Hey Uncle Darryl, found this site and really enjoyed reading all the lovely words about you. You passed when I was young but your spirit and love for me never left. It´s so interesting to hear all the different perspectives and experiences people had with you. I have a babygirl now that looks just like that baby that was sitting on your lap. I think she would live up to my nickname firecracker more than I would. I love you and there isn´t a day I don´t think about you.

Hey Dad, your birthday recently passed and today is Memorial Day. I had a friend stopped to tell me "thank you for your dad service and sacrifice for this country" and I'll admit that it made me a bit emotional but super proud to be your daughter. Your life meant so much to so many people and it still does to this day. You have left an incredible Legacy behind and I truly think that no one will be able to fill your shoes, but we all will make our best efforts to make sure your Legacy continues on. I love you Dad. Happy Memorial Day

On January 4, 2007, I was able to speak to Darryl for the last time. We had a good times laughing. We talked for a while and the last words that he said to me was "Mom I love you" and we ended the call. Now that is something that I will never forget. I want all to know that my son is absent from his earthly body and he is present with the Lord. I miss him and today is Memorial Day (2021). I am so grateful that he gave his life to Christ. This is a message to all that is reading this. Give your life to Christ, because we don't know the time when we are going to leave this world. Make sure that you will know that you will be with God in His Kingdom because you have accepted Jesus as you Savior.

Hey SSG Booker, I still remember you every single Memorial Day. I didn´t know you well, but well enough that you made a lasting impression on me even 14 years later. I wish you were able to be here with your family and friends, as they clearly miss you so much. I´m glad they named a road after you, your memory should be honored and kept alive.

Hey Dad, with so much going on in the world today and all the excitement about today's inauguration, I can't help but think about you during this day. To still see how many people who are remembering and honoring you today holds a special place in my heart. So many people here love and miss you so much, including me. I felt a little different to celebrate my 30th without you physically being here, but I know that you are watching and protecting over me each and every day. I love you so much Dad.

Wow, twelve years. I can't believe it's been that long nothing has change and I miss you like the first day. It has gotten a little easier to cope with you not physically being here because I carry you in my heart. There are times when I wish that I could pick up the phone and call you and those moments are the hardest for me, there's so much going on, so much excitement! I still cherish the memories of me walking myself in the bathroom so we can have one of our "private talks". Lol me being afraid to face the world and you reassured me that I can do whatever my heart desires. I love you with everything I have Within Me and you are incredibly missed down here Soldier. Until we meet again I love you so much Daddy

Birthdays and Holidays never feel quite the same without you Dad, just doesn't. I know you are with God and that's the best place you can be. Just feels a little empty without you. Family isn't the same without you. I miss your smile, your laugh, your hugs, I always felt the safest after one of your hugs. I love you so much and there isn't a day I don't miss you. Merry Christmas Daddy.

Most of us, who worked with Darryl, have retired or passed on. The young'uns who took over from us never knew him or what a great guy he was. We, who remain, still speak of him and wish we could once more say, "Hey, Book, what's happening". Ten years have gone by so fast. It's hard to believe he has been gone that long.

I served with Darryl in Iraq. He was a true friend and a great running buddy. We use to get up in the morning before work and go for a run, then breakfast. Then we would drop him off on the corner of a building and tell him that he wasn't going in that building because he didnt have a job. I never seen Darryl go in that building so i started calling him Tommy off of Martin. I miss him. He truly was a friend indeed. I really thought about him more on this second tour when I was searching for a running buddy. Darryl you will always be missed by us.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Darryl, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I'd met Darryl while stationed at Ft. Rucker Al. We were best friends and neigbor with his wife at the time(Cynthia) My wife Tangela miss him very much. We were like family. I also got to meet his brother Andre' when he came down to visit. Darryl always had to have the latest gadget on the market at the time. I didn't like the idea of me not having a answering machine, so he bought us one for christmas. Classic Darryl. Between he and I playing DJ's and Bar-B-Queing, we had a wonderful time all the time. The house parties were great times. But, Darryl always had a calm deamenor about him. Never got to high up or to low down. As cool as the other side of the pillow. We were like brothers and I'll never forget him. Family for life. Love you my friend and Gods Speed.

The thing I remember most about cousin Darryl is his quiet dignity. He had a very powerful presence and an air of strength and intelligence about him, but still he was very calm and humble at the same time. He always seemed to me like a natural leader.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I am signing this Guest Book because Sgt. Booker is buried in Arlington National Cemetery near my son-in-law Spec. Nicholas Brown. As I read his Guest Book I have found out that Darryl is not only a professional soldier but a man of God as well. Nick took his Bible to Iraq but was not allowed to take any Gospel tracts with him. Instead he copied Bible verses and passed them out to anyone who would take them. My sister said that Nick was in Heaven teaching warriors the "Army" way. I'm sure Darryl is helping him with this. Please accept our prayers and sympathy during these hard times. Thank you,

