Highland Springs HS Football Team
September 21, 2009
I am a high school football coach in Richmond, Virginia and each week our team chooses a member of the armed services to dedicate our game to. Each week we choose someone who lost their life one year ago on the date of the game. We dedicate our effort for that week to the memory of someone who gave their life so that we can play the game that we all love. This week(9/25/09) Staff Sgt. Ronald Phillips Jr. is our “champion” of the week. The football team at Highland Springs High School wanted Mr. Phillips family and friends to know that we appreciate everything that he stood for and will honor his memory this week, with our effort, attitude, pride, and unselfishness just as he did for us and all Americans. Thank you and God Bless.

I presented SPC Phillips to the Sergeant promotion board while deployed to Kosovo. His M203 grenade launcher slid off of his M16 during the board when he was told to do a functions check. He squinted sheepishly and said, "aww damn!", in a manner specific to his personality.
I send my sympathy to his Mother. Crying mothers are the real casualties of combat.
Honor him by remembering him.

To the parents and family of Ronald Phillips Jr. It is with deep sadness that I write to tell you how sad The loss of your dear son has made me. As a parent it is hard to imagine a time without your child being there. If there is any consolation it is in the memories that you cherish and the knowledge that you raised a boy into a strong man. Oftentimes I've shared this scripture with friends that have lost loved ones to death. It is comforting and I hope you can find peace from God as well. Revealation: 21: 3,4

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

Dear family of Staff Sgt. Ronald Phillips Jr, I am so sorry for the loss of your hero. He was a hero in many ways to many people. He was helping to maintain our freedoms and helping to bring freedoms to those that have never known freedom before. I send many packages to contacts listed at AnySoldier.com. Your Ronald, being a volunteer contact for Any Soldier.com, was an angel to many in the field. He cared enough for his unit to help pass out mail to those who maybe did not receive any or as much mail as others. Helping them to know that they were supported, cared for and prayed for by us at home in the USA. What a true hero. Freedom isn’t free.
Thank you Staff Sgt. Ronald Phillips Jr. We miss you greatly.
May God’s Holy Spirit grant your family comfort as they progress through grieving for the loss of their very special hero.

To the family and parents of Ronald I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to S/Sgt Ronald Phillips our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Ronald. And to Ronald it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Ronald, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Ronald’s family and loved ones.

Ron and Wanda, When you look at our flag, what do you see?
Do you see beyond the stars and stripes? Can you see those who fought for freedom? Those who shared their ideas that helped shape our great nation?
Can you hear the cry of the wounded as brother faces brother?
In lands far away, can you not see them fall as they answer the
call to arms? Oh how their blood stains the ground as they fall all around, while fighting for what they believe. Can you see those who rush in without a second thought when
disaster strikes while screams of pain fill the air? Or how they line up to give what they may just to
help others that they may never know? How someone will give their life so others may yet breathe?
Our flag stands for more then a country you see,
it stands for all the people that have died to make it free.
For those who always give to help those in need, for the ones who will sacrifice their lives so others may be free, it will always stand with pride
for these. I am proud to say it stands for your son and I thank you for having known him and you. Keep your faith in the Lord.

Mr & Mrs. Phillips,
As a mother of a Marine presently serving in Afghanistan, my heart cries for your family. I know that our God will protect you both during this time of grief. For the love of a parent to the child is undescribable. Knowing you both from Christ Community Church, you are wonderful examples of what God wanted a parent to be....you will remain in our prayers

Father we entrust our brother Ronald to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Ronald in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.
