I still remember the last time we bumped into each other at CP Dubs in August 07. You were so proud of the progress you were making as camp mayor of your FOB. I know it meant a lot to you because you had finally gotten to do some of the things we had talked about doing for the better part of a year. I still think of you every day.

I met Scott when he got on ground at Camp Blackhorse with his unit and CPT Pat Pelligrino. Being a cop myself, I had an instant connection with Scott. We would run into each other during our time in country as our missions crossed paths. The one thing I will always remember about Scott is thinking to myself, "is this guy ever mad or not smiling". Scott is the type you just can't help but like upon meeting him. Scott, you are missed. God loves cops.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Scott, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Your life of selflessness, service and happiness has inspired me to do my best (EVERYDAY) to make you as proud of me as I have always been as proud of you.
I continue to pray for your family and I know you are protecting them now with as much courage and conviction as you did while here with us all...
I can still hear you laugh, I hear the laughter you brought to others and I treasurer your spirit.
Rest in Peace my friend...
October 13, 2007
To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Another true Warrior in the "arena" goes down fighting...for his Country, his Family, his fellow Soldiers, and for himself...and another sad story. THIS was the "ultimate sacrifice", as we know it. A Soldier trying to help and defend his comrades during a gunfight. Scott would have never turned his back on any of us, and we all know that.
His son, Tyler - talks just like his Daddy. And Scott's daughter, Allie - is the most precious and beautiful little girl. You left behind some great kids, and a great Wife, in Leslie -a very strong Woman. Scott Ball was everything most Men strive to be, and never gain. He did it all, and had it all, but did it so graciously. You are missed terribly by many of us. You certainly touched a lot of Hearts...and in the end, you died with your Boots on Scott. It was a pleasure and Honor to know you, to work with you, and to laugh with you.

May God bring you peace in your heart as you reflect on all the wonderful memories you hold so close. Please know that you are in my heart and prayers. My heart was touched by the many wonderful/beautiful things written about you. Scott you are my hero and you will NEVER be forgotten.
I send each of you a hug from the most inner part of my heart.

Newcomer, III and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!

I only met Scott on one occasion. In a strange twist, that time was immediately following the funeral of TPR Rob Flaggs. Scott and I talked easily for over a half hour, and I was instantly impressed. It is a great sadness that we "met" for the second time under the cloud of sorrow. Although I add the regret of not knowing him better to my list, I will take solace in the knowledge of the kind of person, soldier, and trooper Scott strived to be. I am proud to have at least had one chance to shake his hand, and call him brother.

I would like to express my heart felt sympathy to the Ball Family. I did not know Scott, but husband, who is currently working in Jalalabad, Afghanistan worked with him and the fellow officers who were killed/hurt that day. I know the worry that comes with having a loved one so far away and in a dangerous land, but I also know the pride that we all have for those men and women who have volunteered to protect those who are unable to protect themselves. Scott was and will always be a hero.
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

I was fortunate enough to have met Scott several years ago when our career paths met and immediately, he stood out as someone who had a solid work ethic, a strong moral compass, complete devotion to his family and an infectious positive outlook on life.
He would often provide me words of encouragement or stop into my office and tell a goofy story that just seemed to lift my spirits and reset my mind. When you saw Scott enter the room, laughter and stories were not far behind.
Everyone at the Carlisle Station who was blessed to have worked with Scott will carry his memory in their minds and hearts like a sacred treasure.
This guy did more for his family, his friends, his community and his country in 38 years than most people manage to do in their entire lifetime and we would all be better off with a few more Scott R Balls in the world.
Thank you Scott for sharing your life with me and for enriching my life forever.

Scott was a special one of a kind guy. I find it amazing how many people's lives he touched and how these people describe Scott in the same way. He was always in a wonderful mood and never seemed to let problems get him down. I could be having the worst day at work and Scott would come in with the wide infectious smile. He would tell some funny story of what happened to him on his Patrol shift while accenting it with his laughter. The next thing I knew is that I would be smiling and laughing along with him.
We at the PSP Carlisle Barracks miss him greatly. He was truly a great person. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Leslie and your family.

