Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let you and your family and friends know that we have made a small donation to (TAPS) Tragedy Assistance Program For Survivors in the name of Juan Miguel Ridout US Air Force Staff Sergeant.
We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals across the American youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

I knew you many years ago, and thought you were one of the sweetest, most loyal guys I had ever met. I do not remember why we ever lost touch, but today your name popped in my head as it has many times over the years. Today I just happened to be playing on my computer and looked you up. This is what I found. :o( My heart breaks for your family and friends. As an EOD wife I have seen so much loss and tragedy, and I know that this pain never goes away for your loved ones. Even though its been nearly 15 years since I knew you, this still brings tears to my eyes and a heaviness to my heart. RIP Juan

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

I met Juan in ’96 at the PJ try out. We had both just finished basic training and spent our roughly four months together at the PJ indoctrination course. We spent every weekend together going to San Antonio, to the mall and movies. We ate every meal together after our long tiring days, and rode our bikes around the base talking about what an exciting time we would have in the future.
Whenever I didn’t feel like I could make it another day, Juan was the one listening to my complaint. Whenever I needed a laugh Juan was the one to make me laugh. Whenever I needed to think about other things than water confidence training, it was Juan that I talked to. We talked about our families, our friends, and our futures.
The things I remember most about Juan were things I didn’t notice when I knew him, but noticed once we were apart. I remember that he always listened to my worries and complaints about not making it through this first phase of training, but he never complained. I remember that he always hand wrote letters to his family and friends at home (it seemed like he did that most evenings). I remember that even after I failed out of the program, he was looking for me that night to have dinner and talk. I remember I was too ashamed of being weak that I hid that evening and didn’t see him. The next day he came to me, not upset that I didn’t have what it took, but that I didn’t confide in him. I regretted that mistake. It did not matter to Juan that I didn’t make it, we were friends and he wanted to help me. Even after we parted ways, Juan would ride his bike over from another base to visit me, telling me I was lucky because the new place was not as fun (always trying to make me feel better). When Juan left Texas to go through the rest of the PJ pipeline he would always write me letters and send pictures, telling me about training and what he was up to. He always was humble, never looking for recognition or glory and was always trying to make me feel better about where I was going.
I know as time moves on, we lose touch and our lives grow busy and change, but I wanted you to know what Juan meant to me. He was a true friend, a humble man, and a hero from the first day I met him. I will always remember with pride, joy, and honor that I knew Juan Ridout.

To the family and friends
I have only just begun this journey and may not have known your loved one personally.
I extend to you my deepest condolences. No words will ever express the grief those close to this lost treasure are feeling. I can only say that I can share this grief as I too lost a loved one July 8, 2006. I will continue to pray for the safety of our soldiers and especially the family and friends of our lost hero’s. I only hope the memories will carry us through. I will continue pray that you also will believe and know that our heavenly father will not give us more than we can handle.
As always I read (and cry) through the memorials of our lost hero’s, So many people have already expressed the things I would also say. I am amazed and take comfort that so many people care. I can only thank you for the sacrifice you and especially Juan have made to protect our country. As others have said “I am only an email away.” I would be honored if you so choose to share about this fine soldier.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

I was Juan's teammate and friend. We were stationed together before the accident. I went down to replace him. It was a horrible day when we were brought in to hear the tragic event. When Juan passed he took a little piece of me with him. He is a great man and will always be remembered and respected. Miss ya buddy! TC

I knew Juan in highschool and he was always a kind and caring person. He liked everyone, never judged a person by the cover. He was truly a genuine person. He was funny all the time and enjoyed life so much. There is an empty spot in this world without him in it. I only recently found out of his passing and am deeply saddened. I will always remember Juan with fond memories. He is a true hero and will never be forgotten, never.

As the WA State Coordinator for the Home of the Brave Quilt Project, I would like to offer condolences to Sgt Ridout‘s family on the loss of this fine young man. The goal of this national project is to make a memorial quilt for the family of each fallen hero; our group’s goal is to make a quilt for each lost service person who lists a WA state town as their hometown. We would be honored to make such a quilt for Juan's family. We are an all-volunteer group and we do this free of charge.
