Jason Huffman Obituary

Corporal
Jason Isaac Huffman
'Jay'
CONOVER -- Corporal Huffman passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2006 in Iraq while serving his country in the US Army. Born December 22, 1982, he was the son of Gary and Karen Huffman. Jason joined the Army in 2003. His first duty station was Mosul, Iraq for 11 months. He was then stationed at Ft. Lewis, Washington for 6 months. After this, Jason served a tour in Camp Casey, Korea for one year. We were blessed to have spent 30 days with Jason when he came home on leave before being stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He did have the opportunity to enjoy Hawaii for a short time. He then was sent to Kirkuk, Iraq for a second tour. He loved his family and his country. His job was important to him. He said if anything ever happened to him while he was serving in the military he would be a 'HERO'. And that he is. We are so very proud to be the parents of a 'HERO'. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Johnny Huffman and Alice Elmore.
He is survived by his parents, Gary W. Huffman (US Army, Ret.) and Karen Barlow Huffman of the home; sister, Torie Murphy and husband Jimmy of Maiden; paternal grandparents, Jean Porch and husband Frank of Vale; maternal grandparents, Earl and Rebecca Barlow of Conover; nephew, Seth Murphy; niece, Emma Murphy; and a number of uncles and aunts.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. at Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden with Rev. Charles Worley officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Road Baptist Church with full military graveside rites. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Providence Road Baptist Church in Maiden.
Memorials may be made to Providence Road Baptist Church Youth Fund, P.O. Box 507 Maiden, NC 28650.

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Jason I. Huffman US Army Corporal. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

I know I never got to know you but we are family. On March 12 2007 I enlisted for basic as a 11B infantryman. In 2009-2010 I served in iraq at JSS McHenry the same place you were stationed, I have seen the memorial painted on the barrier there alone with the others that had fallen. I still continue to serve in your honor. 11Bs lead the way brother

I haven't seen you in so long. I gaze at your picture and try to remember the sound of your voice and that annoying little laugh of yours. You are forever in my heart even though the sounds are fading. I love you, my wonderful nephew. I only wish you were here.
Love and kisses,

today is Thursday December 15, 2011. The announcement was made this morning that today the War in Iraq is declared, "OFFICIALLY ENDED". I know you fought and believed in what you were there to do. We supported you in your endeavours while there. I m thankful for the ending of the War, I do however say that with a bittersweet heart. Iraq took something from us that we will not ever have back here on this earth. We do however have the promise and assurance from God that we WILL be together again with you. Jason, Thank You so much for the unselfish service that you whole heartedly served with. You are and Always will be a True American Hero.
Just wanted you to know. Love and Miss you Bunches,

Missing you. Yet another year has passed and it still feels like yesterday. Fond memories and the occasional quirky jester by someone brings a smile just thinking about you. There are also those days that just a word, a sound or even a thought will still make me tear up and cry, especially this time of year. Missing and Thinking of you ALWAYS.
Love,
Aunt Sherry

I wonder what CHRISTmas is like in Heaven. I am sure we can not imagine. I know that CHRISTmas was Jays favorite Holiday. I know also that the ENTIRE Family misses Him Greatly. We live with confidence that we will see you again one day. Jesus said he will return to take his children to a home where no tears will dim the eyes and there will be no heartaches. Most of all no death will ever be known. We will live forever and ever with Jesus.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jason, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To all of Jason's family and wide circle of friends, the Run For The Fallen team will be honoring Jason at the 2916 th mile early in the morning of August 2, Day 49, as the ninth mile in beautiful Land Between the Lakes National Reserve on the KY/TN border northwest of Fort Campbell.

They set out each day about 6:30am after reading the roll call for the almost 60 fallen heroes whom they will honor that day so wherever you are imagine a cool summer morning in a very peaceful place which you can actually see quite well on the hybrid map on the FLICKR pages on www.runforthefallen.org

A small flag with Jason's picture will fly in the breeze by the highway as a larger Old Glory is jogged down the highway by a lone runner or accompanied by friends or family if they are in the area or other concerned Americans adding their support.

On August 24 across the nation, small informal runs of friends can be organize to coincide with the Final Run at Arlington National Cemetery.

