Omar & Eliot I miss you all so much. There is not a day go back that you all are not on my mind. I know you all in a better place; however I am still having a hard time with both of you not being here but i have to be strong for everyone else and it hard for me. So much has happen in the year of 2009, Omar passing on 17th of January and your dad going to join you on 22 Oct 2009. Two of the most important people in my life is longer here; however I know GOD don't put no more on you than you can handle and I have to keep reminding myself. I know you both are together again. The chain maybe missing two links but the bond/chain is not broken. We will all be together one day and our chain will be complete. I love you both (Omar & Eliot) so this will not be a goodbye only a see you all later until we all meet again. I will do all that I can to take care of our family. I know you both are always with me in my heart and knowing that helps me to make it through each day. Your mother will be okay and I will always be there to support her when she lets me. Eliot and Omar RIP. Your sister-in-law and auntee. Love you both.

Omar, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation. Like so many others you have volunteered to serve our country and protect the vary freedom America was built on. Please know Omar that you like so many other fallen brother and sisters in arms that you will never be forgotten and you are heroes to us all. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also paid the ultimate price on 5/6/08 while on a routine patrol in Anbar Province as an MP. His unit was ambushed and came under small arms fire and he was taken from us. Not a day goes by that I do not think of him and all our brave heroes serving in our armed services. I stand tall and salute you Omar and will forever honor the memory of you along with my nephew. To the McKnight family words cannot express enough the pain both our families now must endure and my prayer is that the memory of your brave hero carry you through each day as you cope with this tragic loss. Since the loss of my nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know your loved one is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. From the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and may the memories of your Hero carry you through each day for he will never be forgotten!

I miss you so much Omar. I miss hanging out in school and after school. I miss seeing that beautiful smile and hearing your voice! You were such a true friend. My prom was magical because of you and the single red rose you gave me, "A beautiful rose for a beautiful young lady", you said. I miss your humor and words of such honor and kindness, but heaven truly needed a hero and thats why God chose you. I love you Omie, you are my hero.

My daughter, Lawren Pomacino, was a good friend of Omar's. They went to high school together and continued to stay in touch. She saw him last time he was home on leave, and she said he was so happy. I only met him once, but he was more of a man at the age of 22 than most men ever become in an entire lifetime. I wanted you to know that my heart aches for your family and friends, ans so does my daughters. I have cried, as has she. Our prayers are with you all.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love,
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

First I would like to send my deepest condolences to Omar's family. I met Omar a while back when we were deploying to Qatar. He was one of the sweetest guys I ever met. While we were deployed together we developed a good friendship. He always came to me asking for advice or just wanting to talk. Even when we returned to Macdill, we still had our talks. I remember he was always dancing. No matter where we were...if he heard music he would dance. We use to always dance to the "cupid shuffle"...that was our song. I know that Omar is in a better place now. I will always think of him and how he made the world a better place. We miss you Omar!!!

To the family of Senior Airman Omar J. McKnight: I may have not known him well but i was stationed with him. I was the dormitory manager for his residence. It always hurts when we lose a fellow Airmen. He will be missed and I wish his family the best in a bad situation.

January 24, 2009

Like a few of the others on this sight I worked with Omar at Macdill and knew him very well. Like Cintron, Omar was one of my first troops as I graduated ALS and I was his first supervisor. He was such a loving caring wonderful person and if you have read any sight with any posts from anyone who knew him you will find everyone says the same things and never a bad word to be spoken of him. He was full of life and just a plain joy to be around. I was sad the day I got a different job and he was no longer going to be my troop and to anyone in the military you know those kind of troops are hard to come by. As I am sitting here writing this I am remembering the many times I have talked to Omar and I can not keep the tears from falling down my cheeks. What happened is sad and it happened to a great person. The only hope I have is Omar has found his peace and did not suffer. He had such a promising life ahead of him and it saddens me that those promises are now a distant memory. To all of you who knew him and are missing him know you are not alone. Saturday 19 January we all lost a friend and counterpart. Omar you are and will continue to be missed!!

