Hello,
We wanted you to know that we will be honoring and remembering your loved one this holiday season. We have recently sent Care Packages to our deployed troops in his name. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Cory J. Bertrand US Army Specialist.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, our family, friends and many others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Cory, another Memorial Day has been observed and you were thanked for your bravery and sacrifice, but it just doesn't seem to be enough. Austin pinned a flower in the wreath in your honor and memory, and it was a reverent and touching service, but every body's heart aches and misses you, especially sweet, sweet Charlotte. Memories are a blessing from God and we are thankful for those.

Cory,
Not a day goes by that I don't think about you. Every time I hear "American Soldier" I remember the day of your funeral all too clearly. You were the first friend I ever had and I hate thinking about how long it had been since I had seen you. I never thought that the next time we would be together would be at your funeral. I always wonder about who you would have become and how things would be today if it weren't for that bomb. Thank you for everything, you were a great friend! I love you and miss you so much.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

To the family and friends of SPC Cory Bertrand
Today I left my loved ones
and as I go I pray,
Lord don't let them grieve,
because I've died today.
Let there be no wailing
echoing the halls,
the same halls that held laughter,
and answers to my calls,
I pray they all take comfort,
accepting the true way,
and listen when I tell them
these three things today.
Time on earth's a fleeting glimpse
of elegance to be,
just a tiny speck of light,
there's so much more to see,
Love will be forever,
a promise that will last
so love me more than ever,
now my time with you has past.
And last of all remember
the glowing love to be,
when our eyes meet once again,
for all eternity
with God's blessings for comfort and hope V/r Rev. Liz Wold

To the family and parents of Cory I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Spc Cory Bertrand our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Cory. And to Cory it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Cory, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

"The Price to Pay For Freedom" My deepest, heartfelt condolences to the family of SPC Bertrand. My memories of SPC Bertrand started when he arrived to D.co 1-26 IN. I was his First Sergeant when Cory first arrived to Fort Hood. This 17yr old Warrior hit a few speed bumps in the beginning as do most Soldiers. The difference with SPC Bertrand is he quickly matured into an outstanding Soldier who was loved by all of the Company's Men. I moved to another company but always kept in touch with my old Soldiers. Well done SPC Bertrand I know you will rest in peace. Godspeed. 1SG Montoya

Lifetime wish
One dream come true
We would pray to God with
All our hearts for
yesterday and you.
A thousand words can't
bring you back
We know because we've tried
And neither will a million tears
We know because we've cried.
You left behind a broken heart
And happy memories too.
But we never wanted memories
We only wanted you.
To your resting place we go
The flowers are placed with care.
But no one knows the heartache
As we turn and leave you there.

I can't even find the words...I lost my 19 year old son--5 Sept 2007, Balad, Iraq. I am absolutely devastated and I know that you are too...but find comfort in the fact that we will see our loved ones, our heroes again. Do I wish that I could trade places with my son? ABSOLUTELY not. He is in the arms of our Lord--"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away" ~Rev 21:4

Having had a son in Afghanistan and Iraq, I know only too well the daily fear a mother has for her child being in a war zone. What I feared most has unfortunately become a reality for you. I truely cannot express to you how sorry I am for your loss. Remember that your son was what others cared not to be & went where others feared to go & failed to do. He also saw the face of terror,felt the chill of fear, & warmed to the touch of love. But mostly, he lived in times others would say that were best forgotten. Remember as his Mother, you will be able to say with the greatest pride, that your son was indeed a Soldier! Please know how truly sorry I am.
