Hello,

We wanted to let you know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We are sending Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of William "Billy" Joseph Mulvihill US Army Specialist.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, our family, friends and many others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Mulvihill was my bunk mate on our way to basic. We stayed friends. After basic we went to different AIT. Few years later we met at fort hood and learned we had been both deployed to Iraq at the same time and he was getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan. Time after that I was reading the newspaper obituaries and learned he had made the ultimate sacrifice.

We will forever miss you. And if his family ever reads this I would like to be able to share his audacity and humor we shared while bunk mates. I was at the ceremony but couldn't approach anyone in that hard time

Billy,
I met your step-dad last night. I noticed his lapel pin he wears in your honor; mistaking it for the Blue Star service pin (I have been wearing one to honor my son who just returned from Afghanistan). I asked him who he had serving overseas. He graciously said, "Actually its a Gold Star; I lost my son to an IED". I was embarrassed at first, and said "I'm sorry, my son just returned last week." Then I felt a burden of guilt and sadness. My son returned and his did not. My eyes began to water. He noticed and quickly with a broad smile said, "He's Back! That's great!!"

We talked a while after that about our sons and almost at the same time expressed that our sons' courage to serve our country and be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, has inspired us to try and live up to their legacy, face our own fears, and become better men.

Thank You and even though we have never met, you are not forgotton Billy Mulvihill.

Hello,
I represent PRAYER SHAWLS 4 FALLEN SOLDIERS (PS4FS), an organization that since October 2007 has sent over 2,800 prayer shawls to military families who have lost a loved one. We are an organization of over 240 groups from all over the country. We make every effort to reach families even when post cards are returned after they have moved. Would you kindly send me a contact email/address so that we may send a loving hand-made prayer shawl to the family? Thank you!

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

He was a "go to" guy and I knew that if he was put on a task that it would get done. I know that the Army is not as strong as it was for having lost him. I feel like I lost a brother. My condolences to your family.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and family during this hard time.My name is SSG Echevarria, I was one of the lucky ones the serve with your son in the Republic of Korea. I was his Motor and Platoon Sergeant, since the first day the I met him he showed how good and high speed he was. A Discipline, brave, dedicated, firm and most of all humble Soldier. I remember one day he came late to formation, and I smoked him(maded do push-up for a while) and all he said to me was "hoah sergeant"! Later that day he came and told me that would never was going to happen again! For the rest of the time in Korea he never did push-ups for me again. The rest of the Soldier of the platoon always took care of him, been the youngest one, the name him "Young Buck". I used to call him "Kid". He always showed alot maturity for his age, and always took care of his peers(friends). We were bless to serve with such of fine Soldier; a fine young man.No matter how hard was the mission or the day was, he was always smiling, with the same smile I know he is looking down at us right now! From your friend in D-Main, we miss you "Young Buck". I feel that I just lost my own son, I was bless to know and serve with your son, such great Soldier, from me "HOAH KID"!!

John,
I dont recall if I was ever fortunate enough to meet your son but I
believe my father (Jeff Nessler) has. I can't begin to understand the
sadness, the heartache, and grief you must be feeling. I do however
know that when a loved one is lost there is nothing anyone can do or
say that will make you feel better. I do know that eventually once the
pain is lifted a little that you will be able to enjoy talking about
him and keeping his memory alive. I hope you are able to get thru this
time in your life with a proud heart. It is for people like your son
that I am able to say I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN.

August 26, 2008

i am very sorry about your loss. I am very grateful for people like William who serve our country. It is unfortunate that he passed, but he is truly a hero. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

To the family and parents of William I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you

Love to a Fallen family,
I am so sorry to hear about another fallen Hero! I know there are no words that I can say to ease your pain! The loss of a child, husband or brother at such a young age is something that is the most difficult thing to bare! I wish there were something I could say that would ease your pain! We can only pray that one day we will be together again. I was told that if you stretch a piece of string a mile long and line that string with beads, the beads would resemble eternity. Life here on earth is equal to “only one bead”. We have only a short time here compared to the time we will spend in eternity with our loved ones. The only thing I can say is let faith keep you grounded in your life and hold on to your loved ones! This will help you through! It is what helps me get through my days. My son, Anthony entered into the Heavens to be with our Lord in 2007. We can never understand the reasons why our loved ones would ever be taken from us. I pray that one day our pain will ease!
God Bless Your Family!

I met william in basic training i was his battle. I never did call him william he didn't like that as much as billy. so no matter who was around drill sergeant and all i called him billy. He called me everhart. We shared a room together, and it was just us two in it. I didn't know until a few hours ago of billy's passing. i love him we still were in contact with eachother for the last two years. as soon as he was out of ait he stayed at my house for a week and we had a good time. I will be visiting the grave with some friends of mine who got to meet this outstanding soldier. because he was the most skilled in the company. If it was marching, shooting, or anything handy billy won. He assembled the weapons faster then any male in our company at basic training and he helped me through the marches and the discipline everyday. i love this boy. i will not forget him...

To the Mulvihill Family,
I had the privilege of meeting William before he deployed. I was very impressed and thought William was a very fine young man. He worked with my son, PFC Levi Goodman. Levi and William were in the same platoon and had the same MOS. Levi considered William as one of his friends. I spoke with William on the phone and in person. It was obvious that he came from a wonderful family! Levi tells me that you have two more sons and a daughter in the military... So, no wonder I felt a connection to you. We have 3 sons and a daughter who have served or are still serving in the military, with another daughter getting ready to enlist next February. My children have lost friends in the military, but, for some reason, I have deeply mourned with you the loss of William. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please feel free to contact me...I consider you family.

My heartfelt sympathy and love,

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Spc. William Mulvihill our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for William. And to William it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. William, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to William’s family and loved ones.

The best help comes from those that truly understand our sacrifice. The support of all others will forever offer comfort also. Know our boys are all together and one day we will be with them. Until then, we are here for each other. Take one day at a time.
Blessings,

To the Mulvihill Family,
I am not sure what to say to you, except that we understand your pain. Our son was killed last August 4, 2007 and the pain continues still, with the passing of your precious son, Billy. The only thing that keeps me going, is to know the boys are not alone, they are keeping each other company and they are truly Heroes. If there is anything at all we can do for you, please contact us. We are here for you and your family.
God Bless You.