Daniel Cintron

January 22, 2009

First off I would like to say good morning to all. I would like to welcome family, friends, and guests for coming out today to celebrate and remember the life of a great fallen hero and my brother SrA Omar J. McKnight. SrA McKnight was a very quiet person but always had a smile on his face and whenever you needed something he was the first to act and always put others before him. I remember times when i would see him and he would be so quiet you wouldn't even know that he was there. The day I met Omar was September 1st 2007 our day to leave MacDill to go on deployment to Al Udeid Air base, Qatar for what would be 194 days of togetherness and a friendship that I would never forget. I was assigned as McKnight’s supervisor while deployed and one of the first things i did with my troops was introduced myself and my expectations. My troops were Sra Foster, Sra McKnight and A1C Coon. Now what made this special was that they were my first set of troops, as I just put on staff. Now my first impression of McKnight was this kid is going to be very easy to supervise he is very polite, very proper, and always said "yes sir, "yes ma'am" to anyone regardless of their rank. Sometimes I had to remind Omar "hey I’m off duty stop calling me sir" and he'll reply with "sorry sir" and we would laugh and joke. One of Omar's favorite things to do was play video games, every time I would see him off duty he would be carrying his little book bag with his Xbox360 and going to the dayroom and playing for hours. Another day that sticks out to me is his 21st birthday. Everyone who has been deployed knows that no one wants to celebrate their 21st in the Desert. Omar didn't care he was going to make the best of it. I worked that day and Omar was off. After work a whole bunch of us went to the Bra, a place to hangout and do what cops do best and drink a couple of beers. Well here comes Omar walking with a vanilla ice cream cake in his hands from Baskins Robbins and i asked him "what's that for " he said it’s my 21st birthday today SSgt Cintron, I said "man u should have told us and we would have bought it for u" you shouldn't have to buy your own cake, who does that " of course Omar did" and we laughed and sang him happy birthday to him and he was so happy and yeah we also got him his favorite shot Patron Man that guy loves patron(Draw it out). Well we completed 194 days in QATAR and time to come home, everyone was happy especially Omar he can see his family and friends once again. Omar went back to Louisiana. He called me while he was there and he said he was having a blast but was ready to come back to MacDill. I can go on for hours talking about such a wonderful person like i McKnight. I will remember the last day I saw Omar it was the day he was leaving for training and then deployment to Balad, Iraq I told him hey, you be safe over there and watch your back and if you need to talk to anyone my phone is on 24/7 and we will talk...Why didn't you ever call me Omar....WHY? I also told him I won’t see you when you get back because I’m leaving for Kunsan in April, but I'll be home in August for Midtour so we gotta hang out and he said for sure SSgt Cintron and I said good cause we got some Patron to drink (Man he loved his Patron) and he started to laugh and I gave him a hug and didn't think for one second that would be the last time I would see Omar. Well in closing I would like to leave you with a saying from the late Dr. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR AND IT STATES: In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends. Omar I know your listening bro be good and well miss you so much and you will always be in our thoughts and prayers. You can now rest knowing that you have completed your job and touched everyone that has known you. You are in a better place and god will take care of you now

He was one of the sweetest, most respectful men that I've ever met. At first he was quite and reserved, then finally i got to see his goofy, funny, outgoing side. He helped me through some tough times, and I cant thank him enough. Our talks and his advice helped me make decisions that bettered my life. He was an amazing person with a big heart and will never be forgotten. He is at peace now at home, an angel watching over us. I miss you Omie...Thank you for being a good friend. Mahal Kita!

Father we entrust our brother Omar to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Omar in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathies.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Sr. Airman Omar J. McKnight our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Omar. And to Omar it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while serving in the U.S. Air Force. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Omar, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Omar’s family and loved ones.
