Hello. I just want to tell the family and friends of this wonderful man, son, hero, how I admire what he did. He became a soldier, he went through the training to protect us all, and he died doing just that. He made the ultimate sacrifice. He didn't have and for that I am truly sorry. He is a hero, like so many other men and women are. I hope your pains are eased and may they be replaced with pride, love, and peace. God bless you all and God bless you Matthew. May your soul be joyous and peaceful xoxo

I was in Infantry School with Medlicott, we ended up in the same unit but different companies so I never really got to know him well, but I remember him being a good dude. I hope his family knows how much good we did on that 2nd deployment in Habbaniyah, he didn't go in vein.

To the family of Matthew Medlicott, how terribly saddened I am to learn of Matthew's passing. I went to high school with Matthew's dad and Matthew's younger brother went to school with my daughter in Mundelein, IL. I just learned about Matthew while reading the paper today and learning that a flag had been presented to Bart Medlicott on Veteran's Day. What an incredibly courageous and selfless young man Matthew must have been and how intensely proud you must be of him. My deepest sympathy goes out to you Bart, and your family. Whether it's been 2 days or 20 years, he is missed and loved. He was indeed a HERO and I thank you and Matthew for his ultimate sacrifice to our country. He will never be forgotten. I pray your happy memories of Matthew bring you peace. God Bless.

To the Family and Friends,
I am so sorry to hear about another fallen Hero! I know there are no words that I can say to ease your pain! The loss of a child is something that is the most difficult thing to bare. We can only pray that one day we will be together again. I was told that if you stretch a piece of string a mile long and line that string with beads, the beads would resemble eternity. Life here on earth is equal to “only one bead”. We have only a short time here compared to the time we will spend in eternity with our loved ones. The only thing I can say is let faith keep you grounded in your life and hold on to your loved ones! This will help you through!I

This is what helps me get through my days, I too have lost. My son, Anthony entered into the Heavens to be with our Lord! We can never understand the reasons why our children would ever be taken from us. I pray that one day our pain will ease!
God Bless Your Family!

Dear Matthew's family,
I am Rogelio Ramirez sister and I have been thinking of your family knowing you were going through the same pain and grief as my family was/is. I read that you had a funeral for Matt on Tues Sept. 4. That is the same day we had layed my brother's body to rest. Rogelio was from 1/1 Charlie Co. 4th Platoon. When we were notified of Rogelio's death we were told another Marine lost his life also and I think it was Matt they were talking about. I am trying to piece all that we have heard in the past two weeks together. All this is so difficult to bear and I just wanted you to know that you have been in our thoughts and prayers. I am in hopes that my mother can get in contact with Matthew's parents. Please feel free to contact me. With much love and understanding, PMS Tina Cordero

I never got to meet "Big Matt," and only heard stories about him through his friends and loved ones, some of whom are in my family. Charles and "little" Matt were inspired by Matt's passion for life, and his dedication to the Marine Corps and our beloved country. Michelle and Mary considered him as one of their own, be it as a son or a grandson. As a fellow serviceman, and someone whose own family was affected by your loss, all I can do is offer you our most humble gratitude, and our most sincere condolences, for your loss. But I would also like you to remember that Matt was doing what he loved, and what he believed in. For that reason, his sacrifice - and yours - were not made in vain. You will remain in our prayers.

I don't have those answers but as another Gold Star Mother I do have emotional support to offer you when the time comes and you want to reach out for someone who has gone through this same loss. Sometimes it is just better to be able to talk, cry or vent to another and I want you to know that I'm here for you. God has blessed me with the strength to do this and I'm thankful for that. May God give you and your family the comfort you deserve and His healing power to restore your broken heart.

