, with each new day.
You are in my thoughts and my prayers.
