Mikey,
I drive by those beautiful flags -your Eagle Scout project-at least 5 days per week. To the right is your home. A smile comes over me knowing you are a hero and an achiever at such a young age.
How blessed your family, friends, and fellow soldiers have been to have had you in their lives. And those kids you gave to during a time of war. Never selfish, and forever remembered with love.

”Honor and Remember” - “Project Compassion” We love our Soldiers! We love our country and we cannot express enough love and compassion to the families of our fallen heroes. War does not discriminate – It breaks our hearts to see the faces of the fallen. We want to give this gift to the hero’s Mother, Father and/or spouse. We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization! Over 1,800 portraits have been completed and shipped to the parents and or spouse - at no cost as this is a gift from one American to another!
This is a gift! We have some wonderful sponsors who help with the costs, and only want you know that we care.
Contact us directly at [email protected] or go to www.heropaintings.com . If you have already had a portrait completed, we pray that you are enjoying the portrait and God Bless You.
Sincerely and Respectfully,
Kenna

To the family of Michael we want to let you know that Freedom Quilts is sending our deepest sympathy along with a quilt to honor your son. I know words can never explain the pain you are going through right now and none of us can see we really know what that pain feels like unless we walk your shoes. Freedom comes with a price we know that at least some of us do and those that do are grateful for the heroes that come forward to protect us all. Your son was a hero a man of courage. He lived by principles that brought him to protecting his family and country. Not all will do what your son did not all have the courage to defend their country. What makes this country so great is men like your son. You son will always live on in your hearts and in the hearts of Americans. My name is Betty Nielsen the founder of Freedom Quilts and I am honor to make sure you receive a quilt to honor your son. My email if you wish to email is [email protected] and my website is www.freedomquilts.net Know you will be in our prayers and that your son sacrifice will always be remembered.

Mikey,
I still can't believe you're gone... It seems like only yesterday we were standing in front of Mt. Rushmore, wondering where our lives were going to go from there... You lived by the principles set forth by your family, your boy scout troop, your squad, your community, your god, and your country. Your life may have been short, but nobody can say that it wasn't worthwhile. You touched the lives of all that you came into contact with, especially the Iraqi children that you thought so much of. You will not be forgotten, and your sacrifice was not in vain. Thanks Mikey, say hi to the big guy for me.

Michael, I just wanted to say thank you for your brave and honorable service to a grateful nation, a nation in mourning for our fallen hero’s. You like so many other soldiers chose to serve our nation when needed most and with your life you protected the very core of what America stands for. My nephew PFC Aaron J. Ward also made that sacrifice on 5/6/2008 when he was killed in action in Iraq. As I mourn for my nephew I mourn for you and so many other brave soldiers and please know that you all will forever be in my thoughts and prayers, we as a nation will never forget you. I stand tall and salute you Michael and from the bottom of my heart I thank you for the nights we at home could sleep without fear and know that we are safe. To the Mayne family, words cannot express the pain we now share, but our families will forever have a bond and we will be thinking of Michael and your family and will keep you in our thoughts & prayers. Since the loss of my nephew I have written on every single legacy page of every fallen soldier and included a photo of my nephew. I encourage you to do the same to Aaron's page. I have done this to honor my nephew but to let you know your loved one is not alone and my nephew is with him and they are now in God's gracious hands waiting for us to join them one day. From the bottom of my heart please except my sincere condolences and may the memories of your Hero carry you through each day for he will never be forgotten!

To the Mayne family,
I know there are no words to say, except how sorry I am for your loss. May you hold Michaels' memory in your heart and please remember he shall never be forgotten.
...For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.
But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

Final Roll Call
Did you hear the sad news today?
A brave American Soldier, Cpl. Michael L. Mayne has passed away.
Called by the Supreme Commander over all.
Today he has made his final roll call.
Come Brothers-In-Arms; let us reverently bow and pray
For our valiant comrade, who has fallen this day.
We’ll drape his casket with a banner of beautiful hues,
Those glorious American colors: red, white and blue.
That star spangled banner he gallantly fought to defend,
Unyielding and undaunted, he fought to win.
He fought bravely and he fought his very best.
Now the Supreme Commander grants him, “eternal rest”.
With dignity and honor, we’ll commit his body to the ground,
The bugler will sound “Taps” and we’ll fire the volley rounds.
The final military honors we’ll render somberly and ever so sadly;
“Old Glory” we’ll solemnly precisely fold and reverently give to his family.
Each Memorial Day we will recall Michael’s name,
And attest that his supreme sacrifice was not in vain;
For this lasting legacy he gave to all generations;
“It’s honorable to respect our flag and to defend our great nation.”
So close ranks fellow warriors, for our ranks are thinning.
We must keep on fighting and keep on winning.
With pride and honor we’ll march and stand tall,
And we’ll proudly - proudly - salute “Old Glory”
‘til we join Wil at our final roll call.
Farewell Cpl. Michael L. Mayne - Be At Ease; Rest In Peace
For the Commander, Carroll R. Michaud
February 27, 2009
The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Cpl. Michael L. Mayne our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Michael. And to Michael it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Iraq. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Michael, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Michael’s family and loved ones.
