Not sure what to say?

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this month and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Patrick Daniel Magnani US Air Force Master Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

I did not know Patrick. I visited the Sacrameno Valley National Cemetary over the holidays and attended a memorial service for the veterans with my grandchildren whom were there to lay wreaths on the graves with many other volunteers. We listened to several speakers, one which asked us to research and learn about the person you are honoring. I read through many Stories about Patrick and was saddened to learn this soldier passed at such a young age and how painful it was for his family. It was an honor to participate at this event with my family and to learn a little bit about Patrick's life. God bless Patrick's soul and the family he left behind.

Pat, I have fond memories of working with you at RAF Upper Heyford. I met alot of interesting people during my career but truely you were one of the best. You always had a smile and a kind word for those around you and even though we lost touch over the years, we will forever be connected. Until we meet again, farewell my friend.

I was at the Memorial Service at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery on Monday May 25, 2009. They named 4 Veterens from the area that were buried there. When I heard the last name of Magnani, of course they pronounced it wrong, I told my friends that he must have been a relative. My maiden name was Magnani. My Dad's name was William Michael (Bill). I am wondering if we could be related?
My condolences to all of Patricks family and to let you know that he was a hero and that I am proud to have had the same name as him.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Patrick, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

My condolances to all the family. I am from Martinez and am very active with St. Catherine's Church in Martinez. I remember now when the Contra costa Times had all the information on Patrick last year. Now, I just finished reading about Patrick in the News Gazzette. My 2 children went to college Park and had graduated in 1978 and in 1981. My husband was a veteran of the Army in the conflict of Korea and he passed away Sept. 7, 2007 and my daughter, son and I go to the national cemetery in Dixon quite often and we were there this morning, Sun. May 25, 2008. If you would'nt mind, we would like to pay our respects to your son every time we go to visit my husband. Please let me know where the site is. my husband is in section 15. This is is a very sad time for us and as I am sure it is hard for you also. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. my e mail is [email protected] and my phone Number is 925 228 6188. Thank you. Genny

Pat, you are in a much better place than this crazy world we live in now. I remember when I met you at Ft. Riley - you were a positive role model for those of us that were unsure and scared of what lay ahead. I remember the day when you told me that you were going to Gardez and how we would meet up there...maybe for a beer or two ;-) Well, we know that never happened, but your presence in the moments that I knew you were of a kind, caring, positive, and always smiling person...I am sure those, especially your family, were blessed to have you in their lives for a much longer time.

God Bless You Pat and may your Memory Live Forever!

My condolences to the Magnani family. I went to College Park with Pat and Chris. I didn't hang around much with them but I can see his smile to this day, Pat was always positive and nice to everyone. I pray for your family and I am deeply, deeply touched by his service for my freedom. I am forever grateful to Pat and his family for their sacrifice. I am a twin and cannot imagine the loss, Chris. God bless you always.

I knew Pat only briefly while assigned at Aviano in spring 2007. He greatly impressed me for his dedication and clear thinking. One of my assignments involved setting up a complex safety program. Pat was critical to this in that he rapidly located the necessary analytical equipment and together we set up a calibration program in the most cost effective way. He cleared up single handedly a long delayed program. He enthusiastically showed up at my office which was several miles removed from his and handled everything. He was totally focused on getting the most for his country's needs.

As a parent of a son currently deployed and having deployed myself I treasure knowing and working with the focused and self-motivated people like Pat I have encountered over the years. I was and continue to be saddened by his loss.

Working with men and women of his caliber has been an honor to me and has kept me motivated to stay in the National Guard as long as I have.

Ahh, Pat. Crazy times at RAF Upper Heyford. The job, alerts, pubs, get-togethers at my house, general goofing off. Great times and memories I'll always remember, dude. You didn't just work for me, you were my bud, even though we lost touch after a while. Farewell, my friend, you done much good in your too brief stay here on earth.

Your heart is with mine, Master Sgt. Patrick Magnani. Though I never knew you, from the other entries I can see that you were a good and loving person. I wish i could've known you, but alas i could not. I thank you for protecting our country so others can live on, my heart also goes out to your family and friends. No one wants to lose a loved one, and I am sure they miss you dearly. However, know that God will always watch over your family and friends and that you will now be somewhere where you can watch over them as well. Your spirit will live on in the hearts you have touched, soldier or citizen. I will always remember you, Master Sgt. Patrick Magnani.