The Marines Prayer
Almighty Father, whose command is over all and whose love never fails, make me aware of Thy
presence and obedient to Thy will. Keep me true to my best self, guarding me against dishonesty in purpose in deed and helping me to live so that I can face my fellow Marines, my loved ones and Thee without shame or fear. Protect my family. Give me the will to do the work of a Marine and to accept my share of responsibilities with vigor and enthusiasm. Grant me the courage to be proficient in my daily performance. Keep me loyal and faithful to my superiors and to the duties my country and the Marine Corps have entrusted to me. Make me considerate of those committed to my leadership. Help me to wear my uniform with dignity, and let it remind me daily of the traditions which I must uphold.
If I am inclined to doubt; steady my faith; if I am tempted, make me strong to resist; if I should miss the mark, give me courage to try again. Guide me with the light of truth and grant me wisdom by which I may understand the answer to my prayer. Amen.

September 5, 2007

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

To the Fmaily of LCPL Medlicott:

My name is SGT WISHNIA, you probably know my name. I was you sons squad leader for the last deployment, with Chuck company. Lcpl Medlicott was one of the most hard working indiviauals that i have every lead. When i was first in charge of him, he didnt always get what i wanted right the first time but he learned and never quit. He was a great marine and it sadens me to have to write this. I said to your son, prior to me changing units, to be careful and remember what i taught him. Never to quit and to keep fighting and working to train those under you. To lead marines in a war is one of the hardest things anybody could do. I know that i always told him that you have to keep pushing through the hard times and take care of your marines. He gave the ultimate sacrifise to save his marines and take care of that, and for that he should be remebered as a great marine. I will be there in Houston on Mon and tues and hopefully can talk to you face and tell you some things you some has done. and what he was like out there.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Medlicott family of which there are many. Matthew said it best "We will fight them there or we will fight them here."

My Son, Tyler currently deployed to Iraq with the 1/1 Marines Alpha Company was so thankful to have the experience of his Sr. Marines on this his first tour. Nothing will ever replace your loss of Matt but I pray for some peace in the knowing that he was doing everything he wanted to do for his Country and fellow Marine Brothers.

May the Lord bring you peace in the loving memories that you will forever hold of your Son, Brother, and Grandson. A true American Hero...

My condolences and deepest sympathies go out to the Medlicott family. I had the pleasure of meeting and befriending Matt a few years ago before we joined the service. From the start he was one of the most committed soldiers I have ever met. He loved what he did and inspired me to be a better soldier.

“Remember Our Fallen Heroes”

If you look in the hearts of our heroes
You’ll see tears swelled with pride
Yet underneath there’s a shadow of sadness
For the Soldier no longer at their side.

Side by Side they served with honor
To God’s arms they go one by one
From the hearts of a grateful Nation
We remember our Daughters, our Sons.

Their selfless deeds have been many.
Blood’s been spilled in the sand for liberty.
Without hesitation they guarded our freedom
Over land, in the skies, on the sea.

They answered the cries of the hungry
Liberated those whom where suppressed.
Courageously they safeguarded our glory
With a loyalty that ceases to rest.

With love we pay homage to the fallen
These patriots, our heroes, our friends.
Who’ve paid the ultimate price for freedom
and the flag they chose to defend.

Their Service must never be forgotten
Their deaths won’t ever be in vain
We vow to look after their families
and hope our love will ease their pain.

This flag is to honor the fallen
As a reminder Freedom is not Free
These heroes gave their lives for their Country
They gave their lives for you and for me.

John 15:13-Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Your loved one gave the ultimate sacrifice in serving our Country. May he always be remembered for the honor and courage with which he fulfilled his duty--and for the love and joy he gave his family. With deepest sympathy

I had the pleasure of meeting Medlicott earlier this summer while visiting my daughter & her family in Camp Pendleton. My heart hurts for your loss, but there is pride for the service he gave. My son-in-law is also on his second tour, and we live with the fear of your reality every day. I have much admiration and respect for these young men (children still, really) and all that they give to our country so selflessly. May he rest in peace and may your hearts be lifted from sadness.
