I still think of Jon throughout the year, but especially around Memorial Day. He's a good man that I look forward to seeing again. Maybe then I'll understand sparsely populated data array analysis (but I doubt it).

Today and everyday we think of you. Our hearts still weep with your passing but our memories still smile with the laughter you gave us. Loving you still and know that we will meet again. You have a new grandson. He is named after you. His smile brings such joy to our hearts. I know you are part of that smile. Until we meet again my love. I will walk the beaches of Monterey in my heart forever. All my love. Jeannie

With Veterans Day fast closing in, I could not help of but think of comrades lost. Col. Lockey's loss was the toughest of them all. He was a mentor to so many of us back in Italy. Many a weekend I sent with him on A-side/B-side, I learned a lot from him. I hope all of you are doing well!

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Jon, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

To the family and friends of Col. Lockey,I cannot express in words what an effect Jon had on all of us back when he was stationed with us in Italy.
Jon Lockey was the standard that I held every officer too. Rare did anyone ever equal him, and none ever exceeded him. I spent many a night with him back in Oderzo, Italy when he was LT. He was an inspireing officer then, and as I read on he was to everyone else after he left the 12th.

I met COL Lockey while working at the Biometrics Task Force. He was a friendly, brilliant leader who knew how to get the best out of his team. He fostered a climate of ideas where everyone enjoyed coming to work and being a part of something so ground breaking. Yet Jon always kept perspective to not take work too seriously and enjoy life. His passing is the loss of a great talent to the Army and Nation.

My interpersonal dealings with Jon were rich, not only from the perspective of my professional interactions with him, but also from the personal exchanges we shared relative to his value system that he integrated into his daily activities. For those who knew Jon in this manner, the light he projected was inspirational and his impact on our lives was heartfelt.

Jon was a Great American and Soldier. We that had the opportunity to work with Jon on the FAST Project, quickly recognized that he had exceptional insight into analytical processes of the future for the military services. He was a brilliant individual with vision. During the moments of freedom from work, his focus was on family, friends and his horses. He was one of the individuals the convinced me to purchase the Ford truck that I now drive. He talked about all the trips that he had taken pulling his horses around America.
Jon will be missed by all that knew him. My prayers go out to the Lockey family. Jon lives on in all the people that he touched and his work. God Bless an American Hero!

My heart breaks as I sign another guestbook of such a courageous soldier who gave his life so selflessly. May he rest in peace knowing that he is loved and remembered by those who knew him. To all who were part of Jon's life:
Nothing could ever be written, that would bring you comfort, over such a tragic loss!
Every conscious human life is a precious commodity that is unique & can never be duplicated or replaced... in Jon's case, it's my opinion, that he was an even greater value to the universe than most! Obviously he made a great impression, on everyone he came into contact with, the world over!
Colonel Jon Lockey was a person that others were magnetically drawn to... The choices that he made in life, and the things he strived to achieve inspired all. You could always sense that he really cared about everyone around him, even placing their needs before his. He was very intellectual, while at the same time approachable by ANYONE... He was the type of leader that didn't consider himself better than others... but instead, wanted to better others! Jon was a leader who people chose to follow, rather than a leader who only drew followers out of fear.
I believe Jon wasn't just working to create a better image of himself to others... but was honestly striving to create the kind of world that we all would truly want to live in... and because of that, we all view him as a larger than life legend! I truly would have looked forward to a future where Jon was THE leader who was setting the agenda for a better world... versus a great leader who was acting on other's agenda.
Jeannie, Steven, CJ... Hal, Pat, and Susan... I'm sure with all this dedication to others by Jon, there was never as much Jon to go around as each of you would have wished... There could never be enough memories to "fill the void!" The only thing any of us can do, is to make Jon proud by carrying on his legend... do all that you can do every day to make the universe around you a better place. Be that wonderful person that everyone else would love to be around... inspire others by your actions and care for them... When others ask what made you such a wonderful person, share with them the wonderful life experiences that you were blessed to be a part of... as part of Jon Lockey's life!!!
Jon you will be an inspiration to us always!

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

As a fellow soldier from Bakersfield, I am saddened by the news of the passing of COL Jon Lockey. I did not know him but I've walked in many of the same footsteps that he did. I currently serve in the Army Reserve as a LTC, and have commanded a Battalion in Kuwait a few years a go and have also spent some time in Baghdad.
