JlCpl. Javier Paredes, today's Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2024, and I'm memorializing your absence. You've been absent for 17 years, Mijo, and your personal, family circumstance has always haunted me. Why? Because you deserved to have lived out your life in substantial moments. You should've attended college after your tour, you should've been blessed with a loving relationship, you should've , you should've, and you should've... I hope Mijo that if reincarnation exists, that you've been reborn into a loving human existence. Thinking of you, always. Here it is, September 5, 2022 and I still remember you, though I didn't personally know you. I didn't have to know you to care about you. What would you be doing now, I wonder? But it's obvious that GOD had grander plans for you and I wonder where God has you roaming this earth of ours?

May your new life be brighter and filled with care, patience, love and humility.

I can believe 14 years has passed. A lot has changed but somethings will never change. My memory of that day in the elevator you told me how proud you were to have enlisted is so vivid. I can recall it as if it was yes to. I could see it was an opportunity for you to go and do something big. Such a bright and kind person the whole kitchen knew you were dependable and even as they hasseled you and gave you a hard time they were all rooting for you. The determination you had to help everyone impressed us all. On this anniversary of you passing I just want to acknowledge the power of the good in you , the good will you passed on to others. You are remembered.

On September 13th, 2008, I posted on this page about the flag & bio of a young medic I have, that had been placed in his memory the month before, by the first Fun For the Fallen, near Ferncliff, VA. I researched his history, to see if I could return this to a family member, but I have it still, on my desk at home. His life was never easy, but he never let that define him; he seemed to have found a calling in becoming an Army Medic, and seems to have been well-liked & appreciated by his Army family. This Memorial Day, I am thinking about this young man, who would be about 36 or so, now, had things gone differently.

Hello, my name is David Nichols. I was stationed with Javier at a combat outpost at the time of his falling. I did not know Javier well, but I would occasionally see him and we would engage in passing conversation.
When I first learned that we had lost several soldiers in combat, I did not realize that Javier was among them. But, I do remember one soldier, sitting near-by me, with his head down and seeming forlorn.
Days later I, along with many others, attended the base memorial service. When it was my opportunity, I marched forward to salute and pay my respects. That is when I realized that Javier had been among those who had fallen. I saw his framed picture and immediately began feeling so much sorrow and grief. Though I only knew him as an acquaintance, he was such a nice person. God bless you and R.I.P. Javier.

Hello, everyone. Another solemn year has gone by without Javier's presence.

Javier, your physical presence is no longer here with us presently, but we respect & honor your former life & how important life was to you and how much you meant to so many people. Some people you knew, and many you didn't.

If there is such a thing as an afterlife, I hope and pray that your new beginnings is full of love, nurturence, patience, kindness, light, faith and security.

In God's name I pray for you & the spirit of life & love that you left behind.

The last entry by M. Cavazos has impressed in me that "Javier's" life was so blessed with people that sincerely cared & loved him. His physical presence, the sound of his voice, his smile, are the sights & sounds that his family members & friends long for....just one more time.
Still we're left with the "whys" and the "what ifs," but all of these questions and answers we seek have left with Javier.

At the end of our day, we're left with the consolation that our psyche is able to accept-this has possibly been a dream~

As we lay our head down for sleep, we hope that God will allow each of us another tomorrow; we shall grieve less and celebrate Javier's contribution in the lives of many....

This is not "Goodbye," but we'll be "Seeing ya."

I rember you hustling around at C.M. always smiling and joking. I knew the day you told me you joined up that you were so proud. I remeber how excited you were. This was your shot to get out and you took it. Every day I try to take advantage of the chances I have had and I try to make every day count. I would like to thank you for your humbleness and sacrifice. I knew you would do your all in any situation and I am proud of you. You made a difference!!

Mom Peney

June 10, 2010

My dear Javier "Pez" - look for Jonathan. SGT Jonathan K Peney KIA 1 June 2010 mortally wounded while giving aid to save his fellow Ranger.

My son, SGT Jonathan K Peney (22), was killed in action on June 1st, 2010 at 1000 EST. Jon is an Army Ranger Medic. He has always wanted to be a solider. He loves our country. I love my son. The worse possible nightmare to a mother is to see the notification team walking towards you in full dress uniform. But what allows me to grieve is what stands behind those uniforms. I know my son was doing what he loved - protecting our freedoms!!!!! He did not hesitate to go to the aid of another fallen Ranger when a sniper mortally wounded my son. Jon comes home today and I cry not only because I will not see his face and mischief pranks but because most Americans don't understand "freedom is not free". Freedom is earned and respected. Freedom is a privilege. My son is a hero but to me he is my son and child. Jon will be missed but never forgotten. Jon and many others who give the ultimate sacrifice do so with pride and no regrets. God bless America and long may it's flag wave! God bless all who serve in the military.

I ask that each and everyone of you when you see an individual in uniform to acknowledge their presence. This can be done by simply place your right open hand over your heart as you walk by them. Pay for their cup of coffee. Pay for their meal - you don't have to let them know you are doing this kind gesture. Just ask your waitress to pay for them without any grand affair. Our military men and women do not receive enough recognition from us. They deserve kindness. I am a hugging person so I just usually walk up to them and give a hug. Handshakes are good. You never know if that solider sitting at the airport or walking down the street has just returned to our wonderful country from a war torn area. You don't know what those eyes and heart are carrying all for the sake of our freedoms! You don't know if that solider is going to war and doesn't know what to expect he will see. We all need to stand up PROUD to be an American and support our military. God Bless America and all who serve in our military.