To the family of Darryl Booker,
Your father, son, Husband and Brother will be dearly missed by all who he touched and knew. He demonstrated through his actions the very qualities we all strive to achieve in life, his honor was unquestionable, his bravery unyeilding, his faith and dedication obvious to any one who spoke with him or merely came in contact with him. A true son of God and servant to his will. No man could ever think of a negative thought of Darryl as his actions and his word were true and from the heart. A kinder man there has not been. A brother in Arms and friend in my heart and true christian, he will be missed from our presence, My family and I celebrate in the fact we were so blessed to have known Darryl Booker, he surely had that effect on the many hearts he touched in his life. Bless you and the family on your loss, and be comforted in the thought that Darryl will watch over you all as he rests in the kingdom of heaven as the lord has provided a place for his son in the heavens.

I apologize for the untimely condolence, I just found out this morning of Darryls passing.

I served with Darryl in the 2-224th here in Richmond. He took me under his wing as a young officer right out of flight school and taught me a lot; not just about the job but, about life. Looking back, I wish I would have taken the time to tell him thank you for making me a better officer and most importantly showing me the way to become a better man of faith.

Thank you for everything you have done. Brother you will surely be missed.

What a blessing Darryl was and continues to be. Virgil worked side by side with Darryl in flight operations in Sandston. I don't know how many times he would come home and talk about Darryl, and how muched he loved and admired him. He truly was Virgils hero. Not just because he was a good man and a good friend, but because he truly loved the Lord and his actions and words showed it. Whenever I talked to Darryl he always treated me with respect and always had kind words. Virgil and I are just heart stricken. But you know what, I know that I know that I know that Darryl is standing and facing our Precious Savior and oh how happy he must be. If we can live the rest of our lives by the way Darryl lived his, then his work on earth was truly accomplished. What an insperation he was and still is and always will be. Virgil and I are keeping you in our prayers. Because you are a woman of the Lord, I know he is with you and I know you have given this to Him. Darryl touched so many lives and if we look to the heavens and to God, I know he will continue to touch us. God Bless You and your family.

To the Booker Family,

I had the pleasure of knowing Daryl in high school, he use to sit in front of me and hide me while I took naps in History class. He was always smiling and laughing. You could always count on him for a smile or something silly to come out of his mouth. I haven't seen or talked to him in a very long time, and it broke my heart to hear he is now with God. I will miss him, as I always have and will continue to pray for his wife and children, also Andre and the rest of the family. May you continue to pray, and never let go of Gods unchanging hand.

To the family, friends and loved ones of Darryl Booker,
Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice for freedom. It was a price that you never wanted to pay. Your husband, son and father was an American hero. I know that this time is very difficult for you. It seems like a nightmare that you just can't wake from. I understand because my son was recently killed in Iraq. Not a day goes by that you won't lean on God for comfort and strength. You will let Him carry you through the darkest hours and days because you can't get through it alone. Jeremiah 29: 11-13 has given me some comfort and I hope it does you also. May God bless you and continually comfort you.

To the Booker Family,

I never had the honor of meeting SSGT Booker or his family. However my daughter attends Bailey Bridge Middle with Dante and they have been good friends for a few years now. You all have been on our minds and hearts since we learned of your loss. We would like to express our heartfelt condolences and offer ourselves to you if there is anything that we can do to be a blessing to you. Our God is an awesome God and He said in his word that He will never leave you nor forsake you. God bless you.

My deepest sympathy is with your family during this time. I remember Darryl and his family being tenants of mine when I worked at one of the apartment communities that they resided in. He was always such a delight and always had a smile and a kind word to say.

To The Family,

I did not know SSG Booker but his legacy he leaves behind will live forever. After coming to 2/224 SSG Booker's name always came with a story of his love of his beautiful family, countless stories of how he ministered to people and sets an example for us all to follow. In your times of pain and loneliness know that he watches over you still and the love for his family and God was never changing. It is not how long you live, but how you live and the lives you touch in that time. I know the numbers of lives he touched and lead to God is countless. Stay prayed up and God will guide you through this troubled time.

God Bless

To The Family of Sgt. Darryl Booker
I worked with Darryl at the Deep Meadow Correctional and our offices were side by side. He was a joy to meet and a joy has gone on to meet his father. He always had that smile, kind word and knew the Lord. He will be missed and God is where you will find your comfort. It was a hurting thing for me to find out that he had left us here on earth but a joy to know that he is with our Father in Heaven.

To the family of Darryl Booker,
It was Darryl's passion for basketball that we crossed paths. After playing in the Chesterfield County league he decided to take on the task of putting his own league together. He would email me or call me during the start of the seasons to give me "updates" on the status of the teams. He did get the league going and it was going strong for several seasons. We were to continue his league this past fall when he called to say he was heading to Iraqi. His last words to me were we will start up again as soon as I get back. The Thursday basketball league at Chester Middle School will always be the Darryl Booker League. My thoughts are with you. Darryl was a super guy who will be missed!!
