I went to school with Donald (tito) Valentine. He was a great guy, always funny, smiling and there for any of us. I joined the military after hearing Donald had passed. I enlisted as a medic and still hold that MOS to this date. I still have not forgotten and will continue to hold him in my heart. I myself had a near miss in Iraq which after 3 surgeries I still am not healed up. I joined knowing the risks and just wanted to save at least one life so that person's friends didn't have to hold the pain that we all feel in Boise. Love you Donald, thanks for watching over me while I was overseas! To the family, my deepest condolences.

Members of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, PA would like to honor your son’s sacrifice and memory by sending our prayers and comfort through a shawl which we will mail to you. If you are interested, please contact me at [email protected] with the names and addresses and what they would like to receive. We will send them as soon as possible. Also, if you know of any other families who are grieving the loss of a loved one who died serving our country, please pass along my e-mail address, as our organization can no longer get family contacts through the military. The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Valentine family,
I am sorry to learn of Donald's death, but I wish to express to you my gratitude for his efforts in the Army. He began serving America and sacrificing for each one of us long before he was called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice. He is worthy of our honor and continued appreciation. Thank you for sharing him with us. A grateful Floridian,

Jarrell Beard

December 23, 2007

I am a retired Senior Fire Inspector from the Houston Fire Department, my name is Jarrell Beard, I am first cousin to Corporal Valentine's Grandfather, Donald Eugene Valentine Sr.. His Greatgrandmother, Lora Lee Valentine was my Aunt. The Beard family lost contact with his Grandmother Geneva and her children after her divorce from Donald Sr..

Our HFD Union newspaper has a tribute to Corporal Valentine in their December Edition and lists three Houston Firefighters as his relatives. I thought the name was too coincidental. Two more names can now, proudly but sadly, be added, myself, and my daughter's husband, E/O Travis Gunnels 19C .

Corporal Donald Eugene Valentine III is also a Beard and the Beard Families offer our belated sympathy to all of his other family members for their loss .

He is a hero to all of us and we are very thankful for his service to our Country and we are saddened by the loss of such a fine young man . God bless the family and they will be in our prayers. Jarrell Beard

October 13, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Dear Mr and Mrs Valentine:

I am so very sorry for the loss of your son, Donald. My heart grieves with you, as I too lost my son Joshua in Iraq. Joshua was also deeply impacted by what happened to our country on 9/11 and said "he never wanted anyone to ever touch American soil again."

Your son is a hero! It takes a special calling for one to be willing to lay down his life for another. And the sons and daughters of this generation have been willing to do that.

There is nothing that I can say that will ease your pain, except that I will pray for you and your family. It is only by the strength of our Lord Jesus Christ that we can walk out this path that we are now on.

I am so thankful for your entire family, who have and continue to serve our country to keep us free.
Freedom isn't free, is it. We have had to pay a heavy price. I hope you can take some peace and comfort knowing that Donald is in the presence of our heavenly Father, what a joyful and wonderful place to be.

Feel free to contact me if i can help you in anyway. I will pray with you, cry with you, talk with you; anything.

May God be with you, now and always

September 28, 2007

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Donald was an amazing person who could always make you smile, with his bling-bling or his goofy humor. He kept my fiance in smiles during their time together in Iraq and I know zach and the entire unit will miss him everyday. I also made a promise to him to watch over Lucy and keep her out of trouble. I will keep that promise and know that his sacrifice is the reason that we can all sleep at night. He was a wonderful and funny young man and we will miss him dearly.

To all who are grieving over the loss of Cpl. Donald E. Valentine III:

I pray that your cherished memories and your faith sustain you during your immense sorrow and that the truth behind the following words of our Lord become more real to you than anything else on this Earth – both for Donald and for yourselves:

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38, 39

I am the wife of a Vietnam veteran committed to remembrance and prayer for our nations’ fallen heroes.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them."

Thank you for your immeasurable sacrifice so that freedom remains. You have my deepest sympathy and respect.

To the Valentine Family:
First I want to extend my condolences to the entire Valentine family. Anna and Donald my heart goes out to you as parents losing a son. I cant imagine the pain your heart and soul are in right now. Anna, I remember when our children were younger and they seemed to have not a care in the world when we would get together either at your house or up at Gator's for our weekly gatherings. Donald had his whole life ahead of him and I know you had hopes and dreams for your oldest son. He fullfilled his dream by serving his country and in turn gave the ultimate sacrifice for it. His name will be forever blazened in history. Myself and many others thank him for that service and protecting this country we all love. Take peace in knowing that he is now sitting in heaven with our lord, and watching over his loved ones as they continue the journey of life. Put your faith and grief in the lord's hands and he will guide you to everlasting peace and salvation. God bless you all.

Many tender memories soften your grief,
May fond recollection bring you relief,
And may you find comfort and peace in the thought
Of the joy that knowing your loved one brought...
For time and space can never divide
Or keep your loved one from your side
When memory paints in colors true
The happy hours that belonged to you.

When we saw on the news about Donald, we are in total shock. I can’t even begin to try & understand your loss right now. Peterson & I were looking through old pictures of the boys from back in the Nintendo/Power Ranger days. And it’s so ironic that Corey & I were just talking about you guys earlier this week.

I truly don’t know what to say, except, I’m sorry for your loss, you & your family are heavy on our minds, and I’m thankful for people like your son, who protect us everyday.

Please let us know when the Memorial Service is.

To the Valentine family:
I have known your family for years now. I can remember our children playing together, laughing, and having good ol' times. Little Donald was only one year older than my oldest son. But when we all got together either at your house or the weekly gatherings up at Gators, they were pals. I cant imagine the grief you are going through right now. The pain of losing a son (child) a parent should never have to endure. I know you are proud of him for serving our country and giving up the one thing that is so precious to all of us, LIFE. He gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country and so have you. I am so grateful for his service and keeping me safe in my country. Please know you are always in my prayers. Put your sorrows in God's hands and he will pick you up and guide you to peaceful salvation. God Bless all of you.

Spc. Donald Valentine & Family:

Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.

To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.

September 22, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I am writing to offer my condolences to your family over the loss of your HERO Spc Donald E Valentine. I also lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a loved one so dear. My son was also from Ft Lewis and the Stryker Brigade.

When things settle down, I recommend that you contact a man named Michael Reagan @
www.michaelgreaganartist.com

He will draw one portrait of the fallen soldier. He does this for free and will draw any picture of your choosing. He has drawn presidents and other celebrities. My husband and I got one and it has helped me with the healing process. Michael is a truly gifted artist that captures the very essence of the person he draws. I look at my picture everyday and it gives me a connection that I cannot explain.

I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

With the deepest regret, I have just learned of the death of Specialist Valentine. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!