My dear son - welcome home! You did not die in vain! I love you. Mom

Javier,
I remember your kind heart and your helpful nature; always looking out for others. I remember our chats as I took you to work--you worked so hard...whether busing dishes or saving lives. I remember your sense of humor and that smile that'd light up any gray day. My heart was full of joy and pride to watch you graduate and then to hear of your honorable service in the Army. You over came so many obstacles becoming such a fine young man.
Of my flesh you were not born, but to my soul you have been knit. Sleep sweet, my son; que suenos con los angelitos.

Ironic, as I'm reading Peggy Childers remembrance of Cpl. Javier Paredes, I too thought of him over the weekend. This young mans death has left an indelible mark in my memory. Maybe, it's due to his short life being marred with neglect. His birth should've been filled with the beauty of God's gift. I pray that his death was blessed with God's mercy.

Javier, you are a hero in this Mother's heart in Wisconsin (former San Antonian).

Paredes... I think about you throughout the day. I still wear your KIA bracelet. I remember when I found out, my head spun, I got sick and didn't want to beleive it. But mostly I remember how you always brought a smile with you and a level of energy that never diminished through thick and thin. The platoon took it hard as we gathered to share so many memories of you. Tears and laughter filled the BAS as we spent most of the night with one another. Keep your head up and chest out, You are proudly remembered and cannot ever be forgotten. "Dog Face Soldier"

To the Family of Javier,
I assisted Run For the Fallen on Day 63 from Waynesboro to Shannon Hill, VA. Javier's flag was placed near Ferncliff, VA. After 3 weeks, VDOT began to remove any attached to road signs, not realizing what they were; on the off-chance that would happen, I asked them to save & notify me of any that came their way, and so, I have your boy's flag & card attached to it; #3751 placed by Jon Bellona on August 16th, 2008.
I would like to send it to you, or put it back (on a tree)--whichever you prefer, just let me know.

Another year has passed since Javier's passing, but he's not been forgotten.
I personally never knew him, but he was old enough that he could've been my son. I grieve for this young man, and soldier as if he could've been my son. I grieve for the brief, and lesser quality of life that was bestowed on Javier from the time of his birth. Logically I console myself that it was his spiritual destiny, but emotionally I grieve for a young man that felt that God's precious gift of life validated his existence. Thinking-Javier's short life was filled with friends, acquantainces, and family members who instilled in him love, honor, respect, strength, and bravery.
I wish I'd known or had had the opportunity in having met this young man; funny, in some spiritual way, i did.

My condolences to all who had been blessed in having known him~

Father we entrust our brother Javier to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Javier in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

Thinking and praying for you on the 1st anniversary of your passing into eternal glory. May God hold you in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Javier, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of this great American Soldier. Our fallen Heroes will never be forgotten. As the father of a fallen soldier that was one of Cpl Parades Brothers I share in your grief. I wish I could comfort you in that the days ahead things will return to normal, but you already know that is not true. We all suffer from the loss of each soldier, not only the family and friends but also his brothers-in-arms and all those that will miss the opportunity to know him. As the days pass and you learn to live with the great void from this tragedy hold close your memories of his smile and love.
Stand down soldier, the line is held, you are relieved.
In memory of PFC Richard P Langenbrunner Cobra Company,3rd platoon,2-69 Armor 4/17/2007 Baghdad Iraq.

October 13, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

To Javier's family and friends,
Words---words---there aren't any....
The brief time we spent with Pez, the day he and his friend Jon graduated from basic training will always be remembered. He was so full of life, enjoying his huge milk shake (so big he couldn't finish it), discussing the computer he planned to purchase, worrying about his family that hadn't yet arrived, looking forward to the next part of his training---
We appreciate Pez and all the men and women who serve our country.
May God be with all of you now and in the days to come.

Dear Paredes Family and friends,

I am Jon Peney's Aunt. Jon was Javier's close friend. I had the pleasure of meeting Javier at Ft. Benning, at his Basic Training Graduation. We all went out for dinner after the Graduation. I will always remember him. He kept a smile on his face and he had a great sense of humor. He will be missed.

Sometimes words aren't enough to express for such a loss, but I pray, may all of you find comfort in your memories of Javier. God Bless all of you.

My dear Pez - I can see you with those wonderful eyes and smile which was a give away that we knew you were about to do something to make us laugh or smile. You are missed but you will never be forgotten. You will make the other angels smile and when I hear the wind in the trees, it will remind me of you whispering to all of us that you are fine - you left this earth too soon but you are in glory right there with God. Holy Spirt, surround Pez' family, friends and fellow soliders with your angels whom are your mightiest warriors to protect and shield them from the darkness. Let the heaviness of Pez' family, friends and fellow soliders be released for restoring and healing. As our tears flow, let the cleansing occur and confidence be placed in our hearts that our lovely Pez is in no pain and celebrating his home in Heaven. When times are quiet - and we think of you - let the sorrow be filled with laughter of Pez' spontaneity. I am so blessed that you are my son's friend Hooah!Thank you for protecting America - America salutes you today and always. Jon's mom

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am to learn of the loss of your Brave Young Soldier.

May Javier rest safely now, in the Loving Care of God and may the Peace of God be with the Paredes family.
There will Never Be Enough Ways to Humbly Thank these Young Heroes for their Sacrifices, my brother among them. Killed in action in Vietnam in 1967.

"I consider that our present sufferings.
are not worth comparing with the glory
that shall be revealed in us."

May you find Peace in knowing the love and memories you have of Javier, will remain in your heart forever and that this Country Will Not Forget his Sacrifice.

With the deepest regret, I have just learned of the death of Corporal Paredes. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!

There are not enough words or phrases to express our personal condolences or sympathy for you "The Paredes Family." Javier's life on Earth was not in vain, his presence had purpose, and his purpose has not ended. His purpose still lives on in you. Think not of his past and how his life could've been better; it was better, and he lived it as he wanted to in God's vision.
