Another year has passed since you left us and the void in my heart still aches! Will life ever be the same without you? I miss you so much, just thinking about you makes me cry. I know you and daddy are probably watching over all of us, but if life were fair, you would be watching your children grow and boy are they getting big, Mike you would be proud! A Soldiers Prayer
When I am called to serve, Dear Lord, Whenever war may be, Give me courage to fight the battles, My country may ask of me.
Grace me with Your presence, And know that I love You, While I fight the enemy, My country needs me to.
Help me protect my comrades, As you expect me to, And keep me in your loving hands, While I do what I must do.
I want to do my duty, And to give the best in me, To do what I've been called to do, And protect out liberty.
And if, according to Your will, I must give up my life, Please bless with Your protecting hand, My children, family and wife.

Michael, my son. A huge chunk of my heart is with you in heaven. I miss your sweet smile and your cute little ways and it hurts so much to know I can never hear your voice or touch your face again in this life. I can remember the first time you smiled into my face and all the slobbery wet kisses you showered upon me and the first time your little fingers curled around mine. Your first steps and your first mama filled my heart with joy and I knew you were a special gift from God. My heart fills with pride when I think of the kind loving man you turned out to be. How you loved your family and loved your Jesus. You had a thirst for the knowledge of spiritual things and wanted to share that love of God with all of us . You were always there for me never criticizing always understanding. You will always have that special place in my heart that belongs just to you. I love you always.
I will meet you at heavens gate when God calls me home.

Carleen,
My heart goes out to you and your family. I have fond memories of Mike and remember sitting at your kitchen table while he recounted memories of growing up in Michigan. Of course, then there were also the topics of boys, work and school. The thing I remember most about Mike was his zeal for Christ and the 100 watt smile you could always count on. You also knew he was the guy that would be there for you when you needed him. I hope this book leaves a lasting legacy of his memory because he's gone way to soon.

Elledge family,
I have experienced, witnessed and heard and at a very young age, Mike Elledge walked into many people’s lives. He had a special way of touching people, reaching out to people and seeing people for who they are in the most respectful way. Through circles of friends “he had touched mine! Mike had a natural way to approach and you, try to understand you without judging or berate you. He had an internal wisdom that many people don’t grasp or don’t stumble upon till later in life. To all that know him we are lucky! For it’s the “Mike Elledges” in your life you should follow and to be associated with!
Take care Brother Mike, to your family and all who know him.

It was an honor and privilege to know Michael. Unfortunately for me and my family it was a short amount of time, from our time together I knew he loved his family and was a dedicated man. There are certain people in our lives and that influence us, and Michael was one of those for me. I admire that he went back into service to help our country, and saddened to know he won’t be coming back to his family. God must have his own plans for Michael. I know he will be missed. God bless you and your children you will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear family and friends,
We've all lost someone we dearly loved. The only hope we have is in knowing Mike is with our sweet Lord Jesus. I believe that Mike was genuinely looking forward to going to Heaven. I don't think he wanted to leave us all behind, but apparently God said it was his time. God knows the bigger picture, that we can't understand. The lives that Mike touched while he was here on earth is a gift, but even more were touched at his loss. We may never know the full impact for Christ that Mike had on us all.
Mike was one of my younger brothers, I am his oldest sister Linda. There is 13yrs. between us, I held him in my arms when he was a baby. I watched him take his first steps, baby sat and played with him. I watched him grow from a skinny teenager who only ate rasin bran cereal and always looking for the next party, untill he went into the Marines. He finaly started to eat real food, filled out and matured into a fine young man. He not only looked good but something was different about him, he'd changed. Thats when he accepted Christ as his savior. I could tell by the changes in his life that this was real. He still liked to party and have fun, but he knew there was more to life than this temporary world. He had a God connection, a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This is hard for some people to understand unless you've experienced it. This is where Mike and I really connected. Even though our lives were very diffrent we had that God connection that made us very close.
Mike dearly loved his wife Carleen and his children. He deeply cared for his friends and his family. He lived his life looking to God for direction. He made an impact on the lives he touched. We loved you Mike! You will be greatly missed!
Your big sister Linda

