Angel Rosa Obituary

Lance Cpl. Angel Rosa, 21
SOUTH PORTLAND -- Lance Corporal Angel Rosa, age 21, of South Portland, died March 13, 2007, while serving his country. He died as a result of wounds received while conducting combat operations in Al Anbar province, Iraq. Angel was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. Lance Corporal Angel Rosa was posthumously promoted from Private First Class to Lance Corporal. Lance Corporal Angel Rosa's awards include the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the National Defense Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, and the Global War on Terrorsim Service Medal.
Angel was born July 20, 1985. Angel attended South Portland schools where he excelled in athletics at South Portland High School. Angel excelled at baseball, basketball, and soccer, where he played the position of sweeper and was Captain of his soccer team in his Senior year. His former coaches and teammates remember Angel not only as an outstanding athlete, but also as a dedicated leader and dear friend. Angel was never afraid to challenge himself, to push himself beyond his limits, at what he chose to do.
Angel was exceptionally proud of his Puerto Rican heritage.
After graduating from South Portland High School in 2004, Angel was employed by several local businesses, and in 2004 met the love of his life, Elise. They were married in 2006.
He enlisted in the Marine Corps to serve his country, while aspiring to make a better life for himself and his family.
Angel will be remembered as a man who touched everyone's lives, a man who inspired us to be better all around, with a smile that could melt anyone's heart and brighten up a day. He truly was our angel. Now more than ever he will be watching over us. We will keep him alive through the lasting impression he left on us all. We love you, Angel, and will continue to love you forever.
Angel is survived by his wife, Elise Rosa, of Standish; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bradbury, and his sister Mariemill Giordano, of South Portland; his two grandmothers and one grandfather; by several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and cousins; plus many loving friends.
A public funeral Mass and memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church, Mellen and Sherman Streets, in Portland. Arrangements by Hobbs Funeral Home, South Portland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Boys and Girls Club of South Portland.

To the family of Angel Rosa: My name is Victoria, I am a college student in Southern California. As an assignment I was asked to go on the NewYorkTimes website and "reserach" one of the fallen soldiers. Angel was the soldier I chose, 100% randomly, and I must say while learning about his life and reading of his unfortunate death, I have felt much grief. He seems to have been a wonderful young man. The reason for my commenting this post is to let you know that your Angel is not forgotten, his memory, his presence and his service to our country will always be remembered.

Life is like a game of dice - sometimes lucky many times unfair.
The loss of life just when it is beginning in real terms, is a life robbed.
As an Australian who lost relatives in two World Wars and others injured in other conflicts
I sympathise with you.

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines

Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full

We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward

What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives

Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us

They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of lives that were lost for people unknown

Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

Elise,
I don't know where to begin to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. I coached Angel when he played baseball at Memorial his 8th grade year. He was my favorite; a born leader. I also subbed him in school during his 8th grade and freshman year at South Portland. Angel would always find me when I was subbing and say, "Hey coach, can you give me a pass so I can come hang out with you during study hall?" And of course I always did. Angel and I would talk about how, after graduating, he wanted to become a police officer, because that way he could help people. See, Angel knew I was an ex-cop and he wanted to hear all the stories I had about how I helped people, especially children. I hadn't seen Angel since his freshman year, but when I read the article in the Portland Press Herald about how he wanted to become a police officer or a fireman after the Marines, I cried even more knowing that his destiny was already written of that of a hero helping people. I have a picture of Angel on my refrigerator and everyday I point him out to my 7 year old and 18 month old sons as daddy's hero! I will never forget Angel and will pray for the two of you every chance I get!

GOD Bless you Elise!

Those we have loved and cherished, are closer than we know.

It is the brilliance of their souls that makes our night sky glow.

Another Fallen Hero ~

My heart breaks as I sign this guestbook of such a courageous soldier who gave his life so selflessly. May he rest in peace knowing that he is loved and remembered by those who knew him, as well as strangers who admired his courage and sacrifice. God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and made the ultimate sacrifice.

We understand what you are experiencing and feeling. No amount of words can ease the pain of your loss. We know first hand there are no words of comfort at this time. We lost our only son 9-3-2004 at the age of 19 and it fells like yesterday. Just know that there are Marine families across the USA who is experiencing your loss and pain. You are not alone. We will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes.

My deepest condolences and prayers go out to the entire family. May God grant you peace, strength and comfort in such a difficult time. I will keep your family in my prayers along with all the families of our American Hero’s.

Angel, My family and I are thankful for the Bravery, Courage, Determination and Service, for your true dedication in protecting and serving our country (our freedom) from you, my son and all the others in our armed forces for the sacrifice made for us. You all will not be forgotten.

We also have a Marine daughter and Marine son-in-law. I still fly my Marine flag and have my Marine tag and sticker on my vehicles because I'm PROUD of my SON and all the MARINE MEN and WOMEN out there. I will always be a MARINE. We are proud of you all. “Land of the Free, Because of the Brave”

Thank you Legacy.com for setting up this website so families can quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves across this great nation.

My prayers are with your family. Though I don't know all of you, I am a very good friend of Maribel in PA. As I know she is a woman of honor and has a great heart and compassion for everyone she meets, I am certain the same applies to all who are in her family.
I will pray that you all get thru this and that God be with you in your time of need.