It only takes one person to get the momentum going as I found out in my home town of Irvine, CA , where this Sunday we shall remember that RFTF is honoring one of our own Mark Daily, just outsdie of Nashville TN. There has been a groundswell of support to our seven Irvine families by people who will not forget their sacrifice and plan to come out on August 24 in a show of solidarity to all familes of the Fallen.

Last evening a ret.Sgt Major from Laredo, TX made a long call to me after he had returned from three days in Clinton Co. IL where he had run miles for his son and his son's buddy, also Wolfhounds from Schofield, like Jason, who had been killed in Sept.23, 06. Normally reserved, quiet and deeply grieving, this encounter with such solid and almost overwhelming support from the small towns in Clinton Co. had unleashed emotion as he had run 8 miles on Tuesday and had received so much support and care from strangers. It had only taken one cold call by me a few weeks ago to the mayor of Germantown who grasped the significance and rallied every mayor in the county to get behind this RFTF outreach. It was a moving tribute from America's heartland and will not end there. Further plans are in the works to contact all those families honored that day. This Gold Star dad's experience may help other grieving Gold Star dads, especially, so if you would like to chat with him, just be in touch with me. Don't be a stranger!

After all, our friend James was Yari Mokri's best buddy from boot camp all the way to Hawijah, so the lives of the friends and families of both guys will alwys be entwined however far away we may be, with your son and your family.

Remembering you on this Memorial Day weekend. We owe so much to you. The words "Thank you" seem so insignificant for the most precious of all gifts you gave to all of us. Without you and the other unselfish, extraordinarily brave men & women who have dedicated themselves to preserving our way of life, none of us could be enjoying this wonderful day in this greatest of all countries. All I can do is promise to appreciate to the fullest each and every one of our freedoms and to remember WHY I have those freedoms. Bless you and your family.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

My prayers are with your family now and in the coming years ahead. I am so sorry for the loss of your dear brave son. I want you to know Jason will forever be my Hero. I did not know him here in this life but will one day in eternity be able to thank him personally, for his greatest gift of courage and the sacrifice for us. No man has a greater love than to give his life for another. I will never forget and my children and grandchildren will know of Jason and what he gave for us to live free and have protection here in our home land. Jason was one of our own, here in North Carolina and a close neighbor as we live just the on the other side of the river. He has brought this war close to home for us and reminds us, to keep praying for all our love ones in service for our country.
Forever, with a grateful heart!

“Soldier”
To Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

To Jason's family and friends: I am the mother of Chelsea Simanovich, and the mother of Spc. Benjamin C. Schuster, who was KIA in Ramadi Iraq on Feb. 25th 2006. We know, as much as anyone can, how much shock and pain can reach the loved ones of a soldier. Your young man was and is in all ways the kind of young man we all aspire to raise and love and support. He put himself in harms way for his country and his comrades, and knew his family would stand with him through it all. We, also, did not plan for this outcome, wanted to be the ones spared, but we also are more than proud of who we loved and know that the day will come when we are together again. Please know that you are not alone. Love never dies.

December 15, 2006

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Gary, Karen and Torie,
My heart is breaking as I sign the guest book for another Hero that has been called home. Please know that my heart, thoughts and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss.

We both chose the name Jason for our sons. It means "God is our salvation" and that is no truer than now. There is no greater honor than to lay down one's life for another. To be so proud and so sad at the same time is overwhelming.

One day, our tears will turn to smiles when we look at their pictures. No one can ever take away our memories. They will live on in us forever, as will our love for our sons and their love for us.

My sympathy to Jason's family. I did not know this young man, but he did the most honorable thing a person can do when he volunteered to fight for his country, even at the prospect of his own death. His name is written in my book of heros.

I had the honor and privilege to know Jason through church. I remember when he left for basic training how much of a kid he seemed, but the day he walked into sundayschool class after his training I saw Jason the man. I told Jason that day how proud of him I was and today that pride is even greater. I am glad to say Jason was a friend. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13) There was another Son who laid down his life, Jason is with Him today and he is in some mighty good company. Gary and Karen you are in our prayers daily, we love you both. Rod & Angela
