Dear Ricky,
I am CPT Peterson. I was a young 2LT then and was in your BN when I was appointed the Summary Court Marshall Officer who took responsibility of ensuring all of your personal effects were inventoried and returned to the United States. I remember that day in Baghdad. It was an emotionally tough duty but I took great honor in doing it for you. I want you to know that I will never forget you and what sacrifice that you made for your Unit, your Family, your Friends, and your Country. Bless you and your Family this weekend and forever... AIRBORNE!

Ricky, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation. Like so many others you have volunteered to serve our country and protect the vary freedom America was built on. Please know Ricky that you like so many other fallen brother and sisters in arms that you will never be forgotten and you are heroes to us all. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also paid the ultimate price on 5/6/08 while on a routine patrol in Anbar Province as an MP. His unit was ambushed and came under small arms fire and he was taken from us. Not a day goes by that I do not think of him and all our brave heroes serving in our armed services. I stand tall and salute you Ricky and will forever honor the memory of you along with my nephew. To the Turner family words cannot express enough the pain both our families now must endure and my prayer is that the memory of your brave hero carry you through each day as you cope with this tragic loss. Since the loss of my nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know your loved one is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. From the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and may the memories of your Hero carry you through each day for he will never be forgotten!

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history…they pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To the family of Pfc. Ricky Turner, my son served with Ricky both at Ft. Bragg and his short time in Iraq. I got a phone call from my son, who is still in Iraq tonight. This was the first time he was able to speak of it.
He said Ricky was a great guy and a soldier that his family would be very proud of. It was a devastating loss to all those who knew him.
As a mother, my heart aches for you all. I'm so very sorry that your son paid the ultimate sacrifice protecting our country's freedom.
I know there are no words that will ease your shattered hearts, but please know that his service was appreciated by so many. Ricky is a hero in my book. He will never be forgotten. He is now in God's Army until you all can be united again. The thoughts and prayers of my family are with you. May God bless you, and keep you keep you and may you always feel your son close by.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love,
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I read of Rickys death today. Today would have been the 25th birthday of my sons best childhood friend, Nyle was also killed in Iraq. Nyles death was the hardest thing I have ever went through. These brave young soldiers touch so many lives, some times with out even knowing it. My son is deployed with the third brigade. I fear the class A's, but am so proud of our son. So many of our heros come from small town USA. The are good country boys raised to honor their coutry. Your sons name will ring forever in the halls of the true, the brave and the honorable. May you find peace in the fact that he was doing exactly what he wanted to do. Todays soldiers don't enter into service lightly.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Pfc. Ricky Turner our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Ricky. And to Ricky it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing terrorist forces in Iraq. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Ricky, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Ricky’s family and loved ones.

There is no greater than the sacrafice than that of ones own life. Ricky was looking for himself and a strong sense of pride. He found it when he joined the military. He had found something that not everyone in this country will ever understand. The commadre that is developed between individuals with the same purpose in life is greater than any other.Even though his flesh has passed, his warrior spirit still resides with his family, brothers and sisters in arms. He will always be looking down and watching over us and guiding us through lifes rough storms. He will be missed but not forgotten. Sappers First and Always!

James, As a Parent my heart aches for you at the loss of your child and as and Aunt I mourn the loss of a nephew...As an American I swell with pride for what Ricky did for His country... He is My HERO...know that He was loved and will be remembered...I know that you loved your Son and He loved You and there is nothing I can say as a Parent , Aunt or and American that will ease your pain...Draw strength from your family and friends...I pray God comforts You and keeps You close in this time of need and in the coming months and years ahead...Love Ya

Ricky Turner was a fine young man as well as a friend. If I could think of one word to describe him, the word would be "humble". I regret that I only knew Ricky for a very short time, but in that time I came to like him very much. Ricky made the ultimate sacrifice for his country and for his family and friends. May God be with the family in their time of loss. Sincerily SFC(R) Billy A. Taunton JROTC Instructor, Austin High School, Decatur, Alabama

I met Ricky the day my son, Michael was shipped out to Iraq. He had been and was a good friend to my son. My thoughts and prayers are with all you in your time of loss.