I had the pleasure of working w/Carleen for several years. Over the course of those years, I got to know Carleen very well and also got the privlege of knowing all about her family. I never got to know Mike, but I knew through Carleen what a wonderful and caring person he was. Those years of working with Carleen and getting to know about her familty were very special to me. Caleb and Cassidy know that your father was a great man who loved you and your mother dearly. Treasure and remember all the special moments, this is something that you can keep forever. Mike, you made the ultimate sacrafice to our country and beyond as God calls us all to do and I know you were welcomed into the arms of Jesus as a righteous and faithful man. I know that you must have planted seeds through you own testimony and faith. I wish you all the best in your new home & hope you find a church family for you, Caleb and Cassidy. I remember the day Cassidy was born & Mike was there with the two of you playing his guitar. I didn't know Mike as well as you Carleen. However, the little time I did spend with him, you and the children reflected what a dedicated Father, Husband and generally good Human Being he was. Carleen, Chris, Caleb and Cassidy,
What I remember most about Mike is when I was watching Chris & Caleb. He would come to pick them up and we would talk about family and faith. Though our conversations I could tell he had a deep desire to be a Godly husband and a Godly father to his kids. He was constantly striving to make himself the best he could be for you all because he loves you so much. I am so sorry for your loss but, just remember one day you will see him again.
Chris, Caleb and Cassidy for you, it may be just because you were able to see a glimpse of God through your dad's actions that you accepted or will accept the gift of salvation.
You all are very special to me and I think about and pray for you often.

Mike was a good man. It may sound cliché but truer words have never been spoken. It has been a pleasure and now an even more gratifying experience to have known Mike. The time we spent together, getting to know each other, sharing our personal stories and struggles, has become a more special time for me now. Mike made me want to be a better man, father, husband, and Christian.

Dear Carleen, Caleb and Cassidy,
I think of your husband/father everyday and the sacrifice that each of you made for me and my children. His heroism will NEVER be forgotten in this family. It has been a blessing to know Mike and to walk along with him in his struggles. But the biggest blessing I get is seeing your faithfulness and how
God seems to say to you, almost on a daily basis, that He is going to take care of you. We can't see the "Big Picture" of God's Plan in this. But we can find peace in knowing that this was part of His Plan and it's evident in even the little ways He answers your prayers-"that red phone to God" thing.
I often look back to Mike's memorial and the things said about him by people across the country who knew him short time, long time and forever, what people consistently said was the "He loved the Lord, he was a loving husband and a great father. I think Mike would have wanted exactly those things to be remembered about him. What an honor to klnow this man and this family.

Dear Ones: My heart breaks for the loss of your loved one. Mike was like a son to me and I loved him dearly. Mike had such a gentle spirit and bright light that shined with everyone he was with. I am very proud of his service to our country and for being a good father and husband. I thank God every day for giving me my precious daughter and grandchildren. I will always remember how caring Mike was to me and wanting to take care of me. God promises peace even when you are brokenhearted with grief. The Bible describes a supernatural peace that is experienced only through knowing God. "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Phillippians 4:6-7. Mike experienced this peace and I know you are comforted by that. Peace be still, I love you, Your Mom and Grammy

I remember hanging out with you and Mike on block leave and we went Frankies Bar & Grill. Him and I were so amazed by the satalite jukebox, playing all these crazy songs from the eighties. We were all laughing, eating and drinking and having a really good time. His eyes were so sparkely and smile so bright every moment he looked at you. I will not let the sun set without thinking of him, him and you together that day in the bar. Not many people ever find the love you two shared. I am lucky to have seen it. I know he is resting peacefully. We will all be together again someday.

There are those that become honorable because of the Army and then there are few who BRING HONOR TO THE ARMY. Mike was one of the few. He not only brought honor to the Army but to his family and faith as well.
So our way of honoring you Mike is being thankful for every day we have, enjoying a smile in that moment, and never forgetting that God is in control.
Carleen Caleb and Cassidy know that you are literally in our thoughts and prayers daily. We keep that gorgeous family picture of you all in Hawaii in our van as a reminder to never forget the sacrifice Mike made and the men and women that have died serving our country.

Carleen, Caleb, Cassidy, and Christopher,
Our hearts go out to the entire Elledge family on the loss of your father, brother, uncle, and husband. Mike was such an awesome person! We were very fortunate to have been a part of Mike's life. I don't know what it is like to lose someone you love unexpectedly and not sure I could handle it. However, I have to say that Carleen has to be one of the strongest people I know. She has not only held her family together, but she has made a very large effort to include the friends that have crossed paths with Mike over the years.
Mike and my husband (also Mike) worked together at United Airlines. They were on the same shift and commuted together. They shared very personal stories with each other and Mike always managed to touch my husband's heart. He was so full of life and loved his family VERY much. They were his life. Mike will be missed very much and even though it has been almost five months since Mike passed, I don't think there is a day that doesn't go by that we don't think about him.
To Mike's kids, if you ever get down, please remember that your dad loved you very much. You were his world and he smiled every time he thought of you.
Rest in peace Mike.