October 15, 2007

To the family of Master Sergeant Patrick Magnani,

Warmest greetings to all; my name is Chief Master Sergeant David Duenas. I had the pleasure and honor of meeting Pat when I arrived at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland, on July 9, 2004. That day, I was introduced to Pat by fellow biomedical equipment repair technicians, and we were immediately off to a wonderful friendship and professional relationship.

Pat and I connected the moment I stepped in the department. I was previously assigned to Travis Air Force Base, California, and I often spoke to him about how much I enjoyed the region. We had many talks about places in San Francisco, Sacramento, Reno, Tahoe, and the surrounding areas. On occasion, Pat and I would get together to ride mountain bikes, drink beers at a microbrewery, tour the local attractions, or simply hang out at his place. He was among the friendliest of people. His warm personality made him very easy to get along with.

At work, Pat was the epitome of what a professional Airman should be. Many junior staff looked up to him. He was extremely intelligent. His solid work ethic assured life-saving biomedical equipment was optimally maintained for all. He was frequently and routinely asked for, by name, to handle trouble calls. When Pat responded to any challenge, he would return with the issue completely resolved. He was always at the forefront.

I’ll forever cherish and remember Pat Magnani. I’ll always remember the wonderful discussions we’ve had. I will miss Pat. He was a great colleague, worker, and teacher. Most of all, he was a great friend and true professional.

Very sincerely,
David Duenas

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Pat,

You were amazing.
I always admired your zest for life.

You were energizing.
I felt happier whenever I saw you.

You are in our thoughts.
I still keep thinking I will soon hear about your next visit....our next barbeque at Mario's....our next night of laughter.

You are missed.
I wish I could see you one last time to tell you that, but there has to be a last time for all things. Your just came sooner than I wanted.

You are loved
....and that has to be enough.

My deepest condolences to the Magnani family. I had the pleasure of meeting Pat when I first arrived at Andrews AFB. He was on his way out to Korea and was getting rid of some of his things he had in his office. I had only spoke with him a few times in passing, but he was always upbeat and making people smile when ever he came up to Logistics. He noticed all of my 49er stuff that I had on my desk and made a comment about being from the bay area. I am from Stockton and have family all over the bay area so naturally I was a diehard niner fan. He offered me a 49er water bottle to add to my collection and I accepted. He was very cool and it was good to have a fellow Cali boy welcome me to the shop. That thing has been displayed on my desk ever since. As a matter of fact, I was just commenting to the guys in my shop about the Niner stuff all over my desk and how I had came across most of it. To make a long story short, I just found out this evening about Pat and I feel compelled to tell of my wonderful encounter with such a thoughtful and friendly man. You raised a perfect gentleman and I am so sorry for your loss. I will look upon that water bottle with a much different perspective than I did before. It is just a water bottle to most, but to me, it will serve as a reminder to due unto others as your Son, Brother, Uncle, etc did to me. Peace and prayers to you all, and may Pat rest in peace.

My prayers and condolences go out to Pat's family and friends. I was stationed with Pat at Andrews AFB and had the pleasure of serving with him in Iraq. I had the privilege of working with Pat at Andrews AFB. His wit and smile were infectious, although most couldn't keep up with him...LOL. His knowledge in the career field and grasp of the bigger picture made him a valuable contributor to the team but also a source of wisdom/advice for me personally. I always appreciated his passion for doing the right thing and his willingness to argue until I saw the wisdom of giving in... :)

My prayers and thoughts go out to his family and friends everywhere.

First and foremost my condolences to Pat's Mother, Father and siblings. Pat and I were stationed together at Beale AFB, CA. Pat, my wife and I organized shop poker games where many of our co-workers showed up and we ended up playing cards, drinking, laughing and sharing stories about all the places we had visited since joining the military. Pat always saw the brighter side of any situation. Sitting here looking at the picture of him on this website reminds me of the Pat I knew when we were both so young. I learned many positive things from Pat and am a better man for having known him.

To the Magnani Family,

I am very sorry for your loss, Pat was a wonderful person. I had the pleasure of working with him in Korea and at Aviano. Seeing his smile always made me smile a little harder. There were a few of us that became a "clique" coming from Korea and I'm pretty sure he was the glue that held us together. He always led the way, had the plan, told us to take a left, whatever. I hope it eases your heart to know that you could not have asked for a better son/brother, he was like a big brother to me and I will truly miss him.

