Remembering SGT. Winters today and always.

i knew Jeannette real well, she was a friend as well as a fellow flyer. we would talk nearly every day in Jbad if she wasnt flying. i became friends with all the Jarheads there, it was easy to do because i was in the Corps for 11 yrs before going into the Air Force, so we had a lot in common. she had a great sense of humor and knew how to make you smile. i was flying the night of the crash and flew over the site, it gave me a sick feeling for i knew no one made it out. it is bad when you lose a friend but losing her was a lot worse in that way. she was a blessing to the Corps, she will be cherished by many. God bless you my sweet friend, i still miss you.

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Jeannette L. Winters US Marine Sergeant.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

I served with your brother, and I'll never forget the moment this news was brought to him. He too, being a Marine, knew what the price could be for our service, but he took the news well.
I never got to meet you personally (unless through passing) but I will say this, thank you for your service, may blessings come to your family and watch over your brother Matt.

To the family and friends of Sgt. Jeannette L. Winters:
It has truly been my honor to sign Jeannette's guest book these past few years. Unfortunately, due to complications from my Multiple Sclerosis, this may be the last message I'm able to write. Please forgive me and know that Jeannette will always be remembered in my home.
With love and respect ~ Peggy

I heard of Sgt Winters' sacrifice today. I'm french and I'm a muslim so some people could not understand what I decided to write a message here. It's because it is only right to show her family and friends all the gratitude and all the respect I feel when I think about her.
All over the world, we know that if the Marines are still giving their lifes in Afghanistan, it is, above all, for America, but it is also for us all. We know that if they die, in honors, it is to make the world a better place and to prevent terrorism.
If we're not afraid to go outside, go to school, take the bus, the train or the airplain ; if we're not afraid to live and to feel love and joy in our two wounderful countries, it is because of Sgt Winters and because of all the other people who fought for our freedom.
As long as we still feel love and joy and as long as we live in a normal healthy way, we will always honour their memory.
Even if I didn't know her, I love her for ever because of what she did for me and I will never forget her. I'll always pray for her and for her family and friends.
May God bless her and her family. May he bless America, the country I love, heart and soul. May he bring peace to all men and women of good will.
Sgt Winters, from the bottom of my heart, thank you...
PS : Sorry for my English.

Prayer Shawls 4 Fallen Soldiers ([email protected]) is an organization with groups throughout the country who strive to send handmade prayer shawls and/ or lap robes to families who have lost a loved one in service to our country. Members of Trindle Spring Lutheran Church in Mechanicsburg, PA would like to honor your daughter’s sacrifice and memory by sending our prayers and comfort through a shawl which we will mail to you. If you are interested, please contact me at [email protected] with the names and addresses and what they would like to receive. We will send them as soon as possible. Also, if you know of any other families who are grieving the loss of a loved one who died serving our country, please pass along my e-mail address, as our organization can no longer get family contacts through the military. May God bless you and comfort you in the days ahead. Sincerely, Lynne

I remember the girl who scooped me up as a hoochmate during field training. She made me feel special. She was the one I could go to get all the supplies I needed for my platoon - ASCR. She will always live in my memories of MWCS-28. I will miss you forever, Winters. You were my friend and sister. May we meet again in the next life...

To the Marine that trained me, took care of me, and disciplined me when rarely neccessary, there isnt a day that goes by that her name and memories arent quickly remembered and talked about with honor and enthusiasm. I can still remember the night of September 19, 2001 when she stayed up with me and my team all night teaching us the things we would need to know to come back from Afghanistan alive and successful. With her loss Heaven gained an angel and the world lost a jewel!

While I did not personally know Sgt. Winters, she fought and died for ALL of us who are both women and Americans. She is a HERO! As the days and weeks have passed, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and a GRATEFUL nation. I am so VERY SORRY for your loss.

Dear Family of Sgt. Jeannette L. Winters,
We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. We hope this will bring pride and comfort to you.
We at Gethsemane Church believe that there is purpose to life. We send this letter with our deepest appreciation for the greatest of sacrifices, you and your loved one have given to this country. We know it is not enough, but please allow us to assure you that your loved one is not forgotten.
Very Sincerely
Frank G. Noyes

I served with Winters at Marine Air Station Marimar, San Diego,Ca. For those of you who did not get the pleasure of meeting a very nice person, missed out on a beautiful smile on daily basis. Her smile is what I remember most.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

I remember in 1991 that America was on their knees in prayer in behalf of the American soldier until their soldier came home. Some of us are still waiting to see our soldier come home. We can only go to them now and one day we will. Sgt. Winter's, You will never be just another name on the wall. God Bless America.