I was upset that I didnt get to come and see you before you left, and because of an accident your in a better place! Im happy that your in peace instead of being someware that isnt safe and fun. I know your right up there with god. Which I feel like you have brought me up with you! I feel so much closer to god now. I know you hear me talking talking to you everynight. I know im asking you to look over me and watch your brother everynight, but I know that your answering me! Thank you for being such a great person! I miss you so much and I cant wait to be able to see you again! You died a hero! You will always be in my heart.
Your an amazing uncle!
I love you very much!

Carleen, Caleb, & Cassidy-
I am still so sorry that you have to endure your loss. But Mike's legacy lives on because of the example he set in his life and death.
I remember his memorial service every single day and think about how I could lead a life as Mike did. With his priorities and values and sense of honor.
I try to achieve more because of him.
I love you all very much and want the best for you. I am so sorry that you have to experience this in your lives.
My prayer is that God provides special Blessings for you forever. God Bless, John

God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. You see, when God called people like Moses, David, and Paul…etc. they went forth not knowing…and God used them to do extraordinary things. If you go back in time… Mike didn’t know how God was going to use him over his lifetime.
1 Corinthians 15:58 says, “My dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
Mike gave testimony about Jesus Christ to people all over the world. Even after his death people will hear about Jesus Christ through his life testimony and the sacrifice he gave for his country.
Carleen, we are for you and here for you as a dear friend and sister in Christ. Love, Vaughn, Jill, Brady & Cambell

SSG Michael Elledge,
You were one of the best Non-commissioned Officers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I think about you all the time. I learned so much from you not only as a Soldier but also as a man. You brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people in the company, and I am a better man for knowing you. My wife and I are very greatful to have known you and Carleen, you all will always be part of our lives. Mike I just want you to know that you, Carleen and the kids will always be in our thoughts and our prayers. May God Bless you all. You will be missed.

Mike,
We love you and your family deeply. I clearly remember the day you decided to rejoin the military, knowing full well you may be deployed to Iraq. You were clear in your mission, “to bring the message of Jesus Christ to the soldiers and people in Iraq, so that they may be spiritually set free.” As I read the letters and newspaper articles regarding your time in Iraq, it is very apparent, you accomplished your mission. This of course, is the only eternal mission for which there are never any regrets.
We are also so proud of your service to this country, and we are forever in debt to you and all those serving in the military. The lives you touched with the Gospel will be forever changed, and each one will realize the great gift it was, as we do, to know Mike Elledge and call him a friend. You are a real hero. We love you!
In Christ,

Mike,
This life was only a vapor and you knew that going to Iraq. You were content to fight for freedom, but also lay your life on the line to let others know that this life is not the point of this life.......but the next life is the point. I rejoice in knowing that your life brought glory to Christ. It doesn't matter how it came about, the point is that a sovereign God worked in your life and used you in many ways: follower of Jesus, husband, father, soldier, minister to hurting men and even preacher. Can't wait to be reunited with you. I celebrate your life here, but also celebrate your life there.

Elledge Family,
My prayers will be with you guys over the next year. Mike had the heart of a servant and even in his death died serving. That is the way he will be remembered forever. Now he is in a place where there is no struggles or pains. I know that God has a special place him. Mike loved his family and his God with all of his being. He will be missed.
Mike
I was always jealous of those guns of yours. Keep the weights warmed up I"ll be there before too long to join you. I remember the rides on the lake on your boat and the long conversations about the Bible at work. You were the quiet thinker who was always working through everything not just talking anyones word for it. Your search for truth is over now and now you have every answer that we all seek. I look foward to seeing you again in heaven and you answering all of those questions we had when we talked.

You are the best dad in the universe. I hope you have the greatest time in heaven because heaven is your real home, not down here. (Yes, a 6 year old really said that) I am really glad you died because heaven is a super good place since heaven is a good place for you Dad. And I am looking at lots of your pictures at home. I wrote notes for you inside my books in my room. Lots of them. We are listening to your CD's too. You are a great Hero. Bye. Love, Cassidy Faith Elizabeth Elledge