I know we already posted in the guestbook, but my husband and I started talking about Pat last night after I broke the news to him and I wanted to share.
I remember we went to lunch with him at the Ghedi Restaurant and he ordered this dish that everyone either referred to as 20,000 leagues under the sea or seafood nightmare. It was a pasta dish that was served in a bowl and on top of all the pasta was all of these black shellfish, black shrimp, black crawdads, black shells, it truly was revolting. Of course, he loved it. He was showing my daughter who was three at the time his food and she got this horrified look on her face and said in disgust "Patton eats bugs." That's what she called him, Patton. When he came over for Thanksgiving we had her convinced we were serving bugs just for him, instead of turkey. I remember going to his house and teasing him about this telescope he had pointed out of the balcony doors, he jokingly said it was for a side hobby...... stalking. =O) I think of Pat everytime I hear some old 80's-or early 90's song on my IPod because I know it's there because of him, I'm always like, what's this crap? Then I'm like, oh yeah, Pat. He copied all of his downloaded music and gave it to us. I used to tease him about it, some of the stuff is really old, when I asked him about the really old stuff, he said that he downloaded it because it was the music his mom liked to listen to when he was a kid. My husband still emails back and forth with Pat and we were so shocked to hear that Pat had passed. Once again, I'm so sorry.

Our deepest sympathies to all in the Magnani family. Pat was such a great guy. I served with him for two years in Ghedi and he made those two years extremely enjoyable, I truly believe Pat could make anyone laugh, anytime. And of course with Pat, once a friend always a friend. I had the honor of knowing Pat during my tour @ Kunsan AB, Korea in 2006. The day I arrived in Korea was the day he was promoted to MSgt. So the first thing I did fresh off the plane was see Pat get promoted, I didn’t know him at that point but we became good friends. Pat and I also had several long bike rides and did a lot of talking and drank more than a few beers together. He was one of the nicest easy going people you could ever meet. When it came to his job he always made sure the job was done right and had no problems voicing his opinion if he thought something should be done a different way. Even though I only knew Pat for about 8 months I will always remember what a great person he was. Pat, may you rest in peace and I hope to see you on the other side.

I am so sorry for your loss. Pat was such a nice person. I knew Pat from working at the Ghedi BX. Each week we ordered enough milk for the whole base, and had to make sure we had enough for Pat's 2 or 3 gallons! He always had a smile on his face and would bring one to others'. He will be missed.

Our sincerest sympathy to your family for the loss of Patrick. My wife Autumn and I were both stationed with "Mag" in Italy, and we always recalled his warm smile and kind heart. Please accept my profound condolences for the loss of Pat.

Though I lost touch with the Magnanis when I moved away before junior high, I spent many years on little league teams with Pat & Chris, shared classes with them at Valhalla, and spent many fun days at the Magnani house on the corner.

My memories of Pat are etched in the amber of long ago, but to read how his life turned out and all of the laudatory words from those who did know him as an adult has helped me see how well he turned out, while making me sad not to have known him longer than I did.

As the grandson of a Navy man, I’ve always had the utmost respect for those who volunteer to defend our nation—and now, with two small boys of my own while battles rage across the globe, I appreciate even more the sacrifices so many brave souls make so that we can live freely and safely here at home.

I’ll always remember the Magnani home as a place of mild chaos but great joy, with friends of all four kids in and out at all hours—I remember thinking how fun it must have been to live there. When I heard of Pat’s passing, I was surprised how many memories of those years I could recall with clarity, even if I hadn’t thought of them in decades:

Sleepovers at their house, checking the standings in the morning paper as the Giants actually made a run in ’78, Pat’s laugh and smile, Mrs. Magnani driving a bunch of us to baseball practice or on newspaper pickup drives for the Cub Scouts in that old green van (with Chris and Pat not-so-secretly tossing her cigarettes out the sunroof).

I wish you all the best through this difficult time, but take comfort from the fact that you all know what a true hero Pat was, obviously loved and respected by so many.

Magnani Family,
Your family is in our thoughts and prayers. May God give you strength during this incredibly difficult time of sorrow.

