To Honor the Memory of
Sergeant Kenneth Raymond "KR" Booker
Sergeant Kenneth Raymond "KR" Booker, age 25, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on February 5, 1982 in Madison, Indiana, the son of SSG Charles Raymond Booker & Becky (Daughrity) Booker Graham. KR was raised in Switzerland County, Indiana, & was graduate of the Switzerland County High School Class of 2000. He attended the Mt Sterling Baptist Church in Vevay, Indiana, & was a member of the Switzerland County FFA. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Army, happy at the prospect of serving his country. As a member of the 82nd Airborne division from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Kenneth served in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraq Freedom in Iraq. His exemplary service earned him an assignment in military intelligence at Fort Lewis, Washington. Kenneth, however, preferred working in the field to an office, and requested to transfer back to infantry. Joining a Stryker Brigade Combat Unit at Fort Lewis, Kenneth returned to Iraq for his third deployment. Kenneth received the following awards for his service to his country; the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, two Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, two Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-Commission Officer Development Program, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachute Badge, Expert Rifle Weapon. Kenneth was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division. He will be remembered by his friends and family for his clever sense of humor, his love of hunting & target shooting, his outgoing nature, and above all, his outstanding dedication to his country. Today, we join Kenneth's family and friends in mourning his death. While we struggle to bear our sorrow over this loss, we can also take pride in the example he set, bravely fighting to make the world a safer place. It is his courage and strength of character that people will remember when they think of Kenneth. Today and always, Kenneth will be remembered by family members, friends and fellow Hoosiers as a true American hero, and we honor the sacrifice he made while dutifully serving his country. Sergeant Kenneth Raymond Booker, twenty-five years old, died November 14th in Mukhisa, Iraq. Sergeant Booker died of injuries he sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. With an optimistic future before him, Kenneth risked everything to fight for the values Americans hold close to our hearts, in a land halfway around the world. Sergeant Booker died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 8:28 pm in Mukhisa Iraq.

Booker (Retired) of Burkesville, Kentucky; his paternal great grandmother: Dorothy McMackin of Moorefield, Indiana; his step-brothers: Keith Briner &his wife: Angie of Indianapolis, Indiana; Robert Graham, Jr. of Houghton, LA; his step-sister: Katrina Soles of Houghton, LA; his aunts: Alice Powell & her husband: Darrell of Madison, Indiana; Eula Butler & her husband: Shan of Vevay, Indiana; his great-great-aunt: Ruby McMackin of Bennington, Indiana; his niece: Hailey; his nephew: Blayden; his cousins: Jason Rook, Jeremy Stevens, Jarrid Stevens, Andrew Peelman & Angela Powell.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: James & Cathy (Temple) Daughrity; his paternal great grandfather: Charles L. McMackin.
FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 9, 2007 at 1:00 pm, at the Switzerland County High School Gymnasium, 1020 West Main Street Vevay, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Slawson Cemetery, Bennington, Indiana.
VISITATION
Friends may call 4:00-8:00 pm, Saturday, December 8, 2007, at the Switzerland County High School Gymnasium 1020 West Main Street Vevay, IN.
SPECIAL SERVICES
Military rites will be conducted by the honor guard of the Fort Knox Ceremonial Unit

Today me and Pat were talking about you. We were reminissing the good old days in the 82nd. We were talking about the time the electricity went out in huts we were staying in Iraq. That was the time you and the guys were wrestling and they were trying to bring you down but no one couldn't and I remember everyone yelling out like a wookie because you were just brushing people off like they were rag dolls with every challenge. Man I miss you and I know all your army brothers miss you too.

To Kenneth's family I am sorry for your loss, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Kenneth and I were together in Afghanistan and his first deployment in Iraq with Aco 2/505 82nd Airborne Div. Booker was a good soldier, a great leader and an outstanding friend. The world will never be the same without him.
Kenneth and I were keeping in pretty close contact when he deployed on his second tour into Iraq. My heart sank when I didn't hear from him in a week and my heart broke when I found out the news.
Kenneth was my best friend someone I think of as a brother.
The last time I saw him was when he came to visit while changing stations from Ft. Bragg to Ft. Lewis. He was full of life and like always his humor and out look on life set him apart from everyone else.
To Booker his family and friends always came first. There isn't anything Kenneth wouldn't do for his family or one of his friends.

I am honored to have known a true American Hero and am blessed to be living in the USA. My family will be eternally greatful for the supreme sacrifice that Kenneth and many other brave men and women have given us...freedom. I'm truly saddened to hear of Kenny's death. I graduated with Kenny and had spoken to him via myspace in recent months. Kenny talked a lot about how much he liked being in the Army. I'm a Air Force spouse, so I could relate to some of the things he talked about.
It's a sad time for our community, but it's times like these when you know a community is close and caring. Call out to your neighbors-they are there for you.

I will always remember him being the quite but firm team leader to his guys. He was serious about his job and his life but he would always be one the guys joking around. I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.

My deepest sympathy to Kenneth's mom and dad. We are cousins and I do believe the last time I saw Kenneth was at a reunion at Uncle Charles and Aunt Dorothy's farm. All the boys had such fun.
I pray that you will get thru this. You and I are both Army families from long tradition but still it hurts so much. I, too, have two sons deployed and returned, and now inprocess of redeploying. The 101st Airborne and the 4th ID in which our kinfolk are serving were notified of the great loss.
Please give the mother, grandmother, and great grandmother a long hard hug. They really need it. This is to his mother, his grandma Inez, and his great grandma Dorothy. This comes from Doody's daughter.

I would like to send my condolences to the family and friends of Sgt. Booker. Words cannot begin to express the terrible sadness that you must be experiencing. I pray that God be with you as you grieve your loved one.
Remember that Sgt. Booker is a true American hero that will never be forgotten. He was fighting to provide freedom to people who have never had the chance to experience it. Many Americans take this freedom for granted.
I would personally like to thank Sgt. Booker for providing freedom and security that I get to enjoy daily in America. I thank God for men like Sgt. Booker. I am so saddened for your loss and hope that God will somehow give you the comfort and peace to one day joyfully remember the wonderful memories you have of this fallen hero.

As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Society, Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all.