Dear Leslie, Tyler and Ally, and Mrs. Ball, I only met Scott briefly as our guys prepared to leave Ft. Riley for Afghanistan. I have come to know him more over the past two days as so many people shared their beautiful memories. Looking at your photographs at the viewing I could see the joy you have as a family. You are so very blessed. Leslie, I pray that you find peace and strentgh in His love, and in Scott's love and from your family and friends. To the Ball family,
I hope this will help ease the pain.
His Journey's Just Begun
Don't think of him as gone away,
His journey's just begun;
Lige holds so many facets--
This Earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
From the sorrows and the tears
In a place of warmth and comfort
Where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
That we could know, today,
How nothing but our sadness
Can really pass away.
And think of him as living
In the hearts of those he touched...
For nothing loved is ever lost--
And he was loved so much.
My prayers are with you during this sadden hour and I pray that you find inner peace.
God bless you.

To Scott's family,
Scott is one of a kind. Scott always had a smile on his face, was quick to laugh and always had a joke at the ready. He is a true professional and a great friend.
Word of his passing was devastating to so many of us. This world is surely a sadder place without Scott here.
I can't even imagine the loss that your family feels, we lost a great man. I only hope that he can continue to live on within every one of us that knows him.
Keep a watchful eye over us Scott. You'll be greatly missed.

To the family of Scott Ball,
I am deeply saddened for your loss. I knew Scott from school, he was a great guy and he enjoyed making people laugh. I lost a cousin in December, he also was killed in Iraq and he also graduated from West Perry, its so unfortunate for all of us to lose so many wonderful people but its a blessing that we were able to know and love these individuals.
May God Bless all of you in this very difficult time.

I was on my way to work this morning and I heard a song on the radio I believe might be called "If you're reading this letter" about a soldier who did not come home and all I could do is cry and think of the heartbreak you must be feeling all over again today as you lay Scott to rest. I am proud to have know such a good and brave man. (Although growning up, I only saw him as my best friend's annoying big brother who picked on us all of the time!) I will hang on to that memory to make me smile. Even though we have not been in touch in such a long time, I just wanted to tell you that my heart, thoughts and prayers are with your family. God Bless Scott and God Bless you all.

To the family of Scott R. Ball, Trooper and Master Sergeant:
When we received the news of Scott’s death in Afghanistan, we were overcome with both shock and sadness. Scott was a selfless and compassionate man. He was unwavering in his commitment to his family, the Commonwealth, and Our Country.
He deservedly earned the admiration and gratitude of those who worked beside him. We are saddened that a man of his caliber was taken at such an early age, but we are all better people for knowing him. Scott will be missed.
Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children…For they are us… ~Albert Einstein
Your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.

To Leslie, Tyler and Allie;
I worked with Scott for a short time in the Lower Merion PD.
He was great to be around and always had a great story to tell.
I last saw Scott in the summer of 2005 when he escorted President Bush's motorcade to an event in L.M. We relived some (fun) memories and he glowed when he spoke about you.
Be rest assured, Scott always did the right thing.
He will be missed by those he touched or shared a moment with.
He was a good friend, colleague and I am blessed to have known him.
Our prayers are with your family and all who serve this great nation, here and abroad.

I am writing to offer my condolences to your family over the loss of your HERO Master Sgt Scott Ball. I lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a loved one so dear.
When things settle down, I recommend that you contact a man named Michael Reagan @
www.michaelgreaganartist.com
He will draw one portrait of the fallen soldier. He does this for free and will draw any picture of your choosing. He has drawn presidents and other celebrities. My husband and I got one and it has helped me with the healing process. Michael is a truly gifted artist that captures the very essence of the person he draws. I look at my picture everyday and it gives me a connection that I cannot explain.
I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.
Psalm 34:18
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit
GOD Bless you and your family. Your soldier was a true American Hero and we are all very proud of his service.
(Proud mother of Sgt Joel W. Lewis, 5/20, 3-2 SBCT -KIA May 6/07, Baqubah, Iraq)
