Dad, I will miss you. I know it has been years since you left the world. But I can't let go of the grief your death has brought to this world. I don't have any memories of you, for you died when I was just a baby. You left our world too early. But even though I have no memories of you, I know you were a good person who died for his country. You will always be a hero. Your death had affected us deeply. If only I could see you here today in this world of happiness, pain, misery, confusion, evil, etc. I have trouble with my emotions. You are here to help me, just not physically. I will never let your story die nor be forgotten. I will make sure you won't be forgotten. Til we meet again, Samuel

To Scott's Family,
I met Scott in Africa and we worked closely together for a couple of months getting him into Uganda. He was an outstanding friend and an outstanding officer with a heart of gold for those he helped. The world is a sadder place without him. My deepest condolences.

I was in Scott's small group during the Mobilization Civil Affairs Course in March '06. We maintained contact until December 2007. I remember him for his big hearty smile, his optimistic outlook on life, his desire to serve his country and his love for his family.

To the family and parents of Scott I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. I went to SHS w/ Scott and graduated alongside him, though I haven't seen him since graduation. I was deeply saddened to hear of his death. Please know that he will never be forgotten and has a special place reserved for heroes at God's side in Heaven.
I know the pain is unbearable but lean on God and let him carry your burdens for you. He left a wonderful legacy in your boys to remember him by and to carry on his character. With God's strength life does go on. My brother was KIA in Iraq on Nov. 2, 2003 and we felt like the world should have stopped turning and it didn't. Let those who are able help you through and carry your weight until you are able once again to stand on your own.
God Bless your entire family! Know that our thoughts and prayers are always with you! Scott is, and will always be, a Hero for defending the rights and freedom of those who could not defend it themselves.

To Scott's family and all his loved ones --

Growing up with Scott, I remember his kind spirit. It was very impressive to see the fine, confident, and still kind man he had become when I last saw him at the SHS class reunion in 2004. He knew at that time he was deploying to Iraq, and I can never forget the poise and dedication with which he approached that duty. It is incredible he was since deployed to Uganda and Afghanistan. Having been the primary support for a deployed soldier, I know Scott's wife and sons, entire family, friends and co-workers made sacrifices as well during those times. And now there is no greater sacrifice that can be asked. I am so sorry for this terrible loss. May God be your strength in this time and may you be comforted in knowing Scott positively changed this world and touched the people around him. I stand with you to honor him and to thank him for his service and sacrifice by REMEMBERING.

I cannot tell you how hearing of this news has touched my heart. There is something about actually knowing someone that makes this war so much more real. My prayers go out to his family. I am sure his wife and children are so proud of the service he gave our country. I last saw Scott in 2004 at our 20th High School Reunion when he sat at our table at dinner. He came to the reunion dressed in his uniform. I remember being so impressed by this grown up version of the boy I knew in school. He was about to leave for duty when I saw him. I am honored to have been a classmate and to have gotten to visit with him. He was a fine person and I can see why so many people who knew him as a grown man have had so many kind things to say. He will be truly missed and for myself he is the face I will remember as I grow old and remember this time of war.

I wanted to take this opportunity to express my sincere condolences to the entire Hagerty family. I offer a unique perspective because I was looking foward to being a "dad" figure to the soldier that was killed with Scott, Spc Derek Holland. Derek's Mom and I have been on an emotional roller coaster since being notified of this tragedy. One thing that Kathy and I have tried to do is to keep Scott's family in our thoughts and prayers. There is a special bond between the two of them and now also among our families. We look forward to meeting at some point and share some stories of thier lives. I am confident that Scott would have had a confidence in Derek, knowing his dedication and work ethic. I truly believe a bond formed in this life such as that of these fine soldiers should not and will not be broken. As families of these we can help to keep the bond alive here on earth as well. I was on Main Street as the procession went by. I was proud to display the United States Flag for a such a fine Officer and Gentleman, Father and Husband, Son and Grandson. His family has much to be proud of.

I knew Scott from a long time ago. I saw him in Walmart not too terribly long ago and I hadn't seen him in years, but I knew him right away. His beautiful face hadn't changed a bit. He gleemed with pride as he told me about his beautiful wife and his sweet little boys. It was no secret he was totally in love with these three incredible individuals. He told me he would be "going over" soon, but that he would be coming home soon. Although it wasn't the way he intended, he did go home. Home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ. What a special, selfless, loving person he was. My children and I made signs last night and held them up proudly this morning as each and every car passed by. Scott was a hero!!! Our thoughts and prayers are with you Daphne, Jonathan, and Samuel. Thank you for the sacrifices you made that made it possible for the rest of us to have the security that your Daddy and husband provided. Y'all are heros right along with him!! Always remember that you will see him again and I guarentee he's telling everyone in heaven about y'all like he told me. : )

Scott was a member of our Cowboys message board. It's hard not to feel an affinity to other Cowboys fans. That pales in comparison to the respect I have for his service to our country.

A wise man once told me, "the only way to remove the sorrow from death is to take all of the joy out of life."

From what his friend Darin has told me of him, Scott lived a life full of joy. His service is why we honor, the joy he borught to life is why we sorrow.

Dear Hagerty family,

How I wish there were a way to keep you from such sorrow.

I did not know Scott, but have learned of him from those who did, and from all who honored him here. What an incredible man, son, brother, husband and father!

I know from experience that the grief will lessen, yet no one else can ever replace Scott in your hearts. And, though I know it means little, I want you to know how very grateful I am for his willingness to serve our nation. I grieve his sacrifice with you and I pray that the Lord will allow each of us to bear that grief with you--that you will know that you are not alone, and that Scott is not, and will not be, forgotten.

As I have read through these pages, the words written about Major Hagerty have reminded me of Philippians 4:8 :"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things." I pray that you are able to think about such things whenever you think of Scott, and that, in time, the God of all comfort will dry your tears.

May the grace of God settle like a mantle over you and His peace overcome you. I will keep you in my prayers.

Unfortunately, his hero's ending came about from his quiet leadership. I remember few things about Scott from High School, but one thing I remember is when he was acknowledged as one of the Seniors on the football team in the big gym. The shiny parquee floor was no match for the pride he felt in playing for his alma mater. His life sacrifice is the ultimate sign of pride he had for his country, family, friends, and total strangers that needed his presence in a very hostile environment. I pray that all will remember this when we leave our in-tact homes and travel on the intact roads to our intact lives. GO PIONEERS, GO POKES, and GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!!! SHS '84

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I did not know Scott personally but his brother Mark spoke often of how much he loved to serve his country. All of our treasured soldiers by virtue of their service exhibit the kind of love spoken of by the Savior and indeed walk in His footsteps for they are willing to give all for those they know and love and indeed for those they have never met. So even though some of us may not know Scott personally our hearts are knit together with his, and with his family members who now mourn his passing, by virtue of the Christ like love inherent in his sacrifice for us.

For whosever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. Matt 16:25.

I have no doubt that Scott has found his way to the arms of Him whose steps he followed while in this life.
