I never meet PFC Pickard personaly, but I assure you he has affected me not only as a soldier, an NCO, but as a father, and a man. He has reminded me of the costs of mistakes in battle, and the reasons we pay such close attention to traning. I am saddend by his loss, but hopful that his memory will give NCOs the streanth to keep other young soldiers safe. I know he has helped me. I am sorry to his family and friends for his passing. The only confort I can offer is that his passing was not for nothing. He is a hero!
Wile, working a STX lane at Fort Lewis my soldiers were ready to go home for the day, but we had about 2 more hours to train. I asked them if they were sastisified with their preformance and were ready for combat. They said yes, I asked them what they thought PFC Pickard would say about traing. Would he care if it was dark? or wet? or cold? The rest of the train up the phrase I herd from my Squad leaders was "PFC Pickard says, one more time" or "PFC Pickard says, we train to standard" I know he was looking out for us in Iraq. We did not loose a single man. Thank you PFC Pickard.

Heath, it's your old buddy Canales. We both got our Texas selves sent up to Alaska back in October 2006. It's nearly been two years since you left us but you will never be forgotten. While we where over there i didn't believe that you were gone until Zach Healy had told me. It hurt like hell knowing you were taken from us. The rest of that deployment i asked God if its my time all i ask is that you put me next to Pickard so we can knock'em back like we used to. I'm out of the Army now and trying to get into UT but you really are one of my heros and a true hero of this great nation. I thank God for every day that comes to me and keep your family in my prayers. God bless you and your family you will never be forgotten brother.

October 13, 2009
I am a high school football coach in Richmond, Virginia and each week our team chooses a member of the armed services to dedicate our game to. Each week we choose someone who lost their life one year ago on the date of the game. We dedicate our effort for that week to the memory of someone who gave their life so that we can play the game that we all love. This week Pfc. Heath Pickard is our “champion” of the week. The football team at Highland Springs High School wanted Mr. Pickard’s family and friends to know that we appreciate everything that he stood for and will honor his memory this week, with our effort, attitude, pride, and unselfishness just as he did for us and all Americans. Thank you and God Bless.

PFC Pickard you have shaped me as an NCO. On a sandy day we were grounded, no medevac were leaving that day. A call came in with an attack on FOB Warhorse and soldiers were in need. I have never felt such pain as that day when even the Brigade Commander said the risk was too high. By piecing together a top knotch crew we were able to launch with approval of a one star general. The soldiers were already in route in a stryker convoy. We were able to find this convoy and medevac three soldiers. I helped perform CPR on one. One soldier did not make it through the flight, one soldier was able to return to a US hospital before he had to say good bye to this world, and one soldier eventually returned home in the same condition he left. You always want to save everyone, and a part of you dies for every Fallen Hero. I am sorry that we couldn't save you that day, but not by failure to do everything we could. I will forever remember your face and the great stories I've heard from your commander and friends. God took you too early, but the brightest stars tend to burn out the soonest. My God be with your family through these times.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

Death, be not proud
Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die.

Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

To Spc. Heath Kayne Quinton Pickard and his family:
My twin brother is Captain Jeff Krohn, US Army, FOB Warhorse, Baqubah IRAQ.
The indirect fire took place a FOB Warhorse and my brother had called me the following day to inform me that he was okay, but that tragically, a US solldier had died.
I can tell you that Spc.Pickard's death although very sudden and tragic will not be in vain. Our soldiers are doing an outstanding job in Iraq and in Baqubah too.
The days of IEDS and VBIEDs and suicide bombers are decreasing and so too will these desparate indirect fire attacks on our FOBs.

To the family and parents of Heath I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Pfc Heath K. Pickard our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Heath. And to Heath it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Heath, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

This is a Tribute to Your Soldier, We are praying for you all.
God’s Army
They’re someone’s son, someone’s baby.
They’re someone special to a mom, a dad,
a brother, a sister.
They don’t stay small for ever, you watch
them grow up daily.
And you wonder, where did the time go.
How did it slip away?
They don’t belong to the one’s that love them now,
They are part of the U.S., the Army, Navy, Air Force or
Marines, God’s Army
God forbid that something go wrong, they’re not at home,
you can’t protect them anymore.
That’s part of the world we live in today.
It’s not what it used to be, that’s why
they’re in God’s Army.
It’s scary now, you don’t know who you can trust or
Where you might be when something happens.
You lay awake at night saying your prayers
making sure that God understands.
This is your baby, your solder.
He was always into trouble, nothing serious,
just mischief.
You get a knock on the door, it’s late at night,
you dare answer. Because you know.
Then they tell you,
He’s with God’s Army now.
The pain is great, The Lord gives you strength.
And you’re proud to tell someone you know where he is,
He’s with God’s Army now.

Our hearts are with you, the family, friends and people that knew this man. We did not know him. I'm Palestine so I read the paper online. I now live in Raymondville. I just wanted to share our prayers with you. We lost our beloved solider Jan. of 2007. We understand what your going through. I'm very proud and happy that Mr. Pickard got a proper "homecoming". Not all soliders get the entourage that he did. Our solider did. So we pray for you and know we never forget our soliders. The soliders are our angels of war. Forever in their uniforms ready to protect what they love. God Bess Pickard family.

My heartfelt sympathy for the family and friends of Heath. I can't tell you how many tears I have shed for this young hero.
My son, Mario, is serving in Heath's Platoon and was with him during the attack. In the brief conversation I was able to have with him, he told me how brave the men were and the efforts of all to save each other.
May God Bless Heath and give strength to his wife, son, and family.
My family's prayers are with the Pickard family and Heath's comrades who remain in Iraq serving and protecting us.
God Bless,

My sympathies to you and your family on the loss of a dear Hero. Not only a hero to his family but a hero to me. I didnt not know Heath, but I felt like I did. I have nephews the same age and they are twins serving the USMC. They spent 8 months in different parts of Iraq, about to start a tour in afhganastan. I worry about all our soldiers over there. We lost a soldier and a friend but You all lost a husband-a father-a son-a brothera cousin a nephew, but gained one strong guardian angel that will forever be yours. God Bless you and this family..........

Our son served with SPC. Pickard, in Alaska and Iraq. He spoke very highly of him and was devastated by his passing. Our family is very proud to be associated with your family in the bond of the service of our sons. We are heartbroken at your loss. We pray for healing and some measure of peace for your family. Your son will be remembered for his willingness to serve his Country and his heroism. God Bless your son, your family, and all of our soldiers in harm’s way.
