I knew Dale throughout Jr. High and Highschool. It seemed like we always had a class together. I recently learned of his service and sacrifice. I wanted to pass along my condolences and say what an upstanding man he was during the time that I knew him. He always had a smile on his face and often pointed me in the right direction when I was about to go overboard with a joke.
I cannot remember a particular moment or time that stands out with Dale, but I can remember how nice and caring he was.
I thank you for his service to the country and hope that you know how many lifes he touched.

You are probably feeling helpless today because you can't just console us or make us laugh to take all the pain we are feeling away. Well rest assured you have made me smile today and do from time to time all year through. I think about everything we all have been through together, I think about that ruck march where I walked behind you all and made you keep your time before air assault school. I think about when you use to come home with Ant to Florida and us all going out to Flagler together. My point is that you have never left us and you are continually making us smile but we are going to hurt because we miss and love you so. You're always on my mind and in my heart.

28 April 2007 , a day some of us will never forget. A brother in arms, a trusted friend, into battle they go together, once again. Just another day, just another mission. Though try as they may with all their might, something tragic would happen, nothing would go right. Telling jokes, cutting up on the net, trying to displace all their feelings of imminent threat. A huge blast, smoke, and dirt filled air, shots fired, our men left in despair. For on this day, great men gave their life, they paid the ultimate sacrifice. Gone but not forgotten, fallen but flying high, our brothers in arms return home. Their mission complete, time to rest in peace, your brothers will drive on! I wrote this about you and Anthony, it was your second deployment together and I wish to hell you were here. I think of you often, you'll always be in my heart. Wish you were here with us but it gives me great peace of mind knowing that such a brave, courageous, and caring man is up their watching over all of us.

You're weighing heavy on my heart tonight. I find myself thinking of you and that great smile and all the good times and bad that you, Anthony, and I have shared. Tears of sadness run down my face because you're gone but of happiness because I knew you and you made an impact in both Anthony's and my life! We love you and you'll always live on through us!

I did not know Dale all that well. He sat next to each other in High School and talked on many occasions. I always remember his smile and how he seemed stoic, which is not something you see much in a high school student. Dale brought this war home to many of us who knew him. His sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Dale,
I remember you and will miss you.

Dale, we really don't know why you can't be here to see the little brothers are growing up and remind the Parents that THEY are so spoiled!
Or why you aren't around to bring mothers' Day flowers to your mom or hang with your dad, brother David, or the many friends and especially your fellow soldiers who miss you terribly.
And where are you for Samantha whose sorrow at your loss will it ever cease?
But we trust you do have the answers and we remember you on this birthday brave soldier(whom I never got to meet) and the words you lived by, and the sacrifice you made. "Whatever It Takes"

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Glenn, but I am remembering his service.

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Glenn,Susan,David,John,Samuel I still feel this is just a bad dream.I cant even imagine the sorrow that you all are going through. From talking with you I can see that you are using the energy to help others.I am very proud of Dale. I remember Dale and I standing outside at Mom/Dads after he got out of boot. I shook his hand & thanked him. He asked for what. I told him for serving our country and alowing us to have the freedom that we have. He told me well I havent done anything.Dale just wearing that uniform said it all. Dale you paid the ultmate price for all of us for us to have the freedom to post this and to do anything our hearts desire. To be able to vote for leaders to lead us in the right direction. So all readers remember what Dale has done for us. Dont just go in and push a button next election study the canadates review their backgrounds decide on a leader with the American people in his/her mind/heart.The service was the most beautiful event i have ever witnessed.I was so touched. It made me proud to be an American. This is so hard to write.Tears stream down my cheeks as i do so.Thank you Glenn,Susan for letting me honor Dale the way I did. I felt so honored and proud to do so.To see the people standing watching as we rode by I hope that it touched at least "one" if so then Dale has done way more than we know.Again thank you very much Dale. Dear Hicks Family and Samantha Criswell,