I was stationed with Patrick at Aviano Air Base, Italy. He was running the BMET shop and my office was right down the hall from his where I managed deployment operations for our organization. I remember the day I got Pat's deployment tasking. He was very excited at the opportunity to deploy and do his part to fight the war on terrorism. We talked everyday about the mission, training, and all he'd experience. He knew working with the Army would face many challenges which we was ready to handle. Patrick was loved and cherished by all. His loss saddens so many. He was a dear friend to my wife Danita and I; we'll never forget the times we shared or his wonderful smile. My strength is in knowing one day I'll see him again in heaven.
My God be with your family.

My wife and I were deeply saddened to hear of Pat's passing. I have known Pat for 14 years. We were stationed together at Beale AFB in 1993. We worked in the same shop and all of us spent a lot of on and off duty time laughing and having fun. Pat was a very good friend. We kept in touch through email through the years. He sent us pictures of his deployment to Iraq sitting on Sadaam Hussein's throne. We will miss Pat and will keep his family lifted in prayer.

I was stationed with Pat at Ghedi AB in northern Italy, from Feb 2002 until he left to cross train. He made my wife and I feel so welcome from the very beginning and really enhanced our time there.

He was enthusiastic. He enjoyed life to the full. He enjoyed adventure, and was our resident tour guide, having traveled all over Europe and experienced so much.

He always kept us laughing, and brought such a fun-loving spirit to the work center. At the same time, he was one of the sharpest people I've ever worked with. He set quite an example with his conscientious work ethic, and his commitment to the mission and his coworkers.

From the Italian mensa to Belgian brew, I can thank Pat for many of my fondest memories from that assignment. He lived a selfless life, and he leaves this life as a hero. God comfort and bless you, his family. I will always remember Pat well.

I am deeply saddened by our loss – our loss because Pat was a tremendous human being amongst us. Pat possessed a great deal of enthusiasm – an infectious kind of enthusiasm – and optimism in life. He was, perhaps, one of the wittiest people I have ever known and I will never forget the shenanigans and pranks that he and I would pull in our high school ‘career’.

I regret that I found out too late about Pat’s death and I could not be with him and his family. Somehow, I think that I would have felt much better if I were there sharing my feeling and grieving with the Magnani family. If there is any silver lining in all the dark clouds it is this: Heaven has to be a much more interesting place with Pat taking up residence there.

I also regret that I didn’t communicate with Pat enough over the years. I hope that one day I will have been worthy enough to meet him again so that I could say hello and reminisce once more. I missed too many opportunities to do so when I had the chance.

For Pat only: good-bye for now, my brother. I’ll be on my best behavior so that we may have the chance to hang out again.

To the parents of Patrick, it's so very hard to loose you child and you have so very many questions that seem can never be answered. I know this personally as I too am a Gold Star Mother. God has given me the strength to reach out and help with emotional comfort when and if you ever want to talk, vent, cry or just share memories. May God give you the strength and comfort you need at this time in your life and may His Healing powers of love heal your soul.

My family extends the deepest condolences to the Magnani family, and everyone who was blessed to know Pat. He was a deep, warm person who could make anything better. My husband and I were lucky to work with him at Andrews AFB. One of my favorite memories was when he would all of a sudden start singing an excerpt from a song. My husband taught Pat a lot of on the job training. When we got stationed at Lakenheath, Pat soon came to Aviano. The following Thanksgiving, we came to visit him. He showed us around Venice and Lake Garda. That will always be our most treasured Thanksgiving memory. We will miss him deeply and think often of his family who must be incredibly proud of the wonderful man he is.

Norm and I were very saddened to learn of Pat's ultimate sacrifice for his country.

I'll always remember him as the little kid who didn't want to go to preschool. Wow! That was so long ago.

All Americans are indebted to our soldiers and their families for the freedoms we enjoy and I thank you for Pat's courageous service to the United States of America.

I pray that your family will find peace in the knowledge that Pat is with his loving heavenly father.

I am writing to offer my condolences to your family over the loss of your HERO Master Sgt Patrick Magnani. I lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a loved one so dear.

When things settle down, I recommend that you contact a man named Michael Reagan @
www.michaelgreaganartist.com

He will draw one portrait of the fallen soldier. He does this for free and will draw any picture of your choosing. He has drawn presidents and other celebrities. My husband and I got one and it has helped me with the healing process. Michael is a truly gifted artist that captures the very essence of the person he draws. I look at my picture everyday and it gives me a connection that I cannot explain.

I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.
