I wanted to send my thoughts and prayers out to Steve's family. I knew Steve when he was in Civil Air Patrol, We were both in the same unit. He was a good friend during those times and I was extremely saddended to hear of his passing. Steve always had the drive to become a Ranger, even back then it was all he would talk about. He was one of those few people that knew what he wanted well before he was able to attain it. He followed his dreams and I am proud to say that I was his friend.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Steven, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Ganczewski Family,
I was a Recruiter at the NF Recruiting Station when Steven enlisted. He was always motivated every time that he walked into the room. It always made me feel proud that there were still young Americans that had the pride and conviction that Steven had. He will be missed and my condolences go out to your and your family.

To the Family of SGT Ganczewski,
Ski was my Ranger buddy in Ranger School. He and I spent every wakeing minute of the course together. I was so impressed by his presence and bearing. He was full of motivation and integrity. I never once heard a negative comment or complaint pass his lips. He would chastize older, more seasoned soldiers in our squad when they would lose focus on the training. He was a genuine example of solid leadership and a reliable follower when not in a leadership position. SGT Ganczewski had unlimted potential. His presence will be sorly missed in the Ranger community. I wish that I would have had the chance to serve with him in combat. I am sure that he was a site to behold. My deepest condolences. My condolences go out to the family of SGT Steven C. Ganczewski. Although I didn't know him or your family personally I am deeply saden because of your lost. I will definately keep everyone in my prayers. Yesterday I opened the Army Times and saw Stevens face, I instantly knew he was. In July I attended WLC at Fort Benning, and Steven was a part of my class. It was interesting to me that when we had down time in our training Steven and his fellow Rangers would entertain us with there Ranger songs and jokes. They really had fun and such a closeness. You would never see someone with a tan beret standing alone. But there was such a contrast when it was time to train. This man took that seriously, all joking came to a halt. He was not only set on listening to the instructor, but what was so great was his dedication to make sure the people around him understood. Once again my heart goes out to this family for loosing such a great man, father, son, Soldier, Ranger.

I have never met SFC Richard Lewis, but knowing that he was a Ranger I know that he must have been a superior example of man. He wanted to make a difference in the world and he did. I will be enlisting this year after graduation with the hope of serving the United States like he did. Thank you SFC Richard Lewis, you will not be forgotten.

To the family of Steven Ganczewski;
I am SFC Richard Lewis. I recruited your son. I found out today that he gave the ultimate cost.
I remember going to the pool at NFHS to ensure that Steven would pass the swim test for RIP. He was so worried about that swim test. Steven was truly one focused and motivated young man.
To his mother and father I my heart felt condolences. I will never forget your son. I am truly inspired by the conviction of your son. This is not easy for me and I am trluy shocked by the news.
It is weird that I found out tonight. Tonight is my last night in Iraq. We are making a difference here in case your wondering. It is not in vain.
