I was in school with Durrell. The first time I met him was in math class in 7th grade. His personality was amazing and I always knew he would do great things. Anyone who was lucky enough to know him will never forget. His smile, his jokes, his always positive attitude. I consider myself blessed for having the opportunity to know him. My only regret is that when I went to Iraq, I didn't get to serve next to this amazing man. I will never forget you Durrell. We miss you.

Durrell this is Johnson security at Bethel high it took a lot for me to try and write this to you i just want you know from one soldier to another I love you . I attended your memorial it was a fitting way to go home. As I set through the service it brought back so many memories for me of the countless memorials I either attended or had to speak at And they all had one thing in common another outstanding soldier has been called home . While I listen to the kind words being said about you I thought of one of our conversations we had while you home on leave ,we often talked while you were a student but this time was different because you were a soldier protecting are way of life. You were very proud of what you were doing and I told you that im proud of you.And I told you no one truly understand what we do or how we feel unless they've walked in our boots. So I tell you this DURRELL I'm so proud and blessed to have the opportunity to watch you go grow from a young boy to a grown man and one of Americas best you did us proud. So its up to us to never stop mentioning the name Durrell Bennett, See you at the next AA 1SG retired Johnson

I miss you so much and I think of you always. These past few years have been hard for me because you are no longer in my life. The last time I talked to you was before you went on your misson that horrible day you were taken from us. You were so good to me and treated me like your queen. I will always love you and I know you know that. Keep watching over me and I will see you again one day. Again I love you very much

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Bennett Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

It's difficult for us to sit down today and write this message of love. Durrell, how we miss you....our hearts hurts daily. As your mother think of you when she walk into your room and look at your pictures she finds herself asking for strength daily. Her soul weeps for you. As your father often talks about you, he cherished having the opportunity having you as his son and he get so...many people asking him, "you must be Durrell's father he look so much like you." Your father miss you dearly. Your brother is encourgage by your sacarfice you gave to this country.
We miss the well-loved voice of you, your tender smile, the charm of you, the joy of your unfailing sympathy that you carried in your heart.
Your brother, miss your sheltering arms that rested on him and encourged him to be the best he could be.
Your father, miss your light touch when he held your hands in his hands, the gleam in your eyes assured him that you had the understanding of life responsibilities.
We're proud of you and honored that God favored you to be in our lives. He called you home on March 29,2008 a day we will never forget and a day we will always remember until we see you in heaven.
Love, mom, dad and brother.

I just returned from Washington D.C. and after visiting the Nations Capitol, the WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Memorials and prayed for all of those heros who died for our country. It brought you and the meaning of your death into a whole new and respected meaning. You are our hero and I want to thank you for laying down your life for your country and all those who live in a free country. You may not have a marble memorial for you now in our nations capitol, but you will always have our hearts for your memorial for as long as we live. Blessings to your family. Missing you.....
God gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Even youth grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like an eagle. They will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be afraid. Durrell, I know in my heart you were lifted up like an eagle and you walked before your heavenly father and was not weary....I know you stood before him and singed a song of joy and danced before him with pride and honor. I miss you son....I will see you in heaven....Love mom.

It has been almost a year since God took you away. I still feel so weak when I think about the phone call I got when I knew we werent going to hug each other again.
I remember running around the house when I was just two with you. Life is never easy and without you it seems more difficult sometimes. I just thank God that we were able to be at the point we were before you left.
Everyday when I put on my uniform I think about you. When I salute our flag, I am thinking of you. I am so proud of all that you have accomplished. I love you with all my heart. ...My favorite soldier.

I just wanted to say how sorry I am for the Bennett family. I had the pleasure of serving with this outstanding soldier and great american. I remember durrell as very strong hearted with a good sense of humor. He was a big seahawks fans (me being a steelers fan) we always talked about football. He also had a love for music. I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Durrell, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

The Bennett family want to let everyone know we appreciate all the love and kind words extended to us. Durrell is our hero. We speak often of is beautiful smile that can lift your spirits. Remembering his voice and his warm embracement of hugs....
We feel Durrell was truly one of God's Angels. God allowed Durrell to do wonderful things on earth. He touched our lives so deeply. He was a person of compassion and he was passioniate about whatever he did. Someone said to me, his mother, "God was needing another hero in heaven.'' The Bennett family thank you.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I am a distant relative of Durrell, and have just recently learned of his passing through conversations with my grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Page, who are planning to attend the services. Durrell was a gift to all who met and knew him. I was blessed with watching him grow in his music. His natural love and talent for music was matched only by his glorious smile. The dancers and students called me "Mama Risse" and I was the Crimson Haze Step-Dance advisor for Bethel High School from 1994 until 2003 and I felt Durrell was one of my best Steppers during that time frame. It was his dedication to his team mates, his high moral character, and his constant hard work at being the best, that was Durrell's "trade mark". It is only fitting on today, the 40th anniversary of the death of Rev. Dr. Martin L. King, that we look back to the day when Durrell was a sophomore at Bethel High School and he gave the most impressive and emotional speech, "I HAVE A DREAM" at our Martin L. King Assembly.
My heart is breaking at the loss of this wonderful young man. He gave so much of himself. Not only did he give his life for his country, but he also gave his love to all who came into his life for the past 22 years. Our gift to Durrell's memory is to honor his dreams and always keep him in our hearts. My prayers go out to his family. Peace of Christ be with you during today and all the tomorrows.

To the family and parents of Durrell I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many question as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There are no right or wrong ways to grieve, it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor
traits/homepage,
where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.
