Today your classmates from JCCH talked and remembered you as we all posted things, times, memories we had with you. Your smile was a welcome sight during a rough time for me. Never will we forget you. I have been an army wife for nearly 15 years and while I have known others that have been killed in combat, yours sticks with me like no other. Your the only one I knew before the military life. My boys know of you, my family knows of you. Thank you for being a friend then and a hero forever. We love you Nick.

Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Nicholas R. Walsh US Marine Sergeant. To Flynn and the Walsh family, have a wonderful and blessed Christmas. Sgt. Walsh was a true hero, and I'm so thankful for his sacrifice, and those of all of our servicemen. I wish I'd had the honor of meeting him.

You have all been in my prayers since 2007, when I worked with Flynn during that summer. I just happened upon this site while surfing in NY Times archives--what a touching coincidence. One of my brothers is enlisted in the army now, and it's courageous men like Sgt. Walsh who continue to inspire him, and us all. Merry Christmas, and may God bless you with peace and wonderful memories.

P.S. here's the site from the NY Times, just in case you haven't seen it. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/us/faces-of-the-dead.html#/walsh_nicholas_r . One of my friends helped create it, and I think it's one of the most powerful memorials I've ever seen.

Dear Family of Sgt. Nicholas R. Walsh,

We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.

Very Sincerely

Frank G. Noyes

May 26, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Nicholas, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Reading the paper one Sunday morning in May I saw the amazing photo of Julie, Triston and Jerry Walsh at the funeral of Marine Sgt. Nicholas Walsh. Triston is hugging the folded American flag from his father’s casket. Jerry, his grandfather is holding Triston and Julie bows her head in grief.

I clipped the photo from the paper and since then it is where I see it everyday and I am reminded of this family’s sacrifice. I have not known anyone personally who has died or lost a loved one in this war and so for me the war has not become personal. That is until this year. Sgt. Walsh and his family are constantly in my prayers, especially as their first Christmas without him approaches. I have shared with many people why I have this photo as a reminder of this family’s sacrifice.

Sgt. Walsh has attached a face, family and name to this war for me. Thank you Nicholas. Thank you Walsh family. Your sacrifice has not gone unnoticed. From a very grateful citizen, thank you and God bless.

Another Fallen Hero ~

My heart breaks as I sign another guestbook of such a courageous soldier who gave his life so selflessly. May he rest in peace knowing that he is loved and remembered by those who knew him. God Bless this soldier and his family who gave all and made the ultimate sacrifice. May God grant you peace, strength and comfort in such a difficult time. My deepest condolences and prayers are with the entire family.

We understand what you are experiencing and feeling. No amount of words can ease the pain of your loss. We know first hand there are no words of comfort at this time. We lost our only son 9-3-2004 at the age of 19 and it fells like yesterday. Just know that there are Marines and families across the USA who is experiencing your loss and pain. You are not alone. We will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes.

I still fly my Marine flag and have my Marine tag and sticker on my vehicles because I'm PROUD of my SON and DAUGHTER, and all the SERVICE MEN and WOMEN out there. We will always be a MARINE. We are proud of you all. “Land of the Free, Because of the Brave”

I am writing to offer my condolences to you and your family over the loss of your son Sgt Nicholas R Walsh. I lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a child.

When things settle down, I recommend that you contact a man named Michael Reagan @
www.michaelgreaganartist.com

He will draw one portrait of the fallen soldier. He does this for free and will draw any picture of your choosing. He has drawn presidents and other celebrities. My husband and I got one and it has helped me with the healing process. Michael is a truly gifted artist that captures the very essence of the person he draws. I look at my picture everyday and it gives me a connection that I cannot explain.

I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines

Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full

We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward

What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives

Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us

They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of lives that were lost for people unknown

Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

To the Walsh family--
I hurt inside whenever one of our brothers or sisters fall. Our pain can not be compared to yours, nor should it be. But I garantee that I am just as proud of your son as you are, even though I never knew him. I don't know whether you were in favor of him going into the Marines or not, but I know that you supported him as a person and as a son. The Marines are a proud group of people--trained beyond reproach and willing to defend the freedom of others. You will miss your son, I know. But remember that a part of him is still here with you and always will be. Keep that memory alive in spirit and in action and he will be around you. I am currently in the Air Force in Ohio. Otherwise, I would be at his service and his funeral. Myself, and my family, will be there in spirit. Our hopes and our prayers for you and your family. From one military family to another, we thank your son for his service and honor the life that he lived. Like Matthew Wyatt, also from Millstadt and killed in action, Nicholas will be remembered. He will hold a special place in our hearts as only a soldier can do. Be brave, for so was he. Semper Fidelis. James E. and Aubrey Parris