Although we did not know Glenn Dale Hicks Jr., or you personaly, while reading about his career, family, and friends, I discovered the name Doskocil, Susan. Our son, Kevin, is a friend and fellow student of Kevin Doskocil and when our son speaks of your cousin, Kevin, he always adds his full name. Especially when our Kevin is labeling photos. Because of this, I became quiet familiar with your cousin Kevin's full name.
Due partly to this, I wanted to write to you and let you know since learning about Glenn Dale, we have been keeping all your Family in our thoughts and prayers.
In addition, it is a Wonderful Tribute for Glenn Dale's Service in the U.S. Army to our Wonderful Country for our Freedoms that he shall be Honored by the City of Pantego on Memorial Day, also.
I am hopeful that this Memorial Day Service may continue to be of some help and comfort for each of you in the days and weeks ahead, also.
We shall continue to keep all of you in our thoughts and prayers,

Charlie B. "Charla", Jim, and Kevin Keathley

Dear Glenn, Susan and boys,
I am so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my (and so many others) prayers. I thank you for supporting Dale's decision to enter the military and want you to know how proud and honored I am to speak his name. Glenn, although my brother Ken may never be able to tell you, know that Dale has always held a special place in his heart.

Condolences are not enough, when there is a death of a soldier, especially one close to home, a friend, or a family member And, words alone can not express what is felt for those grieving over the loss of a much loved one. At such times as these, a hug is so much more meaningful or a helping hand.
But as a stranger, who has lost a twenty year old son, and one who is deeply gratified for the sacrifices made by this young man, his comrades, and his family, my heart goes out to you and may God give you the strength with each passing day.

Hi there, My name is Heather Shuta and Hicks is like a brother to me. He and my husband Anthony Shuta joined the military at the same time. They did basic, Ait, and then off to ft. benning together. We always had a lot of fun together and I coined him Harry potter when he wears his glasses. He is a great soldier and friend. My husband is proud to have served with him in OIF III and now. He will always live through our memories and is greatly missed. My thoughts and prays are with you.

To Susan, Glenn and family;

We are deeply sorry for all that we have lost, I know it is hardest now. I will remeber Dale as when we where young, curious and without any worries. We had many good times riding our bikes around Arlington and Pantego trying to find something fun and exciting to do. He was the best friend a guy could have growing up. I will miss all the good times we had and the ones we never got to have.

Please know that we will always remember him as the carring, great, funny guy he was, and he will always be in our hearts. Our deepest sympathy goes out to all of your family and friends.

We will pray for you and your family. We love you all.

To the family of Dale Hicks,
I am Allison Dean's mom. Allison worked with Dale at Johnny Carino's in College Station. She is also a friend of Colte Koen. My heart overflows with sorrow for your loss. When Allison told me about Dale's death, I was compelled to read all I could about Dale. Just reading the obituary and his accomplishments in his military life, made me so proud to know of such a fine young man who felt the need to serve this great country. You can be proud of him and his love of duty and service and his love of his fellow soldiers. It takes a special person to take on such a noble calling and responsibility and we are so thankful for his service. His ultimate sacrifice pains me immensely, even though I did not know him personally, and I felt the need to share with you how much I am thinking of you and your family at this time and I pray God's comfort and blessing on your life as you mourn the loss of Dale.
Sincerely, Becky Dean

Dearest Hicks Family,
There are no words to express the sadness and loss you must be feeling. Please know that you are never alone for a moment in your grief. There are those of us who did not have the honor of knowing your son, but will forever remember his sacrifice and yours for our country. My son was a Freshman at AHS when yours was a Senior. He is now a Combat Medic stationed at Fort Hood. I pray daily for his safety in deployment with the 4th IDand I will keep your son's memory in those prayers. God Bless your family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I don't know who wrote the following, but I hope it helps to ease you pain.

“Only two people have ever offered to die for you. One was Jesus Christ and the other is the American GI. One died for your soul, the other died for your freedom."

May 4, 2007

Dear Family,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you. So many others have said it better, but we are sure that your loved one lies with the Lord, having defended our freedoms to the end.
