Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Zachary A. Grass US Army Corporal.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

My name is Tekelia Barnett, and I'm a Recruiter (OEF-A & OIF) for a company called Mission Essential Personnel. We are the primary government contractor that employs linguists in Afghanistan. We also deploy linguists for the military all over the world; including Iraq. Everyday our department honors a fallen hero. Today I honored your son. I spoke about Spc. Grass because his story was truly heartfelt, and I believed he deserved the acknowledgement for all of his accomplishments. He will not be forgotten. God Bless your family and God Bless America.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Zachary, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I went to school with Zach, and grew up in wilmot. Zach was always one to go out of his way and make friends. I want to say something that will help ease everyone's pain, but Theres nothing i can say.

He died trying to make the world a better place, how many other people can say that.

Zach Grass was the first person I heard my brother talk about when he came home on leave after basic. I remember thinking "That is such a cool name." I heard many stories about him and eventually formed the opinion that he must be a real cool guy. When I heard about Zachary passing, my heart broke in two. I grieved for not only his military friends, but mostly his family. Just know that I still pray for you each night before bed asking God to be with you and make it just a little easier day after day. God Bless.

Rest In Peace

Father we entrust our brother Zachary to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Zachary in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

Im so sorry it took me so long to be able to do this. Zach was a good friend of mine, and a good friend of my husband. Before I got married, and even after, Zach and I hung out quite a few times. He was an awesome person, he had a lot of heart, he was funny, charismatic, he was an all around good guy, and a great friend. Zach lived almost directly above me in the barracks for a while. We used to all party together, we'd go out on double dates (when he was dating one of my mutual friends) Every minute I got to spend with Grass Im thankful for. Its hard to let go of the ones you love, but I wouldnt take back the memories for anything in the world. Zachary Grass is greatly missed, by myself, my husband, all of 2/12 FA, and the whole brigade. Its true what they say though... God hand selects his angels, and I can see why he wanted Grass. Im sure one day we'll see him again, when I do, I'll finally be able to tell him he is truely a Hero. I just wish I could have said goodbye one last time. God Bless Grass! You'll always be in our hearts and you will be forever missed. It was an honor to serve with you. It was an honor to be your friend.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Kenny and Jane, You probably don't remember me, but I knew Zach a long time ago. My memories of him are from baseball. I really don't think that I can find the words to tell you how deeply I feel for you because you have realized my worst nightmare. My husband has been deployed twice since 9\11, and is currently serving as a drill sergeant at Fort Benning in GA. There have been days during his deployments when I have been afraid to come home for fear that they would be waiting in my driveway. I have been to many memorial services, but none have touched me as closely as this. Mom and Bill wouldn't even tell me until I asked about the signs last weekend when I was home. My husband is due to return to Iraq in February. I have to believe that there is purpose in this. I want to be angry that my daughter barely knows her father, but I know that my husband has made a conscious choice to join the Army. I know that he loves this country, and I am certain that Zach did as well. Please find peace that his death is not in vain.

I am overwhelmed by your sacrifice, and I hope that you can find peace in the fact that Zach died in support of his country.

When I heard Zach's name, I was immediately taken back to memories of a much scrawnier Zach Grass who sat in my 7th grade study hall. I don't remember all the students I had (especially in study hall), but Zach stood out because he was so fun-loving! What a good-looking and fine young man he became! I am sure you are so proud of him, and I wish to send heart-felt sympathy for your horrible loss. God's blessings to your family!

Dear Grass Family,
I did not know your son but felt compelled to write you.
I have been in the Canal Fulton area on business for the past month and as I left today for my drive back to North Carolina, I passed through your town.
First I noticed a man in front of the school standing alone holding a sign that said "Save Our School", then a couple walking past some shops that waved to a passer by whom in return waved back from their car.
I thought of what a nice small quaint town my travels had taken me through where everyone knows everyone as their neighbor, something unfortunately we only see played out in the movies anymore.
It was refreshing to see that such a place still existed.
Then I started noticing that all of the signs thru your small town has the same message. "God Bless The Grass Family" & how you are in everyone's thoughts and prayers. They also mentioned what a hero Zack was. It struck me so much that I made a mental note to remember the name of this close knit town as well as your sons name and came home to look it up online tonight only to be further touched by the love of your community as they hold their open arms out to you as a blanket one by one to help comfort you with love and kindness during your time of need. I am very touched by it all and wanted to let you know how reading about your son had extended out past your special community to touch another heart. I am sorry for your pain and wish to offer my condolences as well as thank your son for having the courage to stand up for us all.

God Bless You & Your Family In Your Time of Need......

Sincerely,

June 29, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

My Deepest Sympothy and Prayers go out to all the friends, family and all those still over in Iraq. Zach was a great guy and great school mate. It hurts when someone we all know and love will never be able to be seen again at the local carnival or football games or any where. I have lost many friends in this war of terror but non have hit me like this one. seeing the whole town with flag's out and sign's in yards truly shows me how strong of a comunity we all live in and can come together in a time of need!

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

I never really know how to put into words my feelings about a fallen hero, so bare with me. The passing of a fellow Soldier causes me great grief and remorse. But I do believe he now walks on the right hand of God and rests with other fallen Heroes of long ago. My condolences to family and friends, know that his passing was not invane.

Frank, Patty, and Ben
Words cannot express how sorry we are to here about the death of your son and brother Zachary. Within the last week we went through this horrible tragedy with the Endlich family. Our daughter was born on May 16, 1985 and I can't imagine losing her. I can remember when those two were born we would take them to the ballpark and they would be in strollers while Ben would be playing in the dirt while Paul and Frank would be playing ball. Your family will always be in our thoughts and prayers. Thank you for allowing Zach and Ben to serve this country. God Bless you!

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routines, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
